Having attended American school on the weekdays and a total-immersion Japanese school on the weekends (and coming home to parents who only spoke Japanese), I was lucky enough to grow up completely bi-lingual. With over a decade of experience teaching in private and classroom settings, I make my lessons fun, high-energy, and tailor-made to each individual. Please feel free to send me a message, and let's learn some Japanese! Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

About Laura

Hello! I am a NYC-based singer, pianist, actress, and animal-lover. Born and raised in Los Angeles, my artistic career began as a classical pianist, performing in venues across California, Japan, and Austria from a very young age. As a singer, I performed around the world with the Broadway tour of

Laura was wonderful with my 5 year old girl, she was patient, energetic and her love for music showed through! My daughter has been very motivated to practice her songs to show "Ms Laura" next week. We look forward to working much more with Laura.

I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.

Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.

Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands.

Hello! I'm a native Japanese speaker and experienced Japanese tutor. I have been tutoring Japanese since when I was in university as a TA for international students. I adopt the best teaching method and material for each student's needs and make sure that learning experience is fun and effective.

About Tomoko

When it comes to learning a language, I believe that correct grammatical understanding and the amount of output are equally important. Hence I focus on both grammar and speaking/writing practice during my lesson for the best result and you'll feel that your Japanese is improving! My previous Jap

The lesson moved at a comfortable pace. As this is our first intro to Japanese lessons, we had some difficulties with word pronunciation, but Tomoko was patient with us. She helped us break the words down and understand the sentence structures.
We look forward to our next lesson.

Yuriko is very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. I've been studying Japanese on my own for about a month and decided I wanted an instructor to help me. I was very nervous to speak Japanese in front of her as my studies have left me reading about grammar and vocabulary, not necessarily saying much of it out loud, but she quickly calmed me with her reassuring nature. She provided me with a lot of insight on the use cases for many words/phrases, as well as Japanese culture. I left my first lesson feeling confident and ready for more!

I'd highly recommend Yuriko to anyone wanting a Japanese language instructor! She's the best!

I am a native Japanese speaker with a Japanese teaching credential. All ages and levels are welcomed! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. I am also qualified to tutor graduate students (Master’s and PhD) doing their thesis.
I believe when we learn other languages, it is important to learn their culture, history, etc. for better understanding. I’ve learned Japanese drums, how to wear Kimono, Tea and flower ceremonies so that we can explore Japanese culture more than just learning the language!

I began studying the Japanese language at the age of 15, motivated by the discovery of resources which allowed me to start the long journey of language discovery. Much as I do now, I felt an excitement about achieving an understanding and use of an additional language. As a lifelong student of Japanese, I am reliable teacher of those who share my interest in the language.

I studied Japanese Language in SFSU, during which I was able to study abroad and live in Japan for a year. I feel I can be of tremendous help to anyone interested in developing their Japanese comprehension.

About Stuart

I have been a student of Japanese language for 10 years and have never lost the excitement of learning and becoming proficient enough to have had the experiences in life that resulted. During that time, having a passion brought out the best in me and learning any language for the first time is extr

"This is my first time using the online class. I enrolled my 6 year-old who has written experience with Japanese but needs to practice his conversation skills. Sensei made the class very interactive and we used a lesson plan. Even though the lessons were geared toward an older student, he made sure the vocabulary, sentences and daily experience applied to my son. Highly recommend Sensei Yoshi! Looking forward to the next class! Thank you Sensei!"

A Beginner's Guide to Japanese Stroke Order

Having trouble figuring out the stroke order for Japanese characters? Whether you're using hiragana, katakana, or kanji, these tips from Japanese teacher Karou N. will help you learn the correct stroke order for Japanese characters... There are three types of characters in the Japanese language: hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Hiragana is used for basic writing. Katakana looks similar to hiragana, but is slightly different in function. Kanji was originally invented in ancient China from …
