Hi.. My name is Matt. I'm a very energetic, friendly, understanding & passionate music coach who has worked with students & clientele throughout the US. Possessing more than 25 years of music training & music industry experience, I've been able to take people's Playing to amazing levels.

In my musical travels I've networked or shared the stage with many famous NW music legends:
1.) Roger Fisher- Heart-2013 Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
2.) 2019 - I'm the Pacific NW Guitarist for Rudy Parris from NBC TV's "The Voice!" - Go Team Blake!
3.) Lynn Sorensen- Paul Rogers/Bad Co/KZOK's Spike & Impalers
4.) Donny Evola - Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche/Foghat
5.) Jeff Kathan- Paul Rogers/Bad Company/Montrose
6.) Doug Mcgrew- Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche Singer/Operation Mindcrime

In fact everyone I've mentioned above are pro all
the way and great guys as well. I"m honored to have played with them.

I challenge my students to view music more than just as a "skill", but also a tool to communicate effectively and to combat life's obstacles.

I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday.

You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.

But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!

I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.

Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...

Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

About Makala
I have loved music as long as I can remember. I know its cliche© to say so, but it's true! :)

For me, having parents of different ethnicity and siblings that were much older than me, I was heavily impacted by the wide variety of music to which my family members listened. The force of this crayon box of rhythms and sounds captivated and affected me so much that it is the key experience that I draw from in making my own music today.

I grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska (a small town in the center of the state) so my only option for entertainment and fun was getting involved in the arts! I started performing at a very young age as both a dancer and a musician. I studied classical ballet, modern dance, hip hop and street dance, and world dance traditions throughout my formative years, which helped me to gain rhythmical fluency. I started my
formal music training when I began to play the cello. From then on, I was hooked on the sound and I immersed myself in music as much as I could; performing, competing, working in as many musical groups and productions as possible (as both a vocalist and cellist), and even teaching.

I moved to Seattle in 2003 to study opera at Cornish College of the arts, only to later change my major to Jazz, and then again to Latin music studies. Since graduating from Cornish in 2007, with my Bachelor of Music degree, I have been actively and diligently working in the local music scene; performing and recording with artists and groups of many different styles. Everything from various Latin genres, to Rock, to R&B/Soul, to Hip Hop, and Jazz. Through my music, I aim to reach out to people of all cultures. I also aim to teach my own students with the hope that they too can discover the same continuous love of music that I have grown to feel (and still am growing to feel) over the years. :)

*** Studio Equipment ***
88 key piano, cello, various percussion instruments, guitars, ukulele, library, computer, lessons are given in a private studio.

*** Specialties ***
As far as voice goes, I teach all genres and styles but I personally specialize in the Latin genres. I teach all aspects of the music; rhythm, harmony, theory. I even teach performance; how to work with a band in real-time communication, song communication (or story telling as I like to call it), and developing ones own personal style. I believe that there is much more to singing than just vocal technique alone, so I believe in teaching musical fundamentals and functions so that my students will not only be considered vocalists, but competent musicians.

DAVID IS AN OUTSTANDING TEACHER IN EVERY RESPECT. HIS KNOWLEDGE OF SPANISH SEEMS EXCELLENT, AND HIS INTEREST IN THIS LANGUAGE IS CLEARLY VERY STRONG. THIS ALLOWS CLOSE ANALYSIS OF SPANISH, AND STANDS AS A SIGNIFICANT BENEFIT TO THE DIDACTIC PROCESS. IN TURN THIS PROMOTES A SPIRIT OF LEARNING IN CLASS WHICH IS INFORMATIVE AND GOOD FUN. FINALLY HIS KNOWLEDGE OF SPANISH/ENGLISH COGNATES AND INDO-EUROPEAN ROOTS IS UNUSUALLY BROAD, WHICH MAKES LEARNING SPANISH WITH HIM EASY AND ENTERTAINING. I BELIEVE DAVID HAS A TRUE VOCATION FOR TEACHING, AND I HOPE I CAN GO ON WITH LESSONS WITH HIM FOR SOME TIME TO COME.

About Amelfi
I graduated from the Open University for Adults (Uapa) where I graduated a degree in foreign languages. Having gone to the University was a wonderful experience since I could see and experience what teaching really includes. I really enjoy not only what I learned but also how those great teachers touched my heart with their way of handling teaching. I try to do the same with my students by putting into practice all the experience I have acquired as a tutor and teacher over time. I like to work in an organized way, always having a lesson plan at hand before teaching, but the student comes first so my technique includes flexibility since every human being is different and therefore learns differently. I take what we call multiple intelligence theory very seriously since that helps me to adapt effectively to the learning system of my student
s. It fills me with great satisfaction to see the needs of my students full so I am always willing to give my best in every meeting with them.

