Become comfortable with daily conversational Japanese. I also offer music lesson in Japanese.

About Asuka
I started my musical training as a pianist at YAMAHA institute at age 4 in Japan. I was selected to enter perfect pitch class. It was designated for students who have perfect pitch and potentials to be professional musicians.

I enjoyed playing piano and electric piano and won the 1st prize at Kitakantou Electric Piano Competition hosted by YAMAHA institute. Because of the intensive training, I have been accompanying my students' recitals and performance exams.

As much as I enjoyed playing piano, I discovered that I also love singing, so I started to take singing lessons and majored in vocal performance during my college days.

Since I have graduated, I have been performing opera professionally. My career highlights include roles as Cio-cio san(Madame Butterfly) with Snob Opera, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Fairy(Falstaff) with Sir B
ryn Terfel with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England, Dorinda(Orlando) with Cantanti Project, Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) with Opera Manhattan Studio, Frasquita (Carmen) with One World Symphony, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) and Clorinda (La Cenerentola) with Capitol Heights Opera, Alice (Le comte Ory) with West Side Opera Society, Adele (Die Fledermaus), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), and Myrrhine (Lysistrata) with Opera Avanti, Gilda (Rigoletto) with Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, and The First Spirit (Die Zauberflöte) with the Opera Company of Brooklyn.

My international credits include performances under the direction of Conductor Laurent Pillot at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Liverpool, England;the Académie Internationale d'Eté de Nice, France; the Daniel Ferro Vocal Program in Chianti,Italy; the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel where I was selected to sing for the Japanese Ambassador.

I made appearances as a soloist at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Town Hall, and MOMA museum in New York City and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

As a versatile singer, I was presented as an aspiring opera singer on the website of Maybelline New York. Her voice was featured in short films for the Japanese technology company NEC. I appeared as a soprano soloist for the opera, Jazz and theater collaboration of "TAKE ABITE" by David Antonio Cruz. I also sings Broadway songs and continues her musical theater studies. She is an active recitalist and also performs Oratorio works.

I was also a finalist at the Opera Idol Competition at Lincoln Center in New York City, The Hariclea Darclée Voice Competition in Romania and the Mario Lanza and Elaine Malbin Vocal Competition in New York City. Ms. Uchida was selected as a vocal scholarship recipient at Savannah music festival.

Her upcoming engagements in 2019 include performing concerts with Philharmonie Teplice, Neubrandenburg, Germany, the title role of Lucia di Lammermoore and a lieder recital with Opera After Hours, New York. Ms. Uchida gave a recital hosted by Russian Cultural Center in Kiev 2019. Asuka is invited to give a recital at Festival dell’arte in Wojanow, Poland in August 2019.

Besides being an opera singer, I have been teaching piano and voice for 11 years. I would like to share my skills and experience with you. Since I perform often, I can coach you how to perform on stage in addition to building solid technique and languages. Also, I have taught various kinds of music, such as Rock, Broadway musicals, Pop music, so we can work on all kind of music.

I look forward to teaching you soon!

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to improve their skills and start to enjoy music more as we work together.
I believe that learning music is fun and enjoyable. However you also need to be serious and focused.
I can demonstrate various and specific techniques, phrasing, and interpretation and will always coach on how to develop your skills. However, I feel it is important for students to think critically on their own and take the first try at solving a problem themselves. I cannot emphasize enough that primarily it is you who find the ways to improve. Leaning music is a collaboration between teachers and students. I hope that through my lessons, students will become more self-sufficient and confident as musicians.
Let me help you become a better musician.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano (Clavinova), music stand, and desk.

