It is truly unfortunate that so often music theory is presented as a mere collection of naming systems and rules. To me, understanding music with the mind is a key ingredient to becoming an effective and inspired artist. In music lessons, I teach not just how to talk about music but the fascinating complexity of how music operates -- the fundamental principles that illuminate the translation of sound into thoughts and emotional expression.

I offer instruction on a range of topics: composition, improvisation, theory, ear training, arranging, piano performance and more. While providing a broad, synergistic foundation in musical skills and understanding, I also encourage students to pursue their unique interests and inspirations. On the first lesson with a new student, I'll always go over the options for potential areas of study and work with the student to develop an appropriate course of study customized to their needs and interests. For information on the other areas of study that I ...

I am coming to the cello as a brand new beginner. I have play around with some fretted instruments, ukulele, banjo, etc. But Irina was super at getting me relaxed, focused on basics and encouraging me with small, but important mechanics and technical details. I have taken other music lessons like sax, so could compare. I totally enjoyed the start of my cello training.
Oh, btw, I'm retired and over 65!!!

She spoke only Spanish to my 6yr old son the whole time and yet made him comfortable with lots of games and activities that gave him opportunity to show her what he already knows and learn some new words and syntax at the same time! "Sensei seems to really enjoy teaching. As both a native speaker and a longtime resident of the US, she is able to bridge the cultures in a way that many instructors would not be able to. I have been studying with her for over six months - both in a private and college setting - and I feel that I would be hard pressed to find a better teacher. In a college setting, she is very strict and covers a lot of material in a short period of time, and those who take her courses must be prepared to expend significant time and energy for success, but those who can keep up are well equipped to continue their studies with pretty much any other teacher or course."

Learn German Grammar: Guide to Masculine, Feminine, and Neutral Nouns

Learn German grammar with this helpful guide to forming masculine, feminine, and neutral nouns from German teacher Tyler S... While terminology like “grammatical gender” may sound daunting, don’t let that deter you from being able to learn German grammar. With a lit …
