I am a native french speaker who's been studying and working in french for over 30 years. Not only I have a good exposure to the french language through my professional experience but I am also familiar with french in a school setting. I helped my three kids with their homework throughout middle school and high school. I also volunteered to teach french classes to kids who needed help but couldn't afford it. I enjoy preparing lessons which I customize based on what each student needs focusing on perfecting strengths and improving weaknesses. My teaching method mainly involves patience and encouragement. Hello,

I am an RPN from the French-Swiss border. I currently live in the US with my husband and young daughter. I am looking to teach formal or informal French to a student of any fluency level (beginner and up). I am fully versed in business vernacular, as well as every day vocabulary. I am fluent in English, so I will be to translate any terms you feel are particularly relevant to your development as a French speaker.

As a nurse in Europe, I worked at a geriatric clinic in Switzerland. I translated text and/or conversations from French to German (and vice-versa) on a daily basis. I am passionate about linguistic fluency, and I will be proud to help you on your Francophone journey. I look forward to meeting you (virtually) and crafting a lesson plan that is pertinent to your goals.

Kindest regards,
Stef

I first started learning French when I was in high school and was amazed at how many similarities it shared with Spanish (which both descend from Latin) which helped me to pick up things a lot faster. I have since lived in the "French House" (at the Foreign Language Student Residence, part of on-campus housing at BYU) for two semesters where residents are required to speak their target language while in their respective apartments. I also took a third-year advanced grammar French class while at college while living in the French House. French is just an awesome language to learn!

I hail from Walla Walla, Washington, home of the "famous" sweet onions. I can't begin to express how much I love languages!! I have studied 8 so far (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, and Dutch) and I teach 5 (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Japanese), and

"I am currently taking French classes to further my education and because of my love for the language. Of all of my learning, Philippe Fadi has been BY FAR the best teacher of any course I have taken. Rather than a standard rote learning of verbs/tenses/adjectives, etc. - which are all important - Monsieur Fadi caters the sessions to the interests and skill levels of his students. He is also very clear that 'perfect French' is not a goal - but to instead work to convey an idea or thought. Last semester our intermediate class spent time discussing and writing about current events - something I would never have dreamed to try when the course began. By the end of the course I had started reading French magazines and newspapers (dictionary in hand) and listening to French music, something I now carry on to reinforce my learning and vocabulary. My confidence has grown considerably just from that one course alone. As I register for more courses, I will continue to request Monsieur Fadi. Merci beaucoup!"

"I had the pleasure of learning higher intermediate/conversational French with Philippe last year for several weeks. I must say that he was the best French professor I ever had. He was extremely meticulous with his approach and took the time to understand my strengths and weaknesses and curated the course based on that. He understood that there were days when I was finding the right words and would take the lead in our conversations. Whereas, other days, he would let me lead the discussions. We discussed on topics related to politics, society, religion, science, travel and business. He was extremely polite, and professional and didn't impose any of his beliefs and stayed true to his goal of helping me improve my French skills. By the end of our session, I was able to make a presentation of my work in international development and global health with him in French. He even helped me translate my poem in French. In addition to providing me with the ears to understand spoken French better, and the ability to speak more correctly, he also immensely helped with grammar topics such as subjunctive, future, and conditional sentences. I provide my highest recommendation of Philippe and assure you that he will make your French learning experience the one to remember."

French Lessons in Miami

In a city affectionately dubbed "Little Cuba", it's easy to assume that, outside English, Spanish is the only language you'll encounter. However, if you're taking French lessons in Miami, you also have plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in the the language and traditions of France. You just have to know where to look!

Check out these local places and events if you want to enrich your vocabulary, practice your pronunciations, and enjoy cuisine as authentic as its European inspiration.

  1. Consulat général de France à Miami (Website in French: http://www.consulfrance-miami.org/) (Website in English: http://www.consulfrance-miami.org/spip.php?rubrique2) Florida's only French consulate is located right in the heart of Miami's financial district, in a sprawling suit
...

e of the Espirito Santo Plaza. If you want to meet French citizens, Americans who travel to France, or representatives of the French government, this is the best place in the state to do so. The consulate's chancellery issues visas to citizens of both countries, hosts attachés who are here on behalf of France, and advocates for French citizens who must navigate the American legal system.

If you want to attend specific events, the Consulat général de France has that covered, too. Its diplomats work directly with the embassy in Washington, D.C. to make sure the French culture is celebrated and represented accurately throughout the state. Because the Miami community has so many international influences, it's the perfect setting for most of the consulate's official French events. These include film festivals, award ceremonies, workshops, heritage days, and more.

  1. France Cinéma Floride (http://www.francecinemafloride.com/) Each fall, hundreds of South Florida Francophiles gather in Miami for the state's annual French film festival. You may already enjoy French films from the comfort of home, but this is your one and only chance to get the full cinematic experience and discover little-known films that are otherwise unavailable in the States.

Miami's picturesque Tower Theater hosts the event every October or November, and the three-day weekend includes up to a dozen new French releases. If you just started taking French lessons in Miami, don't worry about missing key moments. Every film is subtitled, and every poster and program is available in both languages, too. You'll even get the opportunity to interact with French filmmakers; at least one film is always followed by a question-and-answer session.

  1. Tigertail's Florida-France Festival (http://www.tigertail.org/events_flafra15.html) France isn't the only French influence in South Florida, and that's readily apparent at the annual Florida-France Festival (more commonly known as FLA-FRA). Thanks to Miami's close proximity to the Caribbean (and hundreds of local Louisiana transplants), this month-long cultural event is full of Creole and Cajun influences, too.

These languages originated as French dialects, but as they evolved, they integrated vocabulary and grammar from English, African, Spanish, and Native American languages. Now, these colonial French offshoots are rich with their own unique music, dance, and fashion traditions. FLA-FRA honors these traditions with performances by Cajun folk bands, Creole jazz musicians, and more.

Of course, the French consulate ensures that European French gets plenty of representation at FLA-FRA, too. Watch classic French films right on the beach, interact with Napoleon impersonators and accordion players, and enjoy audio-visual travelogues that showcase French landmarks and landscapes. You'll even get to participate in a French-themed treasure hunt (chasse au trésor), collecting clues and competing for the grand prize: a gourmet French meal.

Miami is alive with the languages and cultures of hundreds of different countries, but as you take French lessons in Miami, you may notice that France is one of its most dominant and surprising influences. Don't forget to keep an eye out for Miami's many French fusion restaurants and museum exhibits, too!

How Speaking With People in France Will Help You Reach Fluency

Reading and writing are two of the three components of mastering a language. They are very important but they may not provide as much fun and opportunities to reach fluency as speaking directly with others. So, let’s see how speaking with people in France will definitely help you become fluent.   As defined in Wikipedia, “Oral fluency or speaking fluency is a measurement both of production and reception of speech, as a fluent speaker must be able to understand and respond to others …

Introduction to French Grammar: How to Ask a Question

In French, like in English, you can often make a statement into a question just by raising your voice at the end. However, that's not the only way the French might pose a question, and as you learn French you're likely to come across many other variations. It's a good idea to get all the other forms of interrogative sentence under your belt as well. 1. Question words. Just like English, French question words can be used to start off a sentence you want to turn into a question. These words take …

What Are the Differences Between Quebecois and French?

French is a language that has reached over 25 countries and touched many cultures over the centuries. It was the lingua franca before English overtook it, and still remains a formidable language in the international community. Perhaps one of the places on which it maintains a significant stronghold is in Quebec, Canada, and certainly Quebecois is the most well known French-speaking former colony. French settlers established communities there in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the language i …
