Japanese is known as one of the most complicated languages. Learning to speak the language, however, doesn't have to - and shouldn't - be complicated at all! Simplified, structured methods that I use will help you stay the course and accelerate your progress for your personal or professional needs. The ability of not only understanding but also having authentic conversations can be yours!

Having been a teacher of Japanese as a second language certified by the Education Ministry of Japan since the 90's, I've had the privilege of teaching diverse learners in age, nationality, proficiency, and more. As your guide, coach, and partner I will fully customize the program together with you so that you can gain the greatest value of ever minute, every lesson.

During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a president of SUNY Albany Japanese Student Association and also worked as a TA for Japanese 101 classes, and I absolutely love to teach languages! I understand it is often very hard to find a language tutor outside of the spoken community, and I hope to provide you with the opportunity to be exposed to authentic media sources to acquire natural fluency. Japanese and English are polar opposites in many ways.
Sentence structures are upside down. English is written horizontally left to right, but traditional Japanese is written vertically right to left.
Communicating can be difficult when what can be spoken directly in English has to be said in more subtle ways in Japanese, and this miscommunication can cause relationships to break down.

A native of Japan, Maya received Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Tokyo University of the Arts (東京芸術大学). During her violin study at the Tokyo University of the Arts, she earned her music teaching certificate for middle and high schools in Japan (中学校及び高等学校教諭専修免許状).

She finished NY Japan Society’s Japanese language Teacher Training Program (Introductory level) in December 2020.
She is currently finishing up the same program with intermediate level in March 2021.

Maya also has 10 years of experience for tutoring Japanese language, offering private and small group lessons to students of all ages. Her Japanese lessons cover everything from vocabulary and grammar, to culture, custom, and fun conversation of course!
