I am a native Japanese speaker from Tokyo. I have served as an instructor at the Greater Louisville Regional Japanese Saturday School, which provides courses entirely in Japanese. I have helped students prepare for JLPT (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) and the Japan Kanji Aptitude Test (Kanji Kentei). Whether you want to improve your reading or writing skills, or you are simply looking for a conversation partner, let me know!
If you are not sure if Japanese lessons are for you, I recommend signing up for shorter lessons first and then switch to longer lessons if you enjoy it:-) I would love to hear from you. Thank you!

I can be anything from a conversation partner, to a study buddy. I can help with total beginners trying to get the hang of hiragana and katakana, to students memorizing kanji. I am familiar with several levels of formality, so I can provide lessons on casual speech or formal speech.
I also am very familiar with Japan itself, and the culture. So if you're planning a trip or studying abroad, I can help you figure everything out.

Since I had been an exchange student in the US, I had been into learning Japanese culture. This experience made me go to the oldest university in Japan called Ryukoju univ, Kyoto. Kyoto is beautiful. I was always strolling around after school by walk from my home.
If you want to learn the Japanese language with a vibrant and colorful background of Japanese culture, ask me at any time. Let's enjoy discovering the mystery of a different culture!

O genki desu ka?
Hi, I'm Richard, and I can teach you simple Japanese. I graduated from BYU in Japanese and lived as an LDS Missionary in Tokyo for two years in 2003-2005. I love teaching everything that I know in a simple, understandable way. So I can help you learn the basics faster than you would normally. I know what it's like learning in school where you seem to take forever, and don't get very good. I also know what it's like talking to many people in Japan, and learning very quickly, and knowing the difference. I want to help you learn as efficiently and as quickly as possible. I also have a one hour presentation of the basics of Japanese grammar, that basically covers like the first 2 years of college Japanese classes! No joke, it's a powerpoint presentation I've put together that will really give you the "big picture" with the backwards grammar that we try to understand. Ask me any question, and I'll do my best to help you out! Mata ne!
About Richard
My goal is to help students ENJOY the piano by finding ways to make it easier and doable. I have a very useful approach in helping students become self sufficient to sight read very well, to see patterns, understand music theory to either help them play well, or to even create their own music(I co

What Are Japanese Onomatopoeias? An onomatopoeia is a word where meaning is derived from a sound, or when a word sounds like how it looks. In English, we have onomatopoeias like "cock-a-doodle-doo" for the sound a rooster makes, or "crunch" for the act of crushing things. Onomatopoeias are quite common in many, if not all languages. We tend to notice them most in comics as sound effects: zippers "zip" and light switches "click." They're fun to say and they certainly aren't hard to learn. …
