Learn Japanese in the City of Angels

By Aya O. – Los Angeles Japanese Teacher

Konnichiwa, my name is Aya O. and I teach Japanese lessons in Los Angeles. I am originally from Kyoto, and I also lived in Tokyo for 10 years. When I teach my students Japanese, I like to emphasize grammar and pronunciation, but I also love to introduce my students to Japanese culture. It’s an absolute pleasure to teach my students my native language.

Learning a foreign language is a wonderful life experience. When you travel and are able to converse in the native language, it’s not only impressive to the locals, but it also makes for a more rich and meaningful journey. English is my second language, so I understand the challenges of learning a foreign language, and I think this helps me relate to my students. Once I learned to speak English, my world changed; I had a new appreciation for different cultures, and I was able to make friends from all over the world. I would love for you to have this same life-changing experience, and I’m here to support you in your language-learning endeavors.

Los Angeles is a wonderful place to start your Japanese journey. LA is a big place with lots of Japanese-speaking people, so there are a lot of great opportunities to practice speaking Japanese and experience the Japanese culture. There are several Japanese grocery stores like Mitsuwa, Nijiya and Marukai. These stores have Japanese-imported foods as well as your daily necessities, but they’re also great places to find out about local events. Be sure to check the bulletin boards for up-to-date information about Japanese cultural centers, festivals, and upcoming events.

Little Tokyo in downtown LA, is a great place for anyone taking Japanese lessons. There are Japanese markets, restaurants, stores, and events. Plus, one of the best and most fun ways to learn Japanese is through karaoke. If you haven’t experienced real Japanese karaoke, you’re in for an unforgettable experience and a wonderful learning opportunity. Don’t be shy; if you can’t sing or are insecure about your pronunciation, Japanese karaoke venues have private rooms for small groups. This is a great way to practice your Japanese and learn new words. There are some great karaoke places in Little Tokyo, but if you want to get outside of the city, check out Max Karaoke Studio in Torrance.

I’m very excited for you to take Japanese lessons in Los Angeles, because it’s such a wonderful place to learn the language and experience the culture. Good luck, study hard, and have fun!

Learning Japanese? As being a composer for short Anime films and having a Japanese background, I have worked with Japanese companies for many years and trained employees of different companies in not only speaking Japanese but also the business culture. But that is not all my classes are for everybody for those planning a trip to Japan. What's special of my classes is that we learn to have a conversation for different situations every week. You will start talking after your first class! CHECK OUT MY VIDEOS HERE ON TL FOR JAPANESE TIPS!

About Rosita
I have been singing and studying voice for over 23 years since I was a child! I hold a Bachelors from Musicians Institute and other accomplished degrees from American Musical Dramatic Academy to conclude my quest for vocal excellence and the ability to sing in multiple languages ( English, Spanish, Japanese and Italian) I have been lucky enough to study with some of the top teachers in the country and now I bring the experience I have gained directly to you!

I am proud to share my student's vast array of musical successes. From being cast on short anime films and musicals to being accepted into prestigious performing arts academies to conquering the Karaoke scene. My passion for multiple languages and love of music is the desire driving me to share the gifts for teaching young children to open the door to their own musical abilities an
d hidden artistic desires. I am currently writing a musical which will be debuting in 2020. I'm currently the vocal coach/Trainer and choir director at Iglesia Elim Central.

I will make sure my students have fun and help them get in the right track to their musical goals.

Also, I constantly upload videos on Singing, The Spanish Language, and Japanese! So keep Checking in! It ranges on tips and answering the most common questions on those particular subjects!

Also There are discounted rates for worship teams and church choirs. For more information please contact me through the "Ask a Question feature"

*** Lesson Details ***
I do my absolute best to create a positive atmosphere for my students. Even when the students feel frustrated or stressed, it is important to inspire them and give them the fuel that they need. Though I am strict when it comes to homework and their about their studies. Every lesson at the beginning I will review what we learned previously and test them.
then begin with proper breathing technique exercises, the cornerstone of all vocals. We move on to vocal exercises to condition the voice. Then we work on the songs that you are eager to sing!

