Ever since I discovered Dragon Ball Z on Toonami back in the early 2000's, I have come to develop a love of all things Japan, specifically anime and J-pop. My experience with learning Japanese started back when I started studying at home with my older brother back in 1999 or so, and then started studying Japanese at college, which culminated in the completion of a minor in Japanese as part of my BA. I have also visited Japan one time to visit my older brother who was teaching English over there at the time. I love Dragon Ball (among many, many other anime) and T.M. Revolution.

こんにちは! I'm a native speaker if Japanese. I've been tutoring Japanese for 10+ years in Japan and the U.S. I love talking about cultures, traveling, hobby, etc. I'd love to hear what your goals are and customize my lessons. :) Let's get started!

About Kyoko

My name is Kyoko. I am a native speaker of Japanese, born and raised in Japan. (As you might guess, my name came from the beautiful city of Kyoto.) When I was in college in Osaka, Japan, I started helping a lot of exchange students with their Japanese. Since then, teaching Japanese has been my

Wow, I want to give ***** 6 Stars! If you are wanting to learn Japanese, then Kyoko is the perfect teacher that anyone could ask for!
I felt embarrassed to seek help to learn Japanese, because after many years of living in Tokyo for my work, I only knew a few small communicating words here and there... arigato, genki etc... and the writing, well that was 'impossible' to read for me!!
Kyoko was very understanding and made me feel completely comfortable about learning the Japanese language from the beginning. At almost 40 years old and trying to push my brain into learning something new, this was challenging and made me nervous at times. But Kyoko is an amazing teacher and when I finished a lesson with her, I was so proud with what I had accomplished and she made me feel empowered and more driven. I can now understand words in hirigana!! It is amazing to me.
I thank Kyoko so much for her help and support with the lessons we had together :) I will do my best.

Kyoko has been an amazing Japanese teacher to my 8 year old daughter. Her lessons are customized to what the student wants or needs to learn. Most importantly she listens and gives great advice for improving your skills. Kyoko is a great teacher who truly cares about your progress. I’ve tried other teachers and my daughter and me like Kyoko the best by far. So much so, she has been my daughter’s teacher for over 3 years.

Kyoko is extremely knowledgeable and is authentically Japanese born and raised in Japan but has lived in the U.S. for awhile now and is natively fluent in English for parents who may not understand Japanese. Her communication and timeliness are amazing! I’d recommend her to any of my friends and family - and have.

Asuka is exceptional. Hard to process how someone as accomplished as she could be this patient. Encouraging and positive. Wonderful teacher.

Asuka, was wonderful. I've been looking forward to learning Japanese for a long time. She is very detailed and patient. Excellent teacher!
Lukas
On behalf of my son who is 15. Before finding Asuka, Lukas had taken voice lessons from several very good teachers (between breaks we would experiment with teachers).
Now with Asuka he feels most comfortable and feels he learns more per lesson with Asuka. More progress with all aspects of voice. She helps prepare for auditions with Broadway vocals and advance on the more serious and challenging Opera selections.
So the actual lessons are great and Asuka is also a charm; engaging and personable. As the parent I very much like she remains a professional singer as her career.
So we are staying with Asuka through the breaks and may even extend into piano lessons as well.
I would recommend Asuka without hesitation.

I am very strong in teaching proper Japanese, including reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji with fun way. Also, casual, informal, practical Japanese too.

Jinko-Sensei is a fantastic teacher! I took her lessons for about two years and in that time I was able to pass JLPT N3. Each lesson is personalized and I learned many new vocabulary, kanji and grammar, in a fun way. I particularly appreciated that as my level increased she spoke to me in almost only Japanese so that I could practice listening and conversing, which was my weakest spot. She is professional, organized and enjoyable to work with. I highly recommend you take her lessons!

Hi, I’ve taught Japanese since 2002 and I’ve always enjoyed teaching and interacting with students. I have taught American adults and college students for over 5 years now. Teaching Japanese to American military personnel and spouses who were stationed in Japan was the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. They truly needed the language skills to live in Japan, and they really appreciated that they were able to learn survival Japanese that’s instantly useful out in town.

I grew up in Japan and came to US to go to college. Since I was a college student, I taught Japanese to middle and high school students during summer in Japan. I have a Master of Education in TESL. Yes, I used to teach English more vigorously, but I found teaching Japanese more rewarding. I teach all levels including those who are starting out and also want to improve their fluency and understand the culture and history!
I’m looking forward to working with whoever is interested in my language :) Thank you!!

"Masaki fosters a learning environment where he takes all of the hard work of learning a new language transforms it into fun. He has a bright personality, and the ability to not only translate the language, but the language in the context of the culture. He doesn't just teach you to speak Japanese, but how to be Japanese!

Talking to Masaki you would never know that English was not one of his native languages... I'm still shocked that he didn't begin learning until he was already an adult!

If you are wanting to learn Japanese, or if you are Japanese and you want to become as a native English speaker, you have found your guy!"

Learn Japanese Through Music: 7 Fun Songs to Sing at Karaoke

Karaoke is a fun activity in any language, but believe it or not, singing karaoke is also a great way to improve your Japanese-language skills. Karaoke, as we know it, actually started in Kobe City, Japan. The word 'karaoke' is a combination of the words kara (from karappo, which means 'empty') and oke (from okesutura, which means 'orchestra'). You may not have realized that you can learn Japanese through music, but karaoke is one of the best ways to practice vocabulary and …
