I am a senior student and Jesse knew what was needed to develop a course of classwork and homework to enable me to have more fun with the melodious ukulele. I appreciate his clear, concise, and congenial approach — serious, mindful, and leisurely.

Taguchi Sensei has helped improve my Japanese tremendously! Not only is he able to accommodate my sometimes crazy schedule, but he's very patient while learning, will go in-depth on topics I don't quite understand and will provide exercises for me on those topics. He's personal, so we use real-time situations from my life to practice with (describing my day at work, where my cats are, what I ate, etc.)

When I visted Japan this year, I owe it to him that I was able to have the amazing experiences I did. Because of him, I was able to understand the language, the culture, and have the confidence in speaking with locals.

I appriciate all the help and encourgaement that he's provided.
ありがとうございます田口先生!

I am a private tutor of Japanese for all ages, currently from age 7 to middle-age. I love to be a witness when my students suddenly "get" something new we've been working on for a while. Japanese is a fascinating, beautiful, and complicated language, and it's exciting to be a partner in my students' achievements and success!

I have a lot of experience teaching middle school and high school age students--including my own kids, whom I homeschool. My first visit to Japan was a semester study abroad in my senior year of high school, and I've lived there off and on since then. My students receive the benefit of my life experiences there, including preparation for the realities of daily life in Japan--from how to use the public transit, to what to do during a natural disaster.

Along with my on-the-ground experience working in Japan as a translator/interpreter in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, I hold an M.A. in Japanese and N1 (highest level) certification on the Japanese ...

I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.

Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.

Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands.

Do you want to take Japanese lessons with the perfect teacher near you? If yes, then you’ve come to the right place. Private Japanese lessons and classes with a TakeLessons Certified™ teacher - whether in-home, studio, or online - accelerates your progress, increases enjoyment, and improves every student's chances of becoming a fluent user of the Japanese language. Private tutoring makes learning easy, it's more affordable than you might think, and it's the most impactful way to improve your skills for beginner or advanced learners.

Our Japanese tutors work with students of all ages: kids, teenagers, adults, and even seniors. They can teach you the origins of the Japanese language, in addition to the vocabulary, the grammar, the punctuation, the consonants, the vowels, allophones, dialects, sentence structures, variations between Japanese, gender differences, politeness in Japanese culture and its relationship to the Chinese language. Learn about and experience the physical, social, and emotional benefits of learning a foreign language like Japanese.

As a Category 5 language, Japanese is one of the hardest foreign languages to master. It takes up to 88 weeks of deliberate practice to gain General Professional Fluency. A private tutor can help keep you focused, committed, and motivated, not to mention their ability to help you overcome any language hurdles you have trouble with.

Your tutor offers you expert language learning techniques and tips, and helps you develop good practice habits, so that you can maximize your learning experience, and achieve your goals faster. Though learning Japanese is extremely useful while traveling to Japan and Southeast Asia, it also helps with career prospects and with personal relationships. Become a better Japanese speaker, reader, writer, and communicator.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, our private teachers come from a variety of backgrounds, making it easy to find the perfect match for your interest and skill level. We guarantee a personalized experience that will make you glad you took up private lessons. In fact, we are so committed to your happiness that we offer all new customers a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee on your first lesson.

Alternative Foreign Language Lesson Methods:
Japanese Apps and Books

For independent language learners, downloading popular language apps - free and premium - or checking out books from the library are excellent options. They cost less overall than private lessons, and allow you to learn at your own pace, on your own time, and the topics of your own choosing. The downside is that you don't have personal instruction for the times you need to overcome any challenging obstacles. Learning with a partner or a teacher gives you the personal interaction you need to verbally practice and attempt the language.

Japan Travel & Immersion

If you're considering study-abroad programs to Japan, work relocation, international business opportunities, or general travel as a means to learning the language, immersing your self in the origin country and interacting with locals is a surefire way to accelerate your learning. Reading signs, menus, and local newspaper magazines while abroad could expose you to all kinds of spontaneous subjects. Conversing with or having to ask native speakers for directions or recommendations forces you to proactively apply your lessons. The downside is that many students, professionals, and travelers don't feel as confident in taking this approach. Not knowing the basics of the language could backfire on you, and lead to poor decision making. Traveling in countries where English isn't the primary language can be risky if you don't plan ahead. If you learn basic conversation and the most popular phrases for traveling, then you can combine this knowledge with immersion and return home a more fluent speaker.

Japanese Group Classes

Taking small group classes to learn a new language is another good way to acquire basic language skills, immediate feedback, and human interaction. It combines both passive and active learning. A professional instructor leading the class can keep the agenda tight and ensure each student gets the chance to participate, and get their questions answered. It can also be more affordable than private 1-on-1 lessons. Find local group classes near you by doing a quick Google search, or better yet, sign up for TakeLessons Live, the new and affordable way to learn how to speak Japanese and other languages, and to learn how to play musical instruments in small groups of 5-8. You pay a flat monthly or annual fee, and get unlimited access to hundreds of classes online every month. Perfect for beginners.

At TakeLessons, we understand every student is different, and that the best way to learn any language is to try a combination of various learning techniques. Try all of the above, find out what works best for you, and then study hard and smart. It's only a matter of time before you achieve your goals.