I will use a piano when doing vocal warm ups and conditioning exercises. Students that play other instruments and accompany themselves when performing (such as a guitar) are encouraged to bring that instrument to their lessons. My goal is for them to gain the knowledge that they need to help reach their artistic goals.
With all my lessons every student will be taught a basic run down of Music Theory. My students will always progress in what they do. They will have the discipline that they need and yet have fun and be filled with inspiration. Which is the most important thing, to be Inspired to do better.

*** Studio Equipment ***
iMac, condensing mic...performing mic, keyboard, mixer...living room of apartment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do have a portable keyboard. Though I do expect the student to have their own recording device and karaoke tracks. At Home I do have a studio, and if the students has an iPod or an Mp3 player I can attach it to a device where all of us can hear the tracks. I do have a recording studio as well.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Musical Theatre, and Pop rock genres. When I teach my students I always have them learn a song of another language whether it's Spanish or Japanese. It helps with diction when they learn a song outside the English Language. Also, It helps them to learn another Language at the same time. Also, I give them a little anatomy class when they are learning how to sing. I give them a model of the Vocal Cords and different areas of the Larynx and which part works for the chest voice and the head voice.

I'm a Nurse Practitioner and I happened to find about Rosita through a friend. I told her about why I wanted to learn Spanish and apparently she was developing a course for that. What struck me the most is that she listens to her student's needs. She already had an understanding how different nurses work and how crazy it could be. She really narrowed down for those that do not want to be fluent but at be able to communicate with our patients and I appreciated that. I wasn't looking to take High School Spanish again and she didn't. Although we did have to go over some grammar but she explained how it can be used in my line of work. For those that are looking to be conversational in Spanish in her course Beginning Spanish for Medical Professionals I really recommend it my colleagues out there!

今日は and welcome to learning Japanese, I have a bachelor's degree in Japanese language and culture from the Ohio State University, and I have tutored Japanese before and it really isn't as intimidating as it looks. I've learned through many ways and I have many many resources that I will gladly share with you so you can learn on your own, whether you're a beginner or advanced, I can direct you to how to become very fluent with all my knowledge and resources combined. Also as a bonus I will teach you some kanji calligraphy if interested as well.

About Moataz
I am a Freelance Graphic Designer living in Powell, Ohio. I love learning and teaching, like a lot. I teach languages, Lettering, branding, and the basics of Graphic design as well as the adobe programs that bring it to life.

My promise to you is that I will teach you everything I know in the time I'm given and provide you with all sorts of outside resources to get you on your way to fluency and proficiency.

I'll make sure to do my absolute best to get you speaking a new language from day one, learning a Design program immediately, or teaching you how to letter with the rules they don't teach you in school. And best of all, I'll even show you how to actually make money with all of these.

I have a very unique journey into learning where I experienced many places and got a fresh and different understanding to the many subjects th
at I teach. For example my knowledge of multiple languages and travel to different countries gave me an added knowledge of linguistics that I experienced first hand and confirmed in books, so now I know how languages work, and can relate a concept from one language to another even if the languages seem completely different.

My Design work has been very general so I've done a lot of different things before I specialized in hand lettering, so I've done it all from advertisements on billboards to website design and development, to copywriting, to branding from start to finish for companies big and small.

My love for lettering and Calligraphy emerged when I started getting more Logos for client work and my exploration of type wasn't the best answer most of the time so I would letter everything myself, and the rest is history.

I am really passionate about learning and even more passionate about sharing what I've learned. I am efficient, I know what works for different people since I taught in classrooms and tutored way before I knew about Takelessons, and I'm most proud of being praised as a very genuine person. A very common compliment I get is that I sincerely want my students to do well. And it makes me really happy every time someone says it, and I hope that one day you see that and tell me the same thing.

