Whether you want to improve your reading or writing skills, or you are simply looking for a conversation partner, let me know!

About Hiromi
I am a student at Ball State University, pursuing a Doctor of Arts degree in piano performance under the guidance of Dr. Robert Palmer. As a teaching assistant throughout my graduate studies, I have worked as an accompanist and taught ear training, group piano, and private piano lessons. Prior to Ball State University, I studied at the University of Kentucky and Ohio State University where I earned Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees in piano performance, respectively. Hiromi is wonderful. This was my 13 year old son's first lesson on piano, and Hiromi tailor made the lesson to fit his level of experience. He was able to improv and experiment with the keyboard, and Hiromi guided him through perfectly, while then following up with structure. Thanks to Hiromi and a wonderful first lesson. :)

I'm originally from Tokyo, Japan.
I have been in U.S.A for 10 years already, though…
Since I'm a Japanese, bunch of people have asked me to teach and I always helped them when I have time.

I even took a Japanese class to learn how people study the language in college class, I can help people in college class method.
I also have materials that help you to improve writing and reading.
I know reading and writing are tough. But step by step, you definitely master those!

Let's talk what you want to know and why are you interested in the language. Maybe because of Anime? Comic? or even some pop music? I can easily find those media to help you.

Class start from talking about what you like, who you are. Speak as much as you can or write in English then translate it into Japanese.
If you have no clue in writing, I give you materials to study "Hiragana' and "Katakana." if you are already comfortable of those letters, I'll move on to easy "kanji."
We will talk about grammar based ...

Initially I like to evaluate the student's current comprehension level (regardless of years studied) to better select the appropriate starting point. From there, if there is a specific subject matter or course work/syllabus for a class that needs to be followed, I can tailor lessons to fit those needs. Throughout lessons, I like to bring in elements such as cartoons, newspapers, movie clips, etc. to aid in understanding everyday usage & make learning practical and pertinent to the student.

About Kenji Luis
I grew up speaking English, Portuguese & Japanese in a multilingual family and from a young age developed a strong affinity & penchant for languages. I attended an English-Portuguese Bilingual school through 6th grade and studied Japanese 4 years in high school, along with weekend Japanese school classes. In college I went on to major in International Relations & Diplomacy with a concentration in French studies, also honing my Spanish that I had picked up along the way (with Romance Languages, I have a very easy time of language absorption). I've gone on to work for international companies wherein my language skills have been highly sought after, translating & communicating often in all my language strengths.

I studied Japanese for a while at university, but I never really found a comfortable study style or pattern. Working through things with Kenji helped me find that style. Lessons with him seem casual and friendly, but have been immensely effective in advancing my Japanese skills.

Kenji is a nice guy and speaks very slowly and clearly. My only misgiving was with error correction. I am not sure if he could not hear me well do to the connection, but I got the feeling he was not correcting all my mistakes when I spoke. I also would have preferred a more structured class, but I probably should have told him that in the beginning of our session. Otherwise he was a nice guy and spoke Portuguese very well.

I grew up speaking both Japanese and English at home and understand the difficulty of trying to juggle both languages! Whether you want to learn a new language, or simply want to brush up on your Japanese skills, I am always happy to be of help! Lessons will include reading, writing, listening, and speaking (both formal and colloquial styles). I typically use the Genki and Tobira books and also like to introduce students to classic and modern Japanese literature as a way to enhance the students’ cultural knowledge. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

About Mona
I'm an active flutist and Japanese enthusiast living in Boston! I recently graduated from the University of Washington with a flute performance degree and Japanese minor and am now pursuing graduate studies at the New England Conservatory. I believe that learning music should be fun and inspiring, but that 95% of artistry is simply hard work! I, therefore, create a positive and encouraging environment for all of my students, while still setting challenging goals. Additionally, I tailor my teaching to fit each student’s needs so that learning potential can be maximized. Stylistic choices in musical expression/phrasing are encouraged through the incorporation of music theory, music history, and ear training skills into lessons. I also believe that body awareness is important, and will include stretches and practice methods into each lesson,
so students can practice efficiently and prevent injuries!

I grew up speaking both Japanese and English and welcome beginning Japanese students!

Mona knows what she's doing and is very kind. Not only are the links that she sends you during the lesson helpful but she explains when you'd use the words and helps you understand the appropriate situations for when you use them. She is very friendly and a wonderful teacher that will listen to your questions and answer them and her answers are never halfhearted. I completely would recommend her as a Japanese tutor/Instructor if you wish to learn how to speak and write Japanese while still having that relaxing environment.

Hi y'all, my name is Mike and I am a Japanese language speaking professional. By day, I am a mechanical engineer for a small Japanese press machine company in Dayton, Ohio, but by night, I am a Japanese language instructor (with my own blog, known as Simple Gaijin). If you are ready to make the step to learn one of the world's most difficult languages in a fun, supportive way, leave it to the Gaijin!

About Mike
Japanese has always been my passion ever since I was a child. Now I run a small Japanese consulting business (Simple Gaijin) and have now moved into the Japanese language teaching field.

I am a former JET Program ALT (Hokkaido) and English teacher (Chiba), but I've been tutoring Japanese for a little over six years now ever since I was in college. I am functionally fluent in the language, and conduct business in Japanese on a daily basis with my coworkers.

After two years working as a translator/interpreter for a local government office in Kochi, Japan, I moved back to the US last year. Since then, I have been a private tutor of Japanese for all ages, currently from age 7 to mid-40s. I love to be a witness when my students suddenly "get" something new we've been working on for a while. Japanese is a fascinating, beautiful, and complicated language, and it's exciting to be a partner in my students' achievements and success!

I have a lot of experience teaching middle school and high school age students--including my own kids, whom I homeschool. My first visit to Japan was a semester study abroad in my senior year of high school, and I've lived there off and on since then. My students receive the benefit of my life experiences there, including preparation for the realities of daily life in Japan--from how to use the public transit, to what to do during a natural disaster.

Our son has always been interested in foreign languages. He began teaching him self Japanese in early 2014. He asked us to help him locate a tutor so he could accelerate his learning. We started working with Claire in late 2016 at the age of 14. It has worked out great! She is patient, professional and organized. She keeps us appraised of his progress. We would highly recommend her for anyone interested in learning how to read write and speak Japanese! Ron and Anne L . , Belchertown , MA

Clare has a perfect balance for a homeschool instructor. Half "strict" teacher and half fun innovator we have found her balance of worksheets/homework along with Youtube videos to watch and Japanese games to play to be just what we need. My boys are 8 and 10. The 10 yr old actually has a learning disability and he does better in Japanese than with some structures in English!!

My experience with Clare has been great! Clare is extremely comfortable with Japanese and is just all around excellent at guiding me through lessons. She is extremely patient and absolutely willing to take it slow and focus on my own personal language goals with me. She's able to adapt and help me regardless of my progress moving faster or slower any given lesson. I don't feel any pressure, she is friendly and approachable, and her understanding of Japanese is thorough. She's an excellent teacher. If you plan to learn just how to speak, read, or write, or if you need a tutor to help with the studies you've already begun, Clare has you covered. Highly recommended.
