I have taught grammar to 4th grade students in Washington, DC and Mexico.

About Meagan

Hello, my name is Meagan D., and I have been living in the DC area for about 5 years. I attended Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI. I have my Bachelor's of Science Degree, a Michigan's Provisional Teacher's Certificate, and a Maryland Teacher's Certificate. My major was Mathematics

The teacher is very nice to the student, helps the student in different ways, and explains problem so the student understands their mistake.
Charley
Meagan is very flexible and is a great teacher. She doesn't make the student feel self-conscious about answering wrong, She gently asks the student to explain how they came up with the answer and allows them to correct themselves. If the student doesn't realize their error during the explanation, she explains to the student wherein the equation they made an error. She also repeats the problem areas with the student until they have a full understanding of the process.

I sought Meagan out after my daughter came home with a failing grade in Algebra I. I am very happy with my selection, she is the perfect fit for my daughter. She is very flexible and I appreciate that she doesn't make my daughter feel like her lack of understanding of the subject matter makes her inadequate. I am going to continue hiring Meagan for the duration of the school year, my daughter really likes her and is learning far more than she is from her regular classroom environment.

Private Grammar Lessons Near You

Grammar's like a blueprint that designs the whole structure of language. Without grammar, words on a page would be nonsensical, arranged willy-nilly. The structure of language, grammar, ensures that words and punctuation in sentences are used and arranged in ways that impart meaning with clarity and consistency.

Grammar enables us to use our vocabulary to communicate. Without it, every sentence would simply be a jumble of punctuation, nouns, adjectives, verbs, and other parts of speech. If you or your child struggles to understand the rules of English grammar, then writing a school paper, learning a foreign language, sending an email, or completing a resume cover letter will all prove to be challenging tasks. Studying grammar with a private grammar teacher will get you up to speed and communicating with clarity in no time!

Why It's Important to Get Grammar Help

Understanding and keeping up with grammar lessons will ensure your child is successful in school and reduce the red marks on his or her homework and papers. Grammar's not only essential for clear, precise communication and for academic success, it can also affect the impression you make on others. While it's more acceptable to speak using slang and improper grammar, poor grammar isn't as readily accepted in writing.

Having good grammar skills makes an adult seem much more respectable to potential employers, colleagues, friends, or anyone with whom they communicate. With a grammar tutor, you can learn the proper way to use punctuation and form sentences and paragraphs, when writing a resume, job application cover letter, or corresponding with your colleagues.

Learning English grammar is also essential for anyone interested in studying a foreign language. It's difficult to learn translations and the proper way to equate parts of speech in a foreign language the English words you understand, if you don't know English grammar first. If you understand English grammar, you'll know exactly what to do with direct or indirect pronouns and how to handle noun cases and verb tenses in a foreign language with ease.

The Best Way to Learn English Grammar and What You'll Study in Lessons

There're lots of free grammar classes and tutorials online, but if you or your child needs grammar help, the best way to learn grammar fast is with a private tutor. In private lessons, students receive the kind of personalized instruction and attention that simply isn't possible when watching online tutorials or in a larger class setting. Students overcome personal challenges and learn new grammar rules quickly.

Plus, all private lessons are different; teachers fully customize courses to meet each student's needs. For example, grammar lessons for children differ from grammar classes for adults in terms of teaching methods, learning styles, and content. Working with a private grammar tutor will keep you interested and motivated, while you learn at the pace that's right for you.

Sample Curriculum for Beginner or Elementary and Middle School Grammar

With elementary lessons, your child will be better able to keep up with his or her grammar lessons, improving writing and reading skills. Your teacher might choose to cover the following topics:

  • Parts of speech
  • Forming questions and negative statements
  • Conjunctions and clauses
  • Contractions
  • Verb tenses and moods
  • Sentence parsing

Sample Curriculum for Intermediate or High School Grammar

Intermediate grammar typically coincides with high school study. In these lessons, students learn to handle more complex grammatical structures and punctuation rules. Your grammar teacher might choose to cover the following:

  • Conditionals
  • Quantifiers (fewer vs. less)
  • Gerund vs. infinitive use
  • Passive vs. active voice
  • Homework assistance

Sample Curriculum for Advanced or College Level Grammar

In advanced lessons, students study and examine more subtle grammatical rules or those which remain debated. Lesson content depends on the student's goals and interests, but your teacher might cover the following:

  • Writing within various style guides
  • Modals of deduction
  • The oxford comma
  • Similarities and differences in American, British, Canadian, and Australian English
  • Paper editing and proofreading help

How to Find a Grammar Tutor Near You

If you're ready to improve your grammar or engage grammar help for your child, then you'll need a tutor. Luckily, finding a private grammar teacher on TakeLessons is easy! With a quick search, you'll be directed to a long list of qualified and experienced grammar teachers who offer private lessons to students of all ages and abilities. Before you choose a tutor, be sure to read through several profiles and reviews left by other students.

Most TakeLessons teachers charge rates based on the length and frequency lessons, but the cost of grammar classes varies. With so many teachers to choose from, you'll have no problem finding someone who fits your budget and your learning schedule. Plus, you'll find that investing in private lessons is money well spent, as you or your child improves quickly. After just a few lessons, students might even be ready to pick up their red pens and join the grammar police.