Feel free to find out more about me and ask me anything you want, and I really look forward to one day teach you something that will get you to achieve your goals! :)

Just so there are no surprises, I raise my prices very slightly every 3 months, next time it will go up is on March 3rd 2017. The reason for this is because I get better and more efficient at teaching as time goes by, so that hour that you get now is much more packed with value than the same hour last year or last month.

I've been studying Japanese got 7 years now. I can teach you basic Japanese.

About Lily
I've been sewing since I was 13. I've sewn things over the years such as dresses, pajamas. I do a lot of tailoring things too. I just love to sew, and I love teaching people to sew too!

The way that I teach is to help the student develop their own style. I have students work on their own individual projects that they pick out while asking me questions that they might have while they are doing their project.

However, if they would like there is an option for me to develop lessons for the student on certain sewing techniques that the student could learn. Although, be aware that learning how to sew takes time and that all the techniques of sewing cannot be done all at once.

Then, there is the third option that the lesson could be a mix of the student doing what they want (choosing their own project) and learning some pre-designed
techniques.

My first goal is to give my students all of the tools they need to feel confident from the very first lesson. I would like for all of my students within the first lesson to finish either of two basic projects (pajama pants or a draw string bag).

My lessons are not like videos you may find online. Meaning projects will take longer than you think they will. I will work with you to properly construct a quality finished project without too many frustrations and in a timely manner. I recommend buying lessons in 90 minute packages, since sewing always takes longer than expected.

THE BEGINNER SEWER

In these lessons we will go over the following, which can be adapted to how you want:

- Sewing safety and how to use a machine
- Learn about the sewing tools you'll be using
- How to read, cut out, layout, and follow a basic pattern instructions
- How to pin and sew a seam, finish seams and sew hems
- Learn to sew on an elastic band (to pajamas or for a tote).
- Learn how to unpick your projects when a mistake is made.
- Learn how to do a basic stitch and the gather stitch.
- TAKE AWAY PROJECTS:
- Pajamas
- Sewing Tote
- Basic Dress
- Pillow case

THE INTERMEDIATE SEWER
- Cement what you learned in the while a beginner.
- Learn to hand sew hems etc.
- Learn about different fabrics and when to use them.
- Sew a basic zipper onto clothes or bags.
- Learn about the different foots.
- Learn to do other stitches
-TAKE AWAY PROJECTS
- Intermediate Dresses/ Clothes
- Bags
-

THE ADVANCED SEWER
- Work on your own projects you choose with help.
- Work with harder fabrics.
-Use a zipper foot to sew an invisible zipper.
- Learn to do advanced stitches
-Learn about pleats and darts.
- TAKE AWAY PROJECTS
- Prom dress
- Suits
- Formal Coats
- Backpacks

Whether it is for a hobby, to decorate your house, to prepare for design school, or to make your own clothes, I can teach you from the very basic sewing skills, to more advance topics such as modifying your patterns to make clothes that fit.

As a native Japanese speaker, who has spent the last 30 years in the United States, I understand the structural and grammatical differences in the two languages. This gives me both the teacher’s and the student’s perspectives, which I find valuable as a language instructor.

I have taught Japanese to college students and adults, using beginning Japanese textbooks, and I am most comfortable teaching high school/college students and adults.
I can also teach conversational Japanese and/or customize the lesson to meet each student’s particular goals and needs.

Send me a message to find out if we are a good match!

About Rie
Born and raised in Japan, I moved to the United States in the 80's to pursue the goal of obtaining a library degree. Fast forward almost 30 years, I now live in Western New York, working in a local school district.
In the past 30 years, I have worked as a librarian, an English instructor in Japan, and a school administrative assistant. I have also taught Japanese to college students and adults in my free time, and when I become an empty nester this summer, would love to dedicate more time teaching the language and customs of my native country. I can help you with homework, conversational Japanese, and more - just contact me and we can find out if we are a good match!

We can focus on all four skills; speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but if a student would like to focus on only speaking, we can certainly do that as well. We also talk about cultural aspects of Japan and cover the vocabularies related to the cultural aspects.

