I am a native speaker and former school teacher in Japan. Learning is fun-that's my motto. When you achieve your goals, you enjoy a feeling of accomplishment, right? I want to help you to achieve your goals. My lesson starts from finding what students really need to learn. Understanding student is the key to success. I am very strong in teaching proper Japanese, including reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji with fun way. Also, casual, informal, practical Japanese too.

2.5 years ago we were fortunate enough to find Toshi to teach our son Japanese. Our son started out as a high school student wanting to understand anime and his video games in their original language. Our son is legally blind so a talented and creative teacher was needed. Since then he has enjoyed learning the language with Toshi so much that he has formed professional goals to become a translator. Our son is now heading to university in the fall and will be majoring in Japanese Studies. The program includes a semester abroad in Japan and an internship with a major Japanese corporation. His goal is long term so he will continue to work with Toshi alongside his college studies to reach his goals. Toshi has always taken our son seriously and has adjusted his teaching program as his goals expanded. Toshi’s lessons are still a highlight of the week and it continuously surprises us to hear our son speak the language so beautifully. Our long term investment of lessons with Toshi has been very successful and such a positive experience. We highly recommend Toshi!

先生 いつもありがとうございます。"

Having almost no experience with the language, within the first 5 weeks of learning from Aimi せんせい, I have made tremendous strides in learning Japanese, so much so that I've decided to continue taking lessons beyond the first 5.
During each lesson, in addition to having a well structured learning plan, Aimi is amazing at explaining the cultural origins or words/phrases as well as some of the more nuanced aspects of the language. In addition to this, she also is very responsive over text, and is able to answer any questions I might have throughout the week (outside of lessons).
Lastly, I think the best part of these lessons are that they are fun, instant feedback and learning goals oriented, and that she changes the lesson/matches the pace the student is trying to/learning at.
ありがとうございました, せんせい!"

When learning to speak Japanese, you’ll come across suffixes used to address people called “honorifics.” Japanese honorifics are an important way to convey respect, formality, and friendship to those you interact with. Both formal and informal honorifics are common in Japanese, which is why every speaker needs to get the basic suffixes down. To an English speaker, the concept of honorifics may seem new, but the fact is, we already use terms, such as Miss, Mr., and Dr. as prefixes. But …

In most romance languages, conjugations are based on tons of factors, including subject, number, and even gender. For example, in Italian, "I am tired" is Io sono stanca; but if you are male, it's Io sono stanco. If there are sever …
