I have studied and traveled in Mexico and Spain. My hometown and Bay Area history are full of Spanish speakers, a great way to put my language skills to use. My students have improved their grades and found joy in learning a new language. I hope my practically-minded method will appeal to you. I have written and spoken extensively in Spanish. Poetry, research papers, music . . . Thanks for your interest, and please do not hesitate to contact me personally for more information. I hope to be able to meet your educational needs. Thank you.

About Lars
I began to teach guitar at 16 years of age. I have taught students from 7 to 60 years old in a wide variety of styles. From age 12 to 21 I took private guitar lessons regularly. Now I have a lesson every once in a while. I studied jazz guitar primarily with Randy Vincent, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's greatest guitar players. Aside from teaching lessons as a job, I have played guitar in many concerts and continue to do so. Before moving to San Francisco, I gained a lot of experience and valuable education with guitar. I played in the jazz bands in Junior High and High School. I went to four years of a week long summer jazz camp called jazz camp west where I took classes, played open mics and had fun with many musicians, making some good friends. I hold BA degrees in Music (Jazz Guitar) and Spanish, as well as an MA in Musi
c, from San Francisco State University. By now, I am confident in working with whatever musical material students offer! Thank you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher, but I definitely expect students to practice what I suggest they practice. I advise that students use method books or sheet music of some sort, and I will certainly make notes for them and create materials they can learn from. I always teach based on the goals of the student and what type of music they enjoy, but I also like to guide the student in a direction I think would benefit them. I usually introduce music to play right away, conforming of course to the skill level and interest of the student. I now play seven-string guitar, which is just a six-string guitar (same tuning and technique) with an extra low string. It will be practical to aide students by accompanying with a bass range instrument.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar
I consider myself a Jazz musician, but I am happy to consider a very wide range of styles. I am focusing now on music of the Spanish Golden Age, 1500-1700.

Not only have I studied Spanish, but I have also lived in Peru and Mexico for a several years, as well as traveled extensively around Latin America, gaining complete fluency. In addition to Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Conversational Spanish, I also teach Spanish for Healthcare Professionals.

About Jackie
Hi! My name is Jackie, and I have 15+ years of experience in teaching, tutoring, and training. Currently, I am enjoying managing two small businesses while teaching students part time.

All of my students, meaning a perfect 100%, have improved their grades by at least one letter grade, if not more, and passed every one of their tests and exams. I help ALL my clients reach their goals!

A couple years ago, I returned to San Diego after living in Peru for several years where I taught English as a second language. My students ranged from adult business people and academicians to primary and secondary school students. I really needed to utilize different teaching methods depending on each student’s needs. Some students wanted more business-related conversation, so I had to be able to teach business principles in marketing, communication,
logistics, interviewing, and so much more. Critical thinking was an area that I pushed my business students to improve. Other students needed to work on the basics of grammar, reading, and writing, and we had a lot of fun in class, whether going through the interactive lesson or improvising by playing fun games to emphasize thinking on their feet in another language.

The feedback I often received from my Peruvian students, as well as my students in Mexico and the U.S., was that I made learning an enjoyable experience—they wanted to work harder to advance quickly in their classes. All of my students agree that I have a lot of patience and turn even the most challenging lessons into ones of positivity and encouragement. I provide critical feedback in the most constructive of ways that help the students reach conclusions on their own. I enjoy being there to support and guide their experience!

Before I left for Peru, I worked at St Vincent de Paul Village (part of Father Joe's Villages) in downtown San Diego. There I focused on Health Education. I built the Villages' first Health Education department and helped start its innovative Health & Wellness program. As part of these two programs, I taught homeless and low-income adults with and without learning disabilities, as well as children from preschoolers to high school students. Teaching such a wide variety of students how to improve their health while living in sometimes precarious situations without much income or stability pushed me to think creatively and come up with memorable ways to engage the students and help them apply what they had learned in their daily routine.

In high school, I took all AP and college prep classes. I went to a liberal arts college in Virginia where I focused on social studies and biology. I spent a few years training business people in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, InDesign, as well as presentation techniques. In grad school, I specialized in applied anthropology and public health. During that time, I tutored students in web design. In between, I've worked in Communications and Training in international health and development, so I have a lot of experience to bring to teaching.

Basically, I love teaching. I'm enthusiastic yet patient, and I absolutely adore helping kids and adults alike learn. It's such a sense of accomplishment when my students show off their terrific grades. I see the same look in my students’ eyes regardless of age—that pride that shines from within, that exuberant smile, like they can conquer anything. I want my students to keep that pride for a long, long time.

Right now, I'm writing two textbooks to be used in my Spanish classes. I've also written several academic articles published online. I love traveling, cats, and learning!

Immersive, intensive and interactive approach to Romance languages through folk music and acting and interacting in group set up or one to one.

I believe in learning while laughing and comparing to a better and faster understanding.

We can focus in English and Spanish or included other Romance languages like French, Italian and Portuguese or even all of them at the same time.
All these languages have a very similar root, just need to learn the different approach and in few sessions you will have an understanding of the whole Romance world.
Allowing and speeding the learning and the fluidity of your conversation exponentially.

About Veronica
Born in Spain I have lived in 8 different countries in Europe and America.
I live to compare and enrich my culture and share the knowledge with the world.

Beside comparing Romance languages to one another for better understanding and deeper learning we will be comparing between the different kind of Spanish on the globe.
So we will not only learn Castilian but a wider ranger of South American expression and idioms so we can be fully understood where ever we go!

I'm Cuban, so Spanish is my native language, and if that's not enough I studied Spanish Linguistics at the University of Havana. Linguists can classify languages according to their history, as well as according to the language's structure and according to how words are formed. With that background, I can teach beginner, intermediate and advanced as well. If you want to learn Spanish as you know your native language I'm your teacher for the job.

About Ivette
I'm a philologist, meaning, I studied the Spanish language deeply. I'm from Cuba and my native language, of course, is Spanish. My minor was in Hispanic Literature.

“Being bilingual, it turns out, makes you smarter,” Yudhijit Bhattacharjee wrote once in a piece for the New York Times Sunday Review. “It can have a profound effect on your brain, improving cognitive skills not related to language and even shielding against dementia in old age.” In an increasingly global world, being bilingual makes you a more competitive force in society for jobs, travel, speaking to clients abroad.
Also, Spanish is considered world's second-most spoken native language, after Mandarin Chinese.

I taught Spanish as a second language since I graduated in 2012. In 2015 I left Cuba and came to the US. In here I've been teaching children from 3 to 5 years
old in a bilingual program. I can teach all different ages and experience levels. I believe that everyone can learn a second or a third language, the only thing that you need is a motivation, any kind of motivation is essential to learn something new.

I look forward to meeting you and help you find that motivation.
