Hello everyone! My name is Miku. I was born in Hawaii and raised in Japan. I graduated from Dokkyo university in Saitama, Japan, and majored in hospitality and tourism. I moved to Hawaii two years ago and currently work for American Airlines as a flight attendant.

I can help you with conversation, grammar, and pronunciation. I like to use a textbook that you usually use, but I am flexible. We can work on specific grammar points, vocabulary building, role playing, pronunciation, and plenty of exercises to improve your listening and speaking skills.

I try my best to keep the classes as relaxed as possible so that you can feel comfortable speaking and can learn at the pace you want with me.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me and PLEASE sent me a message before booking lessons. I'm flight attendant so my schedule varies from day to day.

Hope to see you soon!

I am a Japanese native speaker who has a deep interest in helping students learn Japanese and learn how to be successful in Japanese society. I lived in Japan until this past year and worked as a civil servant for seven years. During that time, I helped JET Program workers from America learn how to talk with their bosses and co-workers. This means I can help you learn smooth business Japanese as well as more casual language. In Japan and in the US, I frequently advise LGBTQ students and students of color about Japanese culture and how to adjust to Japanese society. Both Japanese language and culture can be tough--but I will work with you to help you succeed and achieve your goals!

My favorite aspect of tutoring is tailoring my lessons to YOUR needs and desires. If you would like anime, but need more speaking practice, I can come up with role-play situations that will allow you to talk about your interests. If you like Japanese culture and want to read more high-level texts, we can ...

Aki has earned my highest recommendation. She provides weekly Japanese language and culture online tutoring to my 14-year-old son. She engages him fully, providing a rich multi-media experience utilizing video chat and whiteboarding effectively to simultaneously teach the spoken and written language (Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji). He is excited at the prospect of each new lesson and is learning quickly.

Aki is the best Japanese teacher that I have ever had! Aki plans lessons that exactly match the things I need to learn, so it is very efficient for me. She is especially good at explaining difficult grammar points in a very clear manner. She has really helped me improve in reading, writing and speaking. I am very grateful to her and strongly recommend her to other students.

As a native Japanese speaker, who has spent the last 30 years in the United States, I understand the structural and grammatical differences in the two languages. This gives me both the teacher’s and the student’s perspectives, which I find valuable as a language instructor.

I have taught Japanese to college students and adults, using beginning Japanese textbooks, and I am most comfortable teaching high school/college students and adults.
I can also teach conversational Japanese and/or customize the lesson to meet each student’s particular goals and needs.

Send me a message to find out if we are a good match!

I have been working with her on and off for over a year. She's been a fantastic tutor. She willing and able to adapt her tutoring to specific needs and flexible in terms of how and when to meet. Recently I traveled to Japan and I was able to function in simple conversations which was what I needed and the trip went well. She has a good sense of humor and does not take herself too seriously. I definitely recommend her and will continue to use her.

"Masaki fosters a learning environment where he takes all of the hard work of learning a new language transforms it into fun. He has a bright personality, and the ability to not only translate the language, but the language in the context of the culture. He doesn't just teach you to speak Japanese, but how to be Japanese!

Talking to Masaki you would never know that English was not one of his native languages... I'm still shocked that he didn't begin learning until he was already an adult!

If you are wanting to learn Japanese, or if you are Japanese and you want to become as a native English speaker, you have found your guy!"

"My experience with Clare has been great! Clare is extremely comfortable with Japanese and is just all around excellent at guiding me through lessons. She is extremely patient and absolutely willing to take it slow and focus on my own personal language goals with me. She's able to adapt and help me regardless of my progress moving faster or slower any given lesson. I don't feel any pressure, she is friendly and approachable, and her understanding of Japanese is thorough. She's an excellent teacher. If you plan to learn just how to speak, read, or write, or if you need a tutor to help with the studies you've already begun, Clare has you covered. Highly recommended."

"Mona knows what she's doing and is very kind. Not only are the links that she sends you during the lesson helpful but she explains when you'd use the words and helps you understand the appropriate situations for when you use them. She is very friendly and a wonderful teacher that will listen to your questions and answer them and her answers are never halfhearted. I completely would recommend her as a Japanese tutor/Instructor if you wish to learn how to speak and write Japanese while still having that relaxing environment."
