I grew up speaking both Japanese and English at home and understand the difficulty of trying to juggle both languages! Whether you want to learn a new language, or simply want to brush up on your Japanese skills, I am always happy to be of help! Lessons will include reading, writing, listening, and speaking (both formal and colloquial styles). I typically use the Genki and Tobira books and also like to introduce students to classic and modern Japanese literature as a way to enhance the students’ cultural knowledge. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

About Mona
I'm an active flutist and Japanese enthusiast currently living in Seattle, WA! I hold degrees in Flute Performance from New England Conservatory and the University of Washington, and will continue my studies on Fulbright at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland this fall. I believe that learning music should be fun and inspiring, but that 95% of artistry is simply hard work! I therefore create a positive and encouraging environment for all of my students, while still setting challenging goals. Additionally, I tailor my teaching to fit each student’s needs so that learning potential can be maximized. Stylistic choices in musical expression/phrasing are encouraged through the incorporation of music theory, music history, and ear training skills into lessons. I also believe that body awareness is important, and will include stretches and
practice methods into each lesson, so students can practice efficiently and prevent injuries!

I grew up speaking both Japanese and English and welcome beginning Japanese students! Students and I work out of the Genki I, Genki II, and the Tobira textbooks. Japanese lessons focus on reading, writing, and speaking standard Japanese at the conversational level.

I am a native Japanese speaker with a Japanese teaching credential. All ages and levels are welcomed! Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. I am also qualified to tutor graduate students (Master’s and PhD) doing their thesis.
I believe when we learn other languages, it is important to learn their culture, history, etc. for better understanding. I’ve learned Japanese drums, how to wear Kimono, Tea and flower ceremonies so that we can explore Japanese culture more than just learning the language!

Bio:
I have been in love with language my whole life. This led to learning and studying English for the past 30 years. In learning English I rediscovered my love of Japanese language as well. I would like to share my enthusiasm for Japanese language with you.

I grew up in a family in which everyone was a t
eacher including my grandmothers, grandfather, aunts, uncle, and my parents. My family inspired me to become an educator as well where I would have the chance to make a difference in students' educational, social, and emotional well-being. I earned my teaching credential from Kochi Women's University in Japan and a Master's in Intercultural communication from Kobe University, Japan.

During graduate school days, I worked as a tutor for international Master's and PhD students to assist them on their theses in Japanese. After I moved to Los Angeles, I started my career in the corporate world, and have worked in the US, Canada and Japan for last 15 years. In Canada, I taught Classic Japanese and Chinese Poetry at Toronto Japanese School as a high school teacher.

The best instructor I have ever had in my life.

As it states on her profile, she is well-versed in all levels of Japanese language and culture. She is extremely good at developing a lesson plan specific to each student's needs, and can use a wide variety of media to help each student - again, depending on what each student would like to do. Whether you want to learn how to speak for a trip, or how to navigate the Japanese business environment at a fluent and competent level, she will have the best instruction. To say that she is adaptive is an understatement. You will absolutely come out of every class feeling that you have learned something meaningful and useful towards your language goals. Jessie will work with you to develop a schedule that will work with your life outside of class, and is extremely easy to work with regarding schedule changes.

Jessie managed to get me from a beginner level, to just starting on N2 material, in a shorter time than I could have imagined. She has an extremely high level of motivation and excitement that shows through in every lesson.

I highly recommend Jessie for any level due to her adaptability, high skill level, and wide span of knowledge.

Hi, I’ve taught Japanese since 2002 and I’ve always enjoyed teaching and interacting with students. I have taught American adults and college students for over 5 years now. Teaching Japanese to American military personnel and spouses who were stationed in Japan was the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. They truly needed the language skills to live in Japan, and they really appreciated that they were able to learn survival Japanese that’s instantly useful out in town.

I grew up in Japan and came to US to go to college. Since I was a college student, I taught Japanese to middle and high school students during summer in Japan. I have a Master of Education in TESL. Yes, I used to teach English more vigorously, but I found teaching Japanese more rewarding. I teach all levels including those who are starting out and also want to improve their fluency and understand the culture and history!
I’m looking forward to working with whoever is interested in my language :) Thank you!!

About Ai
I started my teaching career when I was a college student. In Japan, I taught both English and Japanese to middle and high school students at a private academy. I have also taught Japanese to adults especially the spouses stationed in Japan and also at community college. I have the Master of Education in TESL; therefore, I’ve taught English more vigorously, but know what it takes to be successful at second language acquisition. I really find it rewarding to teach those who are interested in Japanese language and culture.

I like to get to know your learning styles and what motivates you. I will cater to your needs and make your own lesson plan just for you.

I love teaching and discovering my own culture through the eyes of the students. I love to meet new people and just love the people who want to learn a foreign language. It gives y
ou an opportunity to widen your view of the world!

I’ve also played the piano since I was 3 years old and have the Yamaha certification; therefore, I teach piano too. I also love to play!!

Hi, I'm Chieko. I'm Japanese and living in California but go back and forth between here and Tokyo. So I know the trend of Japan well. Furthermore, I have long working experience as manager in some major international companies in Japan. So I can help you communicate with Japanese workers using natural and effective language. I know the business custom is very different between countries and Japan's one is a little complicated.. So, if you'd like to get along with Japanese, please ask me what to do in a situation you encounter.
I have successfully passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test authorized by the Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language in October 2016.

