Initially I like to evaluate the student's current comprehension level (regardless of years studied) to better select the appropriate starting point. From there, if there is a specific subject matter or course work/syllabus for a class that needs to be followed, I can tailor lessons to fit those needs. Throughout lessons, I like to bring in elements such as cartoons, newspapers, movie clips, etc. to aid in understanding everyday usage & make learning practical and pertinent to the student.

About Kenji Luis

I grew up speaking English, Portuguese & Japanese in a multilingual family and from a young age developed a strong affinity & penchant for languages. I attended an English-Portuguese Bilingual school through 6th grade and studied Japanese 4 years in high school, along with weekend Japanese school classes. In college I went on to major in International Relations & Diplomacy with a concentration in French studies, also honing my Spanish that I had picked up along the way (with Romance Languages, I have a very easy time of language absorption). I've gone on to work for international companies wherein my language skills have been highly sought after, translating & communicating often in all my language strengths.

Hi, I’ve taught Japanese since 2002 and I’ve always enjoyed teaching and interacting with students. I have taught American adults and college students for over 5 years now. Teaching Japanese to American military personnel and spouses who were stationed in Japan was the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. They truly needed the language skills to live in Japan, and they really appreciated that they were able to learn survival Japanese that’s instantly useful out in town.

I grew up in Japan and came to US to go to college. Since I was a college student, I taught Japanese to middle and high school students during summer in Japan. I have a Master of Education in TESL. Yes, I used to teach English more vigorously, but I found teaching Japanese more rewarding. I teach all levels including those who are starting out and also want to improve their fluency and understand the culture and history!
I’m looking forward to working with whoever is interested in my language :) Thank you!!

About Ai

I started my teaching career when I was a college student. In Japan, I taught both English and Japanese to middle and high school students at a private academy. I have also taught Japanese to adults especially the spouses stationed in Japan and also at community college. I have the Master of Education in TESL; therefore, I’ve taught English more vigorously, but know what it takes to be successful at second language acquisition. I really find it rewarding to teach those who are interested in Japanese language and culture.

I like to get to know your learning styles and what motivates you. I will cater to your needs and make your own lesson plan just for you.

I love teaching and discovering my own culture through the eyes of the students. I love to meet new people and just love the people who want to learn a foreign language. It gives y

ou an opportunity to widen your view of the world!

I’ve also played the piano since I was 3 years old and have the Yamaha certification; therefore, I teach piano too. I also love to play!!

About Naoko

Hi, everyone! I am Naoko. I live in the upper New York state since 2010 and teach Japanese online and in-person. I used to work at a trading company in the semiconductor industry in Japan. Also, I have three years' experience of working in the bridal company. These experiences working in the two different fields are very valuable and I acquired much knowledge and business skills. I like traveling, eating authentic food and talking with foreign people. I have been to Eastern Europe, Asia, Oceania, Canada, Bahamas, Maldives.
I currently teach Japanese online and in the local area around Upstate New York. I have students from various occupations like lawyers, professors, engineers, and doctors. Also, I teach young Japanese children who are developing their literacy and speaking skills, teenage students being homeschooled, and college studen

ts working on JLPT preparation or their graduate theses. Furthermore, I help businessmen and women who are trying to apply for job opportunities in Japan and who want to learn Business Japanese as relates to the honorific system, how to write formal emails, conversation on the telephone, and useful phrases for business situations.
My lessons are full of originality and are designed to match your level and meet your goals. For beginning students, I focus on teaching grammar first and using that grammar to practice making short sentences. For the middle and advanced levels students, we will work together to strengthen your vocabulary, listening and reading skills. Also, they write composition homework every time, and we correct mistakes together in the next lesson. Advanced level students discuss one or two news articles or themes which you decide.
Let's start learning Japanese with me.
I look forward to seeing you soon!

I teach students how to speak Japanese as it is spoken in Japan. Japanese is an extremely complicated language where there are many different ways to say one thing depending on the situation. Context plays a big role in Japanese and so does the pitch of each syllable and the flow of an overall sentence. A Japanese speaker may be able to understand a completely inarticulate sentence just based on context and pitch, therefore with poor pitch or flow, that person may assume a foreign language is being spoken and immediately give up on trying to understand. I focus my lessons on how to speak Japanese like a native Japanese speaker, so that a student can go to Japan and converse normally in practical daily life. This means we work a lot on pronunciation and casual conversation, and the student will learn to speak before they read, and to read before they write, as any native speaker of any language does. If the student prefers to focus on learning reading and writing for more artistic ...

Are you looking to read manga? Watch anime or play Japanese video games without subtitles? I can help you get started on your Japanese language learning journey!

I moved to Japan in 2014 where I taught English, tutored Japanese to other foreigners, and did translations & interpretations in an office. I lived there for 5 years and learned how to speak, read, and write Japanese. I currently have an N2 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) certification -- which means that I'm at a native-like fluency!

I'm currently back in the US now where I help tutor those who are looking to learn Japanese!

So, if you would love

About Nic

Hey there! My name is Nic and I absolutely love Japan and its culture. In 2014, I moved to Japan and lived in a rural town where I was quickly made to speak Japanese everyday. I studied Japanese daily and quickly made many great Japanese friends! We talked a lot about Japanese culture, anime, manga, and other daily life topics in Japan.

Before I left Japan, I took the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and passed the N2 level, which means that I am of native-like fluency! I often help tutor and explain Japanese language concepts to those who are interested in learning the language in both a basic or a higher-level capacity. I try my best to explain difficult topics in easy-to-understand ways with both explanations and examples. A lot of those who I have helped in the past have told me that this was incredibly helpful as they can both gra

sp why certain words or grammar points are used and how to use them!

If you're interested in learning Japanese with me, feel free to reach out and we'll set up a time. I'm looking forward to helping you achieve your Japanese language goals!

"Wow, I want to give ***** 6 Stars! If you are wanting to learn Japanese, then Kyoko is the perfect teacher that anyone could ask for!
I felt embarrassed
to seek help to learn Japanese, because after many years of living in Tokyo for my work, I only knew a few small communicating words here and there... arigato, genki etc... and the writing, well that was 'impossible' to read for me!!
Kyoko was very understanding and made me feel completely comfortable about learning the Japanese language from the beginning. At almost 40 years old and trying to push my brain into learning something new, this was challenging and made me nervous at times. But Kyoko is an amazing teacher and when I finished a lesson with her, I was so proud with what I had accomplished and she made me feel empowered and more driven. I can now understand words in hirigana!! It is amazing to me.
I thank Kyoko so much for her help and support with the lessons we had together :) I will do my best."
