Languages have always fascinated me. Traveling a lot as a child, I studied French, German, and then Twi when I had a semester studying dance & music in Ghana. The other two constants have been piano and dance. Classical Spanish music is what originally hooked me on the piano and later the world of flamenco ensnared me. For 18 years, I produced the internationally touring Dance on Camera Festival, co-produced by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. I have been published in over 15 publications and also enjoy editing.
I am an orchestral conducting Masters graduate from Mannes College of Music who has been playing piano since the age of 4. I have been teaching beginner and intermediate piano for the past 5 years to students ranging from ages 7 - 65. I teach all types of styles ranging from classical to jazz to pop with everything in-between.
My students can expect to develop a strong and reliable technique while being able to express their musical ideas with a clear and dynamic level of sophistication. It's the stories and emotions that draw people to music, so I do my best to base my teachings around that concept.
I studied jazz trumpet performance at Oberlin Conservatory (Bachelors, '02) and The Juilliard School (Masters '17). I studied Mandarin Chinese at Oberlin College (Bachelors, '02). I lived and worked in Shanghai, China, from 2003 to 2010. I've been teaching music and language lessons for over 15 years and love to help people grow.
Whether you are starting from scratch or have some experience, I can help you get to the next level by giving you specific, methodical steps to work on and practice. I do my best to give students just the right amount of material to practice and study between each lesson, so that they stay motivated while feeling the right level of challenge and consistent improvement.
Fantastic trumpet instructor. JQ is patient, receptive, encouraging—the list goes on. He's helped me go from literally not being able to make a decent note to playing a little shindig on New Year's for my family. Highly recommended. I'm still taking lessons!

I found that J.Q. was a quality tutor. He adapted to what I needed to focus on for Mandarin, which was tones, and as such I was able to improve my foundation. He also has a good knowledge of the language apart from just being fluent, and could answer any question I had. I definitely recommend him.

My 4.5 year old daughter had her first piano lesson with Jingci. I had learned how to play piano when I was a kid, so I could tell Jingci knows how to teach the basic foundation very well. She's firm yet patient and got my daughter to follow her instructions even though her attention span isn't that great at her age.

"I have spent a couple years trying to tackle Hindi. A language that I thought was “impossible” to learn if it wasn’t your native tongue. However, 13 clas
ses with Prajakta and I’m starting to do more than just grasp the language. I have never had such a good experience with a class. She makes things easy to understand, really helps you gain the confidence to speak another language. I will continue to go to Prajakta as long as she will let me. I have gained more confidence to speak to my future in-laws in Hindi as well as watch more movies with less subtitles.
If this is a language you are looking to learn, she is somebody you should let teach you. Because you will make strides in no time."
"Made us feel very comfortable and offered lots of suggestions for things to practice at home. We felt like it was very tailored to what we wanted to learn"