About Chieko
I am a native Japanese speaker. I'm now living in the USA but also in Japan and go back and forth here and Tokyo. So I know the Japanese trend well from comics to business.
I have long working experience as engineering manager at some major international companies in japan. I know it is difficult for you to communicate with Japanese workers because there are a lot of business custom differences between Japan and other countries. If you feel something wrong in your communication with Japanese, please let me know it. I believe I can give you some tips on each specific situation.
I have the teaching credential of general science for middle and high school students certified by the Japanese University and I have successfully passed the Japanese language Teaching Competency Test authorized by the Society for Teaching Japanese as a Foreign La

Regarding the textbooks, I will adjust the textbooks and materials used in my lessons according to the student's level, requirements and goals. I have many textbooks and workbooks for the Japanese language learners which I bought in Japan recently. They include textbooks for the Japanese language proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 -N5.

We can focus on all four skills; speaking, listening, reading, and writing, but if a student would like to focus on only speaking, we can certainly do that as well. We also talk about cultural aspects of Japan and cover the vocabularies related to the cultural aspects.

About Emi
Hello, my name is Emi. I was born in Nagano prefecture and raised in Saitama prefecture. After graduating from college in Tokyo, I moved to the U.S. and have been teaching Japanese at public middle schools as well as colleges for almost 30 years. My hobbies are practicing musical instruments and traveling. Especially, I love drumming with Japanese Taiko drum and Brazilian Samba drum. Additionally, I have been organizing summer trips and taking people who are interested in Japanese culture to Tokyo and other cities during summer for the last 10 years.

I have done the background check through AISD public school system, as well as updating through Sently Link in June 2019.

Sensei seems to really enjoy teaching. As both a native speaker and a longtime resident of the US, she is able to bridge the cultures in a way that many instructors would not be able to. I have been studying with her for over six months - both in a private and college setting - and I feel that I would be hard pressed to find a better teacher. In a college setting, she is very strict and covers a lot of material in a short period of time, and those who take her courses must be prepared to expend significant time and energy for success, but those who can keep up are well equipped to continue their studies with pretty much any other teacher or course.

Sensei Emi was patient, kind, and very thorough with her teaching. I started from knowing absolutely nothing about Japanese language or culture and now, having completed just 5 hours of lessons with her, I feel I have a solid foundation to build upon. Within our 5 hours we covered numbers, greetings, and almost all of the 46 basic hiragana. She was born and raised in Japan so it was lovely hearing about the culture and society from stories she lived through first hand. As I continue my education in Japanese I hope to return to her and continue to learn more. I highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone learning Japanese at any level.

Emi is the second private tutor that my company has had and she by far has been the best, hands-down. She is professional and experienced but she is also flexible with scheduling which is a necessity for business professionals who travel quite a bit for work.
The homework is not strenuous but is focused and important for success in her lessons. She also teaches at a nice pace but also is willing to work with you if you feel that you are falling behind. You can absolutely tell that Emi cares about her students and their progression with the language no matter their age and experience.

I am a native Japanese speaker and I love teaching! It's a joy for me to teach Japanese to students who are interested in learning about the language. I have been teaching Japanese for over 20 years. I teach students how to speak Japanese as it is spoken in Japan. Japanese is an extremely complicated language where there are many different ways to say one thing depending on the situation. Context plays a big role in Japanese and so does the pitch of each syllable and the flow of an overall sentence. A Japanese speaker may be able to understand a completely inarticulate sentence just based on context and pitch, therefore with poor pitch or flow, that person may assume a foreign language is being spoken and immediately give up on trying to understand. I focus my lessons on how to speak Japanese like a native Japanese speaker, so that a student can go to Japan and converse normally in practical daily life. This means we work a lot on pronunciation and casual conversation, and the student will learn to speak before they read, and to read before they write, as any native speaker of any language does. If the student prefers to focus on learning reading and writing for more artistic ...

Are you looking to read manga? Watch anime or play Japanese video games without subtitles? I can help you get started on your Japanese language learning journey!

I moved to Japan in 2014 where I taught English, tutored Japanese to other foreigners, and did translations & interpretations in an office. I lived there for 5 years and learned how to speak, read, and write Japanese. I currently have an N2 Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) certification -- which means that I'm at a native-like fluency!

I'm currently back in the US now where I help tutor those who are looking to learn Japanese!

About Nic
Hey there! My name is Nic and I absolutely love Japan and its culture. In 2014, I moved to Japan and lived in a rural town where I was quickly made to speak Japanese everyday. I studied Japanese daily and quickly made many great Japanese friends! We talked a lot about Japanese culture, anime, manga, and other daily life topics in Japan.

Before I left Japan, I took the Japanese Language Proficiency Test and passed the N2 level, which means that I am of native-like fluency! I often help tutor and explain Japanese language concepts to those who are interested in learning the language in both a basic or a higher-level capacity. I try my best to explain difficult topics in easy-to-understand ways with both explanations and examples. A lot of those who I have helped in the past have told me that this was incredibly helpful as they can both gra