*** Travel Equipment ***

On behalf of my son who is 15. Before finding Asuka, Lukas had taken voice lessons from several very good teachers (between breaks we would experiment with teachers).
Now with Asuka he feels most comfortable and feels he learns more per lesson with Asuka. More progress with all aspects of voice. She helps prepare for auditions with Broadway vocals and advance on the more serious and challenging Opera selections.
So the actual lessons are great and Asuka is also a charm; engaging and personable. As the parent I very much like she remains a professional singer as her career.
So we are staying with Asuka through the breaks and may even extend into piano lessons as well.
I would recommend Asuka without hesitation.

I am a native speaker and former school teacher in Japan. Learning is fun-that's my motto. When you achieve your goals, you enjoy a feeling of accomplishment, right? I want to help you to achieve your goals. My lesson starts from finding what students really need to learn. Understanding student is the key to success. I am very strong in teaching proper Japanese, including reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji with fun way. Also, casual, informal, practical Japanese too.

About Jinko
Hello! My name is Jinko and I love teaching! It's a joy for me to see people's improvement and success. I was born and raised in Tochigi, Japan.

I have been teaching Japanese since I moved to America in 2001. Currently, I teach Japanese at community college and home. Also, I teach at Saturday school(HOSHUKO) in Bethesda, MD, where students can learn many subjects in Japanese. At the same time, I am raising 3 children as bilingual.

I earned B.A. and certified in Japan as a teacher. 11 years of experience as a public school teacher gave me a joy to see children's success and achievement. Learning is fun! Not only children, but adults too, can have fun to learn something new. My role is to help and support them to achieve their goal.

Because I use both languages, I can teach efficiently, explain details, and provide
some useful tips. I am very good at finding what kind of learning style they prefer and make you feel comfortable while you learn. Also, I believe it is one of my talents to find out what each student needs to practice and study in order to improve their skills. Which means I plan my lessons based on your needs so you can learn efficiently. I am very confident that I can provide high quality lessons and make you satisfied. My experience and constant effort to improve my teaching skill is the benefit for you.

Please read about my policy before you sign up with me. This is very important for both you and me.

【Cancellation, reschedule and late policy】
I respect your time very much. Thus, I expect you to respect mine too. Lesson cancellations and rescheduling must be done 24 hours in advance before the scheduled lesson. If you do not reach me within the 24 hour period, you will be charged for the lesson. Please remember that you must contact me 24 hours in advance or you will be charged for the lesson. No matter what the reason is.

If you can't make your scheduled lesson for more than two weeks consecutively (for vacation, camp, and so on) I need to give your lesson time to another student. My schedule is very tight since I work with many students. Which means that I can't afford to hold a time slot with a student who can't consistently show up. If you would like to start lessons with me again, please contact me with your preferred time slot from my availability.

If you will be late for your lesson, please contact me by text or email before your lesson starts. I will wait until you log in, but I can't extend your lesson time. No refund will be given for the time you missed. I need to end your lesson at the scheduled time. Please remember that you have agreed to my policy, if you signed up for lessons with me, Also, please read The 24 Hour Golden Rule by takelessons.com...

Thank you for today's class. In particular, your definitive explanation of the English interpretation of "masu-form"/ "te imasu" verbs. Going forward this was a turning point in my Japanese language study.

Having attended American school on the weekdays and a total-immersion Japanese school on the weekends (and coming home to parents who only spoke Japanese), I was lucky enough to grow up completely bi-lingual. With over a decade of experience teaching in private and classroom settings, I make my lessons fun, high-energy, and tailor-made to each individual. Please feel free to send me a message, and let's learn some Japanese! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

About Laura
Hello! I am a NYC-based singer, pianist, actress, and animal-lover. Born and raised in Los Angeles, my artistic career began as a classical pianist, performing in venues across California, Japan, and Austria from a very young age. As a singer, I performed around the world with the Broadway tour of Avenue Q, and I've been seen in dozens of musical theatre and Shakespeare productions throughout the U.S. and even in Russia!

By combining my two passions of singing and playing piano, I served as Artist-in-Residence for California Musical Theatre Company, Sacramento Theatre Company, and the cell theatre in NY.

