My lessons are fun, useful and full of originality and are designed to match your level and meet your goals. For beginning students, I focus on teaching grammar first and using that grammar to practice making short sentences. For the middle and advanced levels students, we will work together to strengthen your vocabulary, listening and reading skills. Also, students write composition homework every time, and we correct mistakes together in the next lesson. Advanced level students discuss one or two news articles or themes ...

First lesson with Mr Park was really good. I have never used an online tutor before so I didn’t know what to expect. He did very well in assessing my current level and pushing thru material. Even limited self study he still covered things that I didn’t know that was pertinent to the language and I appreciate the way he explains things. The language is not a 1-1 and Mr Park did well in explaining how it converts over.

We can focus on all four skills; speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but if a student would like to focus on only speaking, we can certainly do that as well. We also talk about cultural aspects of Japan and cover the vocabularies related to the cultural aspects.

About Emi

Hello, my name is Emi. I was born in Nagano prefecture and raised in Saitama prefecture. After graduating from college in Tokyo, I moved to the U.S. and have been teaching Japanese at public middle schools as well as colleges for almost 30 years. My hobbies are practicing musical instruments and

Sensei seems to really enjoy teaching. As both a native speaker and a longtime resident of the US, she is able to bridge the cultures in a way that many instructors would not be able to. I have been studying with her for over six months - both in a private and college setting - and I feel that I would be hard pressed to find a better teacher. In a college setting, she is very strict and covers a lot of material in a short period of time, and those who take her courses must be prepared to expend significant time and energy for success, but those who can keep up are well equipped to continue their studies with pretty much any other teacher or course.
Chris
Sensei Emi was patient, kind, and very thorough with her teaching. I started from knowing absolutely nothing about Japanese language or culture and now, having completed just 5 hours of lessons with her, I feel I have a solid foundation to build upon. Within our 5 hours we covered numbers, greetings, and almost all of the 46 basic hiragana. She was born and raised in Japan so it was lovely hearing about the culture and society from stories she lived through first hand. As I continue my education in Japanese I hope to return to her and continue to learn more. I highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone learning Japanese at any level.

Emi is the second private tutor that my company has had and she by far has been the best, hands-down. She is professional and experienced but she is also flexible with scheduling which is a necessity for business professionals who travel quite a bit for work.
The homework is not strenuous but is focused and important for success in her lessons. She also teaches at a nice pace but also is willing to work with you if you feel that you are falling behind. You can absolutely tell that Emi cares about her students and their progression with the language no matter their age and experience.

Communication should be simple and fun.
After a smile, it is one of the first foundations of friendship.

I've lived in both USA (California) and Japan (Tokyo), so I have been exposed to both cultures as well as languages.

I do my best to convey each person's intent in the words that are being taught and spoken.

I've been an English teacher at Minerva Language Institute in Tokyo, and learned that words are infinitely interchangeable, from simple to complex.

My experiences with document translation and working as an on-site interpreter in Los Angeles has taught me that understanding each other--both mentally and emotionally--is important in reaching final goals.

About Emma

Hello and Konnichiwa! I possess a Japanese/English Translator's Certification from JTA (Japan Translation Association) and have been teaching since 2004. I would love to join and assist in your Japanese learning experience.

With Masshy as my tutor, I practiced writing and speaking Japanese within the space of one month and a half. I’m one of those people who feel more confident writing than speaking, especially in a language as different from English as Japanese, but Masshy was eagerly helpful, supportive, polite, patient and kind (the list could go on), and we had fun during our casual conversations, conversation games (‘The three-second game’ particularly stood out to me due to all the fun and excitement of getting to its end with as many questions as possible answered in less than three seconds), and even made up a story together. Feel free to ask him any questions, be straightforward about your needs, and he’ll cater to them to the best of his abilities!

"Oyamada Sensei is very good at finding a student's skill level and tailoring his instruction to improve the skills and challenge the limits of the student, which has quickly spurred me on to dramatic improvements in my Japanese ability after only 3 lessons. He also makes it fun by playing to the interests of the student and keeping the sessions light and full of humor. Highly recommended if you want to work hard, have fun, and learn Japanese!"

"This is my first time using the online class. I enrolled my 6 year-old who has written experience with Japanese but needs to practice his conversation skills. Sensei made the class very interactive and we used a lesson plan. Even though the lessons were geared toward an older student, he made sure the vocabulary, sentences and daily experience applied to my son. Highly recommend Sensei Yoshi! Looking forward to the next class! Thank you Sensei!"
