My name is Sam (short for Samantha). I'm from England but have been living and teaching in the USA since 2014 where I studied for my MA in German Studies at the University of Florida. I started learning German in school at 14 so I know what it's like to learn this language as well as teaching it. I perfected my German skills by studying German as my major at undergrad, studying in Düsseldorf plus living and working in Berlin. I have a huge love for all things German and want to pass that on to you. German can be a tough language to learn but it really is rewarding. I consider myself to be an approachable teacher who will always strive to steer your lessons to cover things that interest you personally.
For the last few months I've been writing in-depth lesson plans for the digital curriculum company, Shmoop, on their new German program.
At UF I taught intensive beginners German to a range of students. They went from complete beginners to being at a high enough level to study abroad in only two semesters. Courses were taught both in classroom and online.
Sam was very interactive and very nice. She makes sure everything is understood and doesn't mind repeating herself.
star wars is my favorite
First lesson experience was right at my level. This is exactly what I needed from on one lessons and think Sam is perfect for being my teacher. Ich spreche etwas Deutsch. It's hard to start right at your level in a group or wirh someone who is not as flexible. I have homework that is tuned to deficiencies I know I want to work on, and she picked that up. So excited to have found her. She also has great cultural knowledge and is adaptive in her style. This is absolutely teriffic. :)+ Read More
I will try my very best to remember
She really helps you even if you know only a tiny bit
Sam considers my personal learning style with each lesson, bringing in content and tools which I find more engaging. My understanding of German grammar and vocabulary is already substantially better than it was just 5 weeks ago. I highly recommend lessons with Sam to anyone interested in the German language!+ Read More

thank you Sam
Frau Green was my German Language & Culture instructor for two semesters in a row. Purposefully arranged the other classes in my schedule the second semester so I could take Frau Green's section again. This was a 5 day-a-week class at 9:35am and without Frau Green I'm positive it would've been miserable. She brings a lot of energy to her lessons, is very understanding and attentive of where the class is at, and also brings a lot of personal experience to her lessons. Learning a foreign language from a non-native speaker has a lot of benefits because the language was at one point foreign to them as well so they are much more likely to understand what things are difficult to learn. 10 out of 10 would recommend.+ Read More
Sam is really flexible with her schedule, which is very nice. She is also very good at making sure that you have all of the basics that you need laid out to make sure that you can learn as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Sam was an absolutely amazing German instructor. I had her for German 1 at the University of Florida. She is very well organized and does an incredible job reviewing material in new ways so that it doesn't feel repetitive but you still get the repetition needed to cement a new language in your mind. Other than her superior skills and qualifications as an instructor, she is truly blast to be around, always positive, welcoming and therefore creates a comfortable atmosphere. She is also very patient, never making anyone in class feel incompetent, and gentling guiding them to proper responses and pronunciation. Highly recommended!+ Read More
Sam Green was my instructor for Beginning Intensive German 1 & 2. With such a concentrated and rigorous course, Sam made sure we did not feel overwhelmed by the workload and had time to focus on every topic. She even went out of her way to meet with students outside of class to help answer any questions. Sam is relatable and quirky, which makes her extremely approachable. She is very welcoming and really cares about her student’s success. I have been a witness to her constant kindness and dedication as Sam has helped me throughout my undergraduate German courses. She has even given me advice and assistance with my plans for my graduate studies. I have been very fortunate to find a teacher and role model like Sam, and i know all her future students will also consider themselves lucky. German is a very difficult language to learn, but having a teacher like Frau Green made it a bit easier and a lot more fun!+ Read More
Frau Green was my teacher for Beginning Intensive German during my first semester of college, and she was absolutely fantastic. She always made sure everyone in our class thoroughly understood what we were working on before moving on to another subject. She was always quick to find our mistakes and help us fix them. Her teaching style made difficult subjects seem simple. As someone who was recently a student herself, she relates well to her students, acting as both teacher and friend. I felt well-prepared for my next German class after having her as a teacher.+ Read More
I took an introduction to German course during my first semester at the University of Florida - having grown up speaking German at home I decided to take this class in order to brush up on my communication skills and learn the "correct" way of speaking. Thanks to Sam I have dramatically improved my written and oral communication in German, as well as vastly improved my confidence with reading the language in literature. She has inspired me personally and professionally, such a wonderful person to call a mentor and friend, thank you Sam!+ Read More
Before I took German with Frau Green, I knew next to nothing about the German language despite having a heavy background of German ancestry. My goal was to display decent proficiency in the German language to be able to converse with my grandmother.
I had a wonderful learning experience with Frau Green. I certainly achieved my goal and learned more than I thought imaginable in three short months. Frau Green was the main proponent of the quality, in-depth learning I received, as she truly cares about and fosters a love of German in her students. She makes the course material relatable and exciting even though the basic fundamentals of German could feel overwhelming at times. As a non-native spearker, she understood the frustrations of the density of German and was able to teach in a way that put students at ease. I would take her again to continue learning the language. One of my favorite instructors of undergrad, Frau Green is truly fantastic and I would highly recommend her to anyone!
After years of struggling to learn German on my own, I decided to take an actual German course. I wasn’t very confident that I would be able to learn the language or that I would feel comfortable speaking it either. However, once I was in Frau Green’s class for just one week I was already feeling comfortable and learning so much.
As a perfectionist, I always had a ton of questions. No matter what my concerns were, Frau Green would try as best she could to help answer my questions and provide me with further understanding. I became very comfortable speaking German with her and eventually with others as I traveled over to Germany to study abroad. Even then, I would still message Frau Green with questions which she always answered as best she could.
Although I wish that I could take more courses with her, Frau Green helped me create a solid foundation in the German language and continued to be helpful even after my course ended. Her friendly personality and passion for the German language and culture make each of her students feel comfortable and excited to learn the language!
