My name is Katya. I've been teaching Spanish, English and Russian (as a Foreign Language) to adults and children for many years. I am a native Russian speaker, a classical pianist, singer and professional educator. I received my degree in piano performance and pedagogy in 1992, and have been teaching since then. I have lived (and taught) all over the world, and I love what I do.
I speak and write fluently in English and Spanish, but as a native Russian speaker, I had to learn English, Spanish (Portuguese, French, Italian and Mandarin) languages from the ground up, just like my students, so I understand very well the challenges of learning a language. I have structured a specific approach that incorporates tricks and shortcuts. I am a native Russian speaker and love utilizing my knowledge of Russian language, history, and culture to help people to learn Russian language.At my lessons, I have creativity and do my best to build an exciting and interesting learning experience. In practice I utilize interactive teaching methods and activities to motivate students to learn and communicate in a foreign language. I often use visual aids, such as software tools or videos and make students feel that learning a foreign language is fun and interesting. I believe culture is a crucial concept in language teaching, in a certain sense language learning is culture learning. So my lessons always include a basic cultural section where I introduce culture and customs to the students.

Levels taught: beginner, intermediate, advanced.

Russian is my native language, and I can help you with anything from learning the alphabet, to grammar, pronunciation and more advanced skills. In order to make the learning process as informative and interesting as possible, primarily for students, a modern teacher must use additional materials at the lesson. Of course, my materials contain a sufficient amount of learning aids that contribute to a more productive and meaningful assimilation of the new theoretical material. From my experience I can promise you - in a few lessons you will be able to maintain the simplest dialogue and read short stories.

I am a native Russian speaker born and raised in Moscow. I graduated from Moscow Pedagogical University and received my Master's degree in Russian and French Languages and Literature from Portland State University. I have an Oregon teaching license and am certified to teach both French and Russian. Q.: Do you teach bi-weekly lessons?

A.: No, I do not give bi-weekly lessons, and require all of my students to take at least 4 lessons a month to be able to join my studio.

Q.: What happens if I miss a lesson?

A.: My studio policy is that all of my students are required to give me an at least 24-hour notice if they will be missing their lesson for any reason with the exception of illness or family emergencies. It is the student's responsibility to reschedule the lesson for the same week, or their lesson time will be charged in full. For illnesses and family emergencies I will require a doctor's note or a short letter explaining the reason behind their absence.
