About Emi
I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada by Japanese parents. I was privileged with different kinds of learning opportunities including piano, Japanese language, ice skating, ballet, skiing and martial arts. After high school I attended university where I majored in Piano performance.

Over the last 10 years I have tutored all ages for piano and Japanese and learned how to be patient, persistent and to just be able to adjust and accommodate to different kinds of learning styles and abilities. I realized that it’s important to have a structure in your teaching styles and have clear expectations, standards and goals. Making certain modifications to your teaching styles along the way is crucial as well to meet individual student needs. I believe in setting high standards for students is an important way to get them to rise to their pote
ntial.

In my free time I love to go on a short hike, explore new restaurants or see a live music show.

Hiromi is wonderful. This was my 13 year old son's first lesson on piano, and Hiromi tailor made the lesson to fit his level of experience. He was able to improv and experiment with the keyboard, and Hiromi guided him through perfectly, while then following up with structure. Thanks to Hiromi and a wonderful first lesson. :)

今日は and welcome to learning Japanese, I have a bachelor's degree in Japanese language and culture from the Ohio State University, and I have tutored Japanese before and it really isn't as intimidating as it looks. I've learned through many ways and I have many many resources that I will gladly share with you so you can learn on your own, whether you're a beginner or advanced, I can direct you to how to become very fluent with all my knowledge and resources combined. Also as a bonus I will teach you some kanji calligraphy if interested as well.

About Moataz
I am a Freelance Graphic Designer living in Stamford, Connecticut. I love learning and teaching, like a lot. I teach languages, Lettering, branding, and the basics of Graphic design as well as the adobe programs that bring it to life.

My promise to you is that I will teach you everything I know in the time I'm given and provide you with all sorts of outside resources to get you on your way to fluency and proficiency.

I'll make sure to do my absolute best to get you speaking a new language from day one, learning a Design program immediately, or teaching you how to letter with the rules they don't teach you in school. And best of all, I'll even show you how to actually make money with all of these.

I have a very unique journey into learning where I experienced many places and got a fresh and different understanding to the many su
bjects that I teach. For example my knowledge of multiple languages and travel to different countries gave me an added knowledge of linguistics that I experienced first hand and confirmed in books, so now I know how languages work, and can relate a concept from one language to another even if the languages seem completely different.

My Design work has been very general so I've done a lot of different things before I specialized in hand lettering, so I've done it all from advertisements on billboards to website design and development, to copywriting, to branding from start to finish for companies big and small.

My love for lettering and Calligraphy emerged when I started getting more Logos for client work and my exploration of type wasn't the best answer most of the time so I would letter everything myself, and the rest is history.

I am really passionate about learning and even more passionate about sharing what I've learned. I am efficient, I know what works for different people since I taught in classrooms and tutored way before I knew about Takelessons, and I'm most proud of being praised as a very genuine person. A very common compliment I get is that I sincerely want my students to do well. And it makes me really happy every time someone says it, and I hope that one day you see that and tell me the same thing.

Feel free to find out more about me and ask me anything you want, and I really look forward to one day teach you something that will get you to achieve your goals! :)

Just so there are no surprises, I raise my prices very slightly every 3 months, next time it will go up is on March 3rd 2017. The reason for this is because I get better and more efficient at teaching as time goes by, so that hour that you get now is much more packed with value than the same hour last year or last month.

I am a Japanese teacher specializing in teaching intermediate and advanced levels. Although all levels are welcome, usually my students are highly motivated college students or adults who wish to study or work in Japan. I look forward to working with you!

[Academic Japanese, Business Japanese, Conversational Japanese, Japanese Writing, JLPT preparation]

About Erika
Minasan konnichiwa! My name is Erika. I was born and grew up in Saitama Pref., Japan. For those of you who don’t know where it is, Saitama is Tokyo’s neighbor to the north. The movie “Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro)” directed by Hayao Miyazaki is actually based on hills in my hometown!

I moved to San Diego, CA in 2013 after I received my first MA in Literature. I went to San Diego State University and earned my second MA in Applied Linguistics in 2015. I also earned Advanced Certificate in TESL/TEFL from SDSU, which helped me reassess my perspectives on teaching and learning. I have been teaching Japanese both in Japan and the US for almost 10 years, and currently teach at SDSU and UC San Diego Extension besides private lessons as well as business/medical translating. I always enjoy teaching and love helping my students learn new
culture!

***Lesson Details***

All levels are welcome, though many of my students are intermediate-advanced levels. I assess your proficiency level based on my experience as a teacher and a linguist. According to your learning goals, I tailor a teaching plan so it meets your needs and objectives of studying Japanese. What would you like to learn, the language itself or the culture as well? Here are the main lessons I offer to students:

- Conversational Japanese (business, academic)
- Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) preparation
- Writing support (business, academic, or personal)

Conversational Japanese lessons are aimed at improving your listening and speaking skills while working on increasing your vocabulary. We also review grammar points if necessary. This will help you pick up cultural and social cues in everyday conversation. The JLPT preparation and writing support courses are mainly for advanced students, who wish to achieve higher goals. The test is taken not only by students who want to study in Japan but also by people who want to measure their progress in Japanese. It’s very useful for you to set a learning goal, so you have direction in your studies, motivation to continue, and measurable results that you can check to review your progress.

For all lessons, I choose teaching materials that students would be interested such as Japanese News websites or short videos. If you have a textbook you’ve been working on and are going to learn with me regularly, I would make lesson plans based on it too. Basically each student receives their own lesson plans.

***PLEASE READ!!***
- 48 hours notice for cancellations and reschedule.
- If you would like to have a lesson outside of the listed hours, please let me know. I will try to accommodate your schedule.

My lessons with Ms. Young-Ju are/were amazing! She actually takes the time to teach and make sure you understand what the lesson is about and what is going on. There is also a good flow of communication, no stiffness or awkwardness. And most importantly, the lesson actually feels like a lesson and not as though I'm simply being read a dictionary or reading a book.

A great instructor and I highly recommend her.

I focus on speech fluency, it doesn't matter if you memorize vocabulary but don't have the confidence to speak the words you took the time to study. I practice with the basics of grammar because I want you to be comfortable saying the first thing that pops into your head, we can work on building more advanced skills later.

About Kyle
Hi, I am an undergrad studying Horticulture at OSU, I enjoy gardening and working together with people and plants. I am a baking enthusiast, I love all forms of food, and I live to play soccer.
My parent's took me to Japan for 3 years as a child to expose me to different cultures and people, which I've taken to heart in believing that however different our upbringing or backgrounds are, we are just people. People who just want to communicate their thoughts, emotions, and observations with others, and I want to help contribute to spreading communication as much as I can.
I have worked as a TA and tutor at OSU for students studying Japanese, and I have helped many Japanese exchange students understand English grammar and how they can relate(make connections with) their native language to English.
I will structure lessons that are practical
for you to learning English or Japanese that relate to your interests and profession. My intentions are for you to become more comfortable speaking in your second language, to develop conversation skills that you can use, and to take enjoyment from using a non-native language.
I am an easygoing, reliable, patient guy. I understand we all start at different levels of fluency and will work with you every step of the way, in other words, fluency is repetition.