In total I have more than ten years of experience as a teacher and tutor. My mother tongue is Spanish I consider myself totally competent not only with the language but also with the culture to guide those in that field. I studied English as a second language for three years in the Dominican Republic including a teacher training course which successfully trained me as an English teacher to teach children, teenagers and adults whose native language is Spanish. Additionally, I dedicate a large part of my time to volunteer work with deaf people in my community teaching Bible classes for free, I understand that being surrounded with deaf people for more than 7 years has given me the necessary skills to interact with them and guide them in whatever is necessary.

I will always be available to my students when they need it. Feel free to contact me. You can ask me any additional questions you have and I will gladly answer them. Let's get in touch!

Before I took my classes with Nicole, I was unable to pronounce certain words because of my accent. This affected my progress at work. After 12 classes and a lot of practice, I was much more confidant with my speech and pronunciation. Nicole was very professional and knew exactly how to help me improve. She was very flexible when it came to scheduling our online classes. I would defiantly recommend Nicole, she is a great person and an even better teacher.

I have lived in the USA for about 20 years and couldn't recognize the pronunciation mistakes I made on my conversations, all I knew was that conference calls at work were moments of suffering and anxiety for me.
Nicole helped me to understand and correct my mispronunciation. She is an amazing and dedicated teacher with an incredible amount of patience.
After the completion of our classes I received a promotion at work and I attribute it in part to the improvements I made on my speech.
Thanks to Nicole I'm not uneasy any more about conference calls :-)
I highly recommend her!

The reason I looked for accent reduction training was I wanted to improve on my English and people understand my accent better. Our trainings were really helpful. When I started the training, I thought I just needed accent lesson, but during the process, I realized I needed the help for grammar, writing, vocabulary etc. I felt my lesson was comprehensive English not just limited accent lesson. I liked you to record my accent and listened together. I didn't like to hear my voice and accent , but it was great reality check. I also liked the motivation and encouragement from you. Your honesty was really helpful too. The favorite part was having good conversation with you. I recommend Nicole because she can detect our problem and really familiar with the problem of Asian accent. She prepares the lesson well and customize our needs. She will set the goal for you, so it is easy to follow. If you are not sure, I want you to take a test and go over with her. It would be the eye opening.

About Seva
I'm a professor of Spanish at Seattle University and North Seattle College. Languages are my hobby, passion, and profession--I speak seven languages. This often makes it easier for me to cater to my students because I understand the challenges of learning a language!

In 1990, at the age of 23, I moved to California and my Spanish obsession began. By the time I took my first course in Spanish I was nearly fluent — I ended up tutoring my classmates. I took various Spanish language and literature courses at Diablo Valley College (1991-1993) and the University of California, Berkeley (1993-1994). In 1994, I travelled to Mexico as a student and ended up working at the UC Berkeley exchange center, Centro de enseñanza para extranjeros at the Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). In 1995, I taught Spanish at
a language school Instituto Angloamericano. In 2002, I began my MA in Hispanic Studies (Language and Literature) and teaching courses at the University of Washington. Upon completion, I started teaching Spanish at North Seattle College in 2005. At North Seattle College, I have taught regular academic, hybrid online and continuing education classes. Since 2016, I've been teaching Spanish courses at Seattle University. I've lived in Mexico and traveled extensively through Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, and Spain.

Here is a brief testimonial from one of my many students: "This class was amazing. Easily the best class I have ever had. Seva incorporated humor, visual illustrations and personal touches to his class, which allowed me to learn Spanish on a whole new level. I cannot tell you how nervous I was to take Spanish, as it was the only class I have ever failed in high school. Spanish is now my favorite class."

My latest passion is traveling the Camino de Santiago in Spain—I've made the trek twice and anticipate doing it again.

Whether learning Spanish is an academic requirement or your bucket project, I will make this process more enjoyable and productive. I look forward to helping you.

It's fun taking language lessons with Seva, and you learn fast. He strikes the right balance between patience and pushing you, so that your progress is steady and stressless. Also, he is an expert in literature and culture which he constantly brings into the learning of the language. Instead of a lot of boring repetition, Seva emphasizes appreciation of history and culture, which is why I want to learn a foreign language in the first place.