About Emi
Hello, my name is Emi. I was born in Nagano prefecture and raised in Saitama prefecture. After graduating from college in Tokyo, I moved to the U.S. and have been teaching Japanese at public middle schools as well as colleges for almost 30 years. My hobbies are practicing musical instruments and traveling. Especially, I love drumming with Japanese Taiko drum and Brazilian Samba drum. Additionally, I have been organizing summer trips and taking people who are interested in Japanese culture to Tokyo and other cities during summer for the last 10 years.

I have done the background check through AISD public school system.

Sensei seems to really enjoy teaching. As both a native speaker and a longtime resident of the US, she is able to bridge the cultures in a way that many instructors would not be able to. I have been studying with her for over six months - both in a private and college setting - and I feel that I would be hard pressed to find a better teacher. In a college setting, she is very strict and covers a lot of material in a short period of time, and those who take her courses must be prepared to expend significant time and energy for success, but those who can keep up are well equipped to continue their studies with pretty much any other teacher or course.

Sensei Emi was patient, kind, and very thorough with her teaching. I started from knowing absolutely nothing about Japanese language or culture and now, having completed just 5 hours of lessons with her, I feel I have a solid foundation to build upon. Within our 5 hours we covered numbers, greetings, and almost all of the 46 basic hiragana. She was born and raised in Japan so it was lovely hearing about the culture and society from stories she lived through first hand. As I continue my education in Japanese I hope to return to her and continue to learn more. I highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone learning Japanese at any level.

Emi is the second private tutor that my company has had and she by far has been the best, hands-down. She is professional and experienced but she is also flexible with scheduling which is a necessity for business professionals who travel quite a bit for work.
The homework is not strenuous but is focused and important for success in her lessons. She also teaches at a nice pace but also is willing to work with you if you feel that you are falling behind. You can absolutely tell that Emi cares about her students and their progression with the language no matter their age and experience.

Kyoko has been an amazing Japanese teacher to my 8 year old daughter. Her lessons are customized to what the student wants or needs to learn. Most importantly she listens and gives great advice for improving your skills. Kyoko is a great teacher who truly cares about your progress. I’ve tried other teachers and my daughter and me like Kyoko the best by far. So much so, she has been my daughter’s teacher for over 3 years.

Kyoko is extremely knowledgeable and is authentically Japanese born and raised in Japan but has lived in the U.S. for awhile now and is natively fluent in English for parents who may not understand Japanese. Her communication and timeliness are amazing! I’d recommend her to any of my friends and family - and have.

Hello,

With over 8 years experience in tutoring, I have learned what methods work and those that don’t. I’m upbeat, patient, easy going, empathetic, and generally well-liked by others. I’m very good at adapting to different learning styles and have a knack for eliciting the best out of my students through motivation and positive reinforcement.

Throughout university, and after, I mentored many students with great results. In addition to academics I helped them get the most out of their college experience. Everyone I helped benefited greatly, and one runs a very successful consulting business.

I recently returned from spending 2 years in Japan. My current level is JLPT N4.

I started teaching myself Japanese when I was 11 years old. From there, my high school formally held Japanese courses through the local college. I took those classes and courses for 6 years and I continue my Japanese studies in college. I also spent 3 months Japan's Ehime Prefecture as an exchange student, and another 2 weeks spent in Shizuoka as a Sister City representative from Kelso, Washington. I spend too much time around children of all ages and have been conditioned to have super high patience and tolerance. I hope to offer myself as a resource that I never had when I first started my language journey as well as a friend to all of my students.

About Joy
Hello, my name is Joy. I grew up in Santa Cruz, California and spent 10 years in Kelso, Washington. After suffering in the cold, dark, rainy, cold, and rainy North West, I retreated back to my sunny home town Santa Cruz where I've been happily residing for the last two years. In my free time, I enjoy dancing, yoga, cake decorating, spending time with my family, and studying Japanese. I hope to impact lives and change the world!
