French Lessons in Atlanta, GA

By Natalie T. - Atlanta French Teacher

Are you interested in French lessons in Atlanta? Atlanta is a thriving, multicultural metropolis with plenty of opportunities to learn almost any modern language! From classes to events to organizations, there are several community resources to help you learn French for the first time, improve your skills, or simply practice on a conversational level.

  1. The Alliance Française d'Atlanta

The Alliance Française is an international organization, dedicated to promoting and preserving the French language and culture. The United States is fortunate to have an Alliance Française in almost every major city. The organization is membership-based, but membership is optional and affordable. For example, members are currently able to participate in “Heure Heureuse,” a conversational group for all French levels held every third Friday of the month. The organization is also child-friendly, hosting engaging programs involving activities such as games and cooking lessons. The Alliance Française will help you complete a placement test to help determine your language level and there are periodically volunteer or internship positions available so that you can further get involved and practice French! (http://afatl.com/)

  1. The Atlanta French Language Meetup Group

Founded in 2003, this is a conversational group that meets every third Monday of the month to practice French in an informal setting. All language levels are welcome and entry is just $1.00 per meeting. The group is comprised of 50% native French speakers and 50% non-native French speakers, with approximately 50-60 people attending at a time. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to meet French speakers and/or practice their French in a friendly environment. RSVP at: http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-French-Language-Meetup/. There are also two other groups in Roswell and North Fulton.

  1. Emory University - Continuing Education Courses

If you’re looking to practice the language outside your private French lessons in Atlanta, check out Emory University’s Continuing Education courses. Like most college language courses, these classes offer a well-rounded curriculum of study to include pronunciation, spelling, grammar, conversational skills, and cultural learning. Emory has an impressive, longstanding reputation within the world of academia and continuing education courses for personal enrichment are no exception. A list of French courses can found at the following link: http://ece.emory.edu/catalogDetail.php?CatalogID=53.

Atlanta provides many options for those seeking to learn French for the first time, or to train their current French skills. There is an option for every budget or schedule. Outside of the classroom or conversational group, volunteer work is always an option and much appreciated by all of the above organizations. Volunteer work will also provide language immersion and useful skills at the same time. Simply decide which option is best for you, and amusez-vous bien!

I have a B.A. in Foreign Languages and Literature issued by the University of Verona, Italy.

I have studied French for several years and I tutored it in the past. I will be very good to teach beginner to intermediate level.

About ENRICO
I am a native Italian speaker with a several years of experience in teaching Italian and English. I am a very easy-going, open-minded, professional person. I like to teach because it gives me the opportunity to meet new students, share my knowledge as well as my culture and experience.

I started tutoring back when I was attending the university in Verona, Italy. I was tutoring English, Math and some other subjects. Later on, I continued teaching English while I was working in other fields. In 2009 I moved to Los Angeles. For a couple of years, I taught ESL in a college, and in the meantime I tutored Italian to private students. Since 2009 I have been tutoring students both on the English and Italian subjects.

I really believe that in teaching, a language a primary focus should be on life skills. Not being an English native-speaker,
I learned how important it is to be able to express basic needs and to perform primary activities. However, it is important to consider other points like grammar, reading, writing. I also think that no matter what a teacher should always take into account the needs of the students and subsequently I plan my classes reflecting on the student's demands.

As to the different approaches and materials that I use, I suppose that it is important to change them frequently in order to keep the classes more interesting. Of course, there are some exceptions. For instance, in the past I taught for a while TOEFL and for that type of classes I used more traditionalist and academic methods and materials.

Customized lessons to the students' needs and goals.

*** Specialties ***
- T.E.F.L. Certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language

- Italian Native Speaker with a several year experience in teaching Italian

- M.A in Foreign Languages and Literature (English and French)

One of my greatest passion is to cook. I was extremely lucky to be taught and introduced to the art of cooking by my grandmother. She was born at the beginning of the previous century and she lived in different cities so she got accustomed to different traditions and shared them with me. I love to cook for smaller groups, using traditional Italian ingredients to prepare simple, but exquisite dishes that belong to the tradition of my native country. If you want to experience some real Italian food, you are definitely in the right hands. Just sit back, relax sip a glass of Italian wine while I cook for you and I share my art.

I’m a highly motivated and organized professional with experience as a French tutor for adults and children. I’ve taught in different structures in New York and I have gained experience over the years with the method I use. I’m focusing on oral practise as it is the best way to get immersed and also because beginners tend to imitate what they hear. I also think learning French can’t be achieved properly without a strong understanding of the grammar. Therefore, focusing on exercises is very important and help students understand the structure of the language. I think learning a new language is a rich experience as it gives you new paradigmes and visions carried by the language. As much as learning a new language is hard and could be painful and seen after a few classes as pointless by new beginners, the playful dimension is very important to keep the students motivated.
Over the years, I’ve also noticed that students want to focus on French culture and not only exercises from books and
