I am a native Japanese speaker with a Japanese teaching credential. All ages and levels are welcomed! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. I am also qualified to tutor graduate students (Master’s and PhD) doing their thesis.
I believe when we learn other languages, it is important to learn their culture, history, etc. for better understanding. I’ve learned Japanese drums, how to wear Kimono, Tea and flower ceremonies so that we can explore Japanese culture more than just learning the language!

I can help you with conversation skills, correct pronunciation and proper grammar. I usually use a textbook called ‘Genki’ for my lessons. I provide the textbook so you don’t have to buy it. With ‘Genki’ we can work on various grammar points, vocabulary building, situational role playing, pronunciation, and plenty of exercises to improve your listening and speaking skills.

I try my best to keep the classes as relaxed as possible so that you can feel comfortable speaking and can learn at your own pace.

I highly recommend Miku and have recommended her to several friends because lessons with her are extremely fun, engaging, and thorough. I look forward to every single one, and have already learned so much in what seems like a short time--the time flies! She is also incredibly accommodating and makes rescheduling very easy and hassle free. I very much appreciate the time she shares with me as a student in helping me learn the way I do!

Miku is a great teacher to work with! I've been doing weekly lessons with Miku remotely since December of 2019 (now July 2020 as I'm writing this) starting from no experience.  I was worried about my ability to learn a new language since my only experience prior to this was learning Spanish in school years ago, but learning to read and speak Japanese with Miku's guidance has been the right level of challenging and fun.  Miku is a great communicator, flexible, really knowledgeable, adds nuance to the lessons we move through, and also really just fun to talk to and learn from.
Christopher
I was nervous about one on one tutoring, but honestly I can say with complete confidence that Miku makes me feel very comfortable during these lessons. She does a great job of mixing exercises with casual conversations to help you really understand how to use the language in real conversation. She is always very fun and flexible with the timing. Highly recommended!!

"Mr Yoshi is an amazing teacher! Although I was very nervous, he carefully explained things and encouraged me. He wrote everything, clearly, so I could study later and made sure I understood the meaning behind the words and the reasons those phrases were used, in what context and to whom. I'm extremely happy that I've taken lessons from him. Thank you Mr Yoshi and Take Lessons! I'm even more dedicated to learning Japanese now!"

"Really enjoying our lessons so far! Hikaru is very flexible, which has really worked out well for me. Since I live in Japan our schedules are very different, but we've been able to make it work nonetheless. She always has lesson plans put together and sends you the PDF's before each lesson. If you are curious about things not in the lesson plan, she's always happy to explore that with you as well. Most importantly, she makes you feel comfortable while you are trying to read and speak Japanese. Thank you, Hikaru!"