I've been teaching in NYC for over a decade, and my passion is to inspire the next generation of creative people of all ages.

When it comes to music, there is a quote that I love: "Every expert was once a beginner." This quote reflect
s my philosophy on pursuing the arts: that it's never too late to start and that no matter where you are in your musical journey, practice is the key to success. Mastering a skill requires discipline and dedication, and my goal is to help you find joy and inspiration along the way.

My lessons focus on building a strong foundation of technique, which gives you the freedom to explore your creativity and musicality; it is very important for me that my students strive not only for technical precision but also for musical artistry. Together, we will set a practice schedule that you can adhere to regularly, and I'll make sure to send you away with specific instructions each week on how to practice effectively.

With my fun, high-energy approach to teaching, you are guaranteed to enjoy the journey as you take significant steps toward becoming an expert. I'm looking forward to meeting you and getting started soon!

I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.

Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.

Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands.

My teaching style is flexible and I want to find learning methods that work best for you. Do you learn more when you talk a lot? Let's do a conversation class! Do you learn by memorizing rules? Let's dive into the mechanics of Japanese! I believe that the best way to learn a language is by being immersed in its culture and finding books, movies or music that will make you want to understand more about Japan. I promise to keep the lessons fun and fascinating!

About Alisa
Translation and language teaching has always been a strong interest of mine. Teaching a difficult language like Japanese and motivating students to keep up with learning can be a challenge, but one that I find rewarding and worthwhile. In terms of tutoring experience, I was a tutor and class assistant for the Oberlin College Japanese department during my undergraduate program and have continued private Japanese tutoring since graduating. I am a professional writer and translator in English and Japanese, with bylines in The Japan Times and other media outlets. An original article of mine published in The Japan Times is currently used for the Kansai Gaidai University entrance exam. I recently moved to New York City in order to pursue a master's degree at New York University in Media, Culture and Communication.

I grew up in Tokyo, Japan wit
h a Japanese father and an American mother, so I was raised to be completely bilingual in Japanese and English. I do Japanese copywriting and translation professionally, as well as quality checking translated scripts for film directors and screenwriters.

I’m very good at adapting to different learning styles and have a knack for eliciting the best out of my students through motivation and positive reinforcement.

Throughout university, and after, I mentored many students with great results. In addition to academics I helped them get the most out of their college experience. Everyone I helped benefited greatly, and one runs a very successful consulting business.

I recently returned from spending 2 years in Japan. My current level is JLPT N4.

What I can offer with my Japanese lessons is time spent that is unlike the traditional Japanese learning classroom. With me, there will be less of a strict schedule to follow and more flexibility to fit your needs. You will have the chance to practice and learn with someone who has the experience of learning Japanese from scratch and who understands the needs of those beginning the Japanese journey, rather than someone who has spoke it their whole life. These lessons will help build the foundation for learning Japanese, which you can use to grow and expand your learning in the future.

About Jason
こんにちは!My name is Jason Ogbue. I’m starting takelessons to help students find a place where they can begin their Japanese learning, in case they don’t know where to start. I’ve been studying Japanese for 2 years with a combination of self-teaching and college classes. I was a 5th year ALT on the JET Programme. (Ask me how I transferred from Nagasaki to Tokyo!) I taught high school, middle school, and special education English classes. Since then, I've been teaching adults and children here in New York City. As a native English speaker who has studied Japanese, I know the most effective methods to learn it.

I love teaching Japanese and English! They're both so much fun to learn. I can teach you what you need to know to visit Japan, sing karaoke, or become a translator. Anything for my amazing students.

About Sara
I am here to help you meet and set goals with your Japanese and English while encouraging and challenging you to reach new heights as a student and as the wonderful, beautiful individual you are. I will teach with as much enthusiasm as you study. 10 hours of classes a week? No problem! 3-hour sessions? Time to pack some cookies! Haha, you probably think I'm kidding. I'm not. :)
