Private Japanese Teacher

As a native Japanese speaker, who has spent the last 30 years in the United States, I understand the structural and grammatical differences in the two languages. This gives me both the teacher’s and the student’s perspectives, which I find valuable as a language instructor.

I have taught Japanese to college students and adults, using beginning Japanese textbooks, and I am most comfortable teaching high school/college students and adults.
I can also teach conversational Japanese and/or customize the lesson to meet each student’s particular goals and needs.

Send me a message to find out if we are a good match!

I am a native Japanese speaker with a Japanese teaching credential. All ages and levels are welcomed! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. I am also qualified to tutor graduate students (Master’s and PhD) doing their thesis.
I believe when we learn other languages, it is important to learn their culture, history, etc. for better understanding. I’ve learned Japanese drums, how to wear Kimono, Tea and flower ceremonies so that we can explore Japanese culture more than just learning the language!

Do you like Japanese language? Culture? fashion? food?
I'm a native Japanese who loves and is passionate many things about Japan.
I lived in Japan for first half of my life and have been living in USA another half.

I learned English from beginner level when I came to US and went through hard time learning a foreign language myself, so I can understand what would be the best way for you to learn with your language level.

I've been helping my friends and taught Japanese online.
I'm very patient and natural listener, so I will create my lessons customized from your personalities, goals, and language levels.

I'm also open to advise most things about Japan other than language.
I'm very flexible, easy to talk to and love to talk to people from all over the world.
I would like to help you learn what you are interested about Japan to reach your goals.

Let's have a fun and learn Japanese or about Japan together!

About Sayaka

Nice to meet you! I'm a native Japanese who have been in US for over 10 years. I have taught Japanese to my friends and online. I am a very patient and a natural listener, so I will listen to your goal, observe your level of Japanese and customize your lessons to be as efficient as possible within

I have taken 5 lessons with Sayaka sensei and although it’s been rough ( not because of Sayaka Sensei, but because of my busy schedule) it has been completely worth it. Sayaka sensei is patient and understanding. I’ve had to reschedule various classes due to overbooking myself and she has been understanding and gracious enough to keep being my sensei lol
I look forward to my classes, no matter how exhausted I am and only a good sensei can provide that sense of motivation. If you are considering taking Japanese lessons, Sayaka sensei is the right person to help you with your journey.

P.s Japanese is a challenging language (in my opinion)but it’s very interesting!

We can focus on all four skills; speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but if a student would like to focus on only speaking, we can certainly do that as well. We also talk about cultural aspects of Japan and cover the vocabularies related to the cultural aspects.

About Emi

Hello, my name is Emi. I was born in Nagano prefecture and raised in Saitama prefecture. After graduating from college in Tokyo, I moved to the U.S. and have been teaching Japanese at public middle schools as well as colleges for almost 30 years. My hobbies are practicing musical instruments and

Sensei seems to really enjoy teaching. As both a native speaker and a longtime resident of the US, she is able to bridge the cultures in a way that many instructors would not be able to. I have been studying with her for over six months - both in a private and college setting - and I feel that I would be hard pressed to find a better teacher. In a college setting, she is very strict and covers a lot of material in a short period of time, and those who take her courses must be prepared to expend significant time and energy for success, but those who can keep up are well equipped to continue their studies with pretty much any other teacher or course.
Chris
Sensei Emi was patient, kind, and very thorough with her teaching. I started from knowing absolutely nothing about Japanese language or culture and now, having completed just 5 hours of lessons with her, I feel I have a solid foundation to build upon. Within our 5 hours we covered numbers, greetings, and almost all of the 46 basic hiragana. She was born and raised in Japan so it was lovely hearing about the culture and society from stories she lived through first hand. As I continue my education in Japanese I hope to return to her and continue to learn more. I highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone learning Japanese at any level.

Emi is the second private tutor that my company has had and she by far has been the best, hands-down. She is professional and experienced but she is also flexible with scheduling which is a necessity for business professionals who travel quite a bit for work.
The homework is not strenuous but is focused and important for success in her lessons. She also teaches at a nice pace but also is willing to work with you if you feel that you are falling behind. You can absolutely tell that Emi cares about her students and their progression with the language no matter their age and experience.

Learn Japanese Grammar: How to Use Japanese Adjectives

Verbs and nouns are vital to form a sentence, but if you want to add some color, you also need adjectives. Here, Ann Arbor, MI teacher Elaina R. shows you how to use Japanese adjectives... Adjectives are descriptive words. The stove is hot. The blue sky turned black. I am confused. We use tons of adjectives in our everyday speech.
