I have a keen understanding of the rules and details of English grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, syntax, and the fine points of good writing. I currently provide homework help to students in grades K-8, but have tutored high school and college students as well.
I am patient, friendly, and a good listener, which means that I teach each student according to his or her own needs and learning style.

About Linda
*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.

I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.

The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs.
Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory, with en emphasis on rock, pop, and folk music. I include arranging, chord theory, and use of the many features of an elec
tronic keyboard, in the lessons.
Bass Guitar: I teach rock, pop, funk, and country music on bass.
Banjo: I teach bluegrass, country, and some blues and rock music. I can also teach a bit of old-timey frailing/clawhammer style.
English and Reading: I am highly qualified, to tutor/teach English (spoken, written, and reading comprehension) to both native English speakers and to those learning it as a second language.
*** I am particularly good at working with children who have a.d.h.d. and other learning disabilities!

One of the methods that I use when teaching my students grammar is that I make them worksheets, with the punctuation missing, and I have them "correct" the work. Grammar, like writing, is about repetition.

About Tamar
Hi families!

A bit of information about myself: I have been tutoring for over seven years and am very familiar with the public and private school systems in Manhattan. I teach everything from Algebra II to American History, specializing in organizational and study skills.

I am a Columbia University graduate. Graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a 3.97 GPA. I currently tutor full-time and also run a music education non-profit, Nvak.

I am meticulous, patient and loving. I invest 100% of my energy in making sure that the kids that I take on are getting the individualized attention they need and that they are becoming more independent and more confident each session.

Please feel free to contact me via the site to let me know, specifically, what the needs of your child are.

Warmly,
Tamar

Tamar is a wonderful, dynamic and enthousiastic teacher and my 12 year old daughter had a great time with her.
Tamar knows when to slow down if her student is tired, but is also demanding so as to be sure that progress are made.
It was a pleasure seeing how fast my daughter improved her English and we both appreciated meeting Tamar, who is a great person :)

Grammar is the foundation of exceptional writing and speaking. I love teaching grammar, because so many students have "a ha!" moments when grammar makes sense! Through fun games and hands-on activities, students will learn all aspects of proper grammar for writing. It will even improve their speaking!

Amy is so great with kids! I originally hired Amy to help my daughter with essay writing, as she was applying for a private high school. Amy quickly zeroed in on my daughter's weak points in writing, and had fun activities to help improve the weak points. I feel that my daughter's writing greatly improved because she went from writing short 2 or 3 paragraph answers to full essays in a few weeks. My daughter loved the writing topics, and was thrilled to begin writing her entrance essay. With Amy's guidance and direction, my daughter wrote an amazing, well organized essay that resulted in my daughter getting into her 1st choice school. We actually kept Amy on beyond the writing tutoring, because she has such a way of breaking down concepts.

We loved having Amy as a tutor! She greatly helped my 7th grader's writing improve. Uma's grades rose a full 10 points after just a few sessions with Amy. To this day, Uma will point out things that Amy taught her during her tutoring sessions. I highly recommend Amy for all Language Arts tutoring. She is amazing with kids!

I've been teaching grammar for 2 years as an ESL teacher. I try to make grammar learning fun for my students by creating games that use the grammar being taught. I also do informal assessment with creative writing exercises that use the same grammar being taught.

About Regina
I'm an ESL at an adult school and currently an MA student. I graduated with a BA in Education from Seton Hall University. I worked with various age groups while earning my Bachelor's. I did four internships in different public schools in grades K-12 as well as student taught in a K-5 setting. I also have a lot of experience teaching adults. The subjects I teach are ESL and Music. Both of these subjects are my favorite to teach because they are very unique and fun to do. I enjoy it when my students are excited to learn and find new talents within themselves that they never knew they had. Some of the hobbies I like to do outside of teaching are crochet, learning new languages such as Spanish, Japanese, and Korean.
