I am highly skilled and qualified to teach all levels of Spanish after having taught high school Spanish for 18 years. With beginning students I begin with pronunciation and greetings, introductions and essential vocabulary and work in conjunction with the textbook they are using to practice and reinforce the concepts presented in the classroom. With the more advanced students we work on conversation, grammar, reading comprehension and refining all elements of the language. I tailor the lesson to fit each student's needs, interests/goals and any textbook they may be using.

About Joan
I have 18 years experience teaching high school Spanish and have lived and worked in Spain. I am a UC Berkeley graduate with a minor in Italian. My passion is the study of foreign languages. I have also studied French and Arabic and am able to understand the difficulties of language learning from both the student and teacher's perspective. I am adept at explaining concepts in a clear and concise manner and targeting the student's specific difficulties. Students have found my tutoring helpful in improving their performance on tests, increasing their ability to comprehend and respond in Spanish and/or developing conversational Spanish when traveling to a Spanish-speaking country. I can provide the student with useful classroom strategies and study skills to make language learning easy and fun at all levels.

I am a credentialed high school Spanish teacher in CA with a masters in education, so I am very familiar with how students learn and adapting to learning styles. I like to build vocab, then use conversation to more organically learn words!

I'm happy to adapt lessons to themes or specific grammar exercise for my students if they wish! Some native speakers may speak well and know a lot of vocab, but they struggle explaining the WHY certain grammar features are the way they are! Just like in English, you need both conversational AND formal knowledge of a language.

About Justin
I have a bachelor of arts in Spanish with a minor in Latin American studies. I've studied abroad in México and Argentina (three months each) and know well the language variances of each. I would love to share both language and teach cross cultural competence to students of all ages. I am a trained, credentialed teacher in California and have experience differentiating lessons and activities for a wide spectrum of learners. I've taught high school classes of Spanish as well as Spanish for spanish-speakers, so my lessons can be used for students who grew up speaking spanish at home, but lack a formal education in the language. I also have a masters in multilingual education from Cal State San Marcos

Excellent first class. Mirian was prepared. She shared her screen and a power point presentation, which was very informative and useful. She was seemingly very relaxed. Her disposition was friendly, yet professional. Smiles and laughter was naturally integrated into the session. Additionally, Mirian appears to be really structured. As a result of the aforementioned sentences, I plan to schedule additional classes with her. To my surprise, I was speaking a little Spanish with her during the first class, as a result of her thoroughness and my interest of course. BONUS: If you are learning a language, the tutor / teacher should encourage you (the student) to speak the language you’re learning during each class. It’s a wonderful characteristic to possess as a tutor / teacher and it will keep you on your toes, if you will.

My first lesson with Mirian was a good introduction. She made me feel comfortable and seems kind yet applies the challenge of pushing me to my limits of learning the Spanish language and utilizing what I already know.

I am looking forward to a productive and good Spanish learning experience with Mirian.

Depending on your current level of proficiency, we will tailor a program for you that will take advantage of your existing skills and reinforce them while at the same time, concentrate on those areas (reading, writing, conversation) that you feel need improvement or will be most useful to you. Some knowledge of grammar is essential but the major emphasis will be made on those skills that you feel you will require most often. We will build on the structural foundations and give you those skills.

About Guillermo
My name is Guillermo Ferrero and I have been teaching since 1989, when while working in Geneva, Switzerland, I had colleagues from many countries around the world. I began teaching English and Spanish to those colleagues who wished to acquire a working knowledge of either language. I helped these co-workers acquire skills in Spanish or English according to their needs as well as some grammatical skills to help them gain proficiency in these languages.
I graduated from the University of Essex in England, in 1979 with a BA in Literature and obtained an MBA from the University of Miami in 1989. As an undergraduate, I studied Art History, philology and World History, which helped me gain broader insights on various cultures, their literature and history. I used these insights together with the skillset acquired in the MBA program to enhance
the scope of subjects I teach, adding skills such as the use of applications like MS Office Suite to offer students a broader range of information.
