About Marcelle
In addition to having an MA in English and a JD in law, I have had over 30 years of English teaching experience, mostly at the college level. I've taught a variety of courses and tutored students in a variety of skills, including ESL; composition and grammar; analytical writing and critical thinking; American, British, and world literature; business writing and communications; introductory courses to the American legal system, and legal writing. At present, I'm teaching ESL to international professionals and other adults to help them improve their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. I also help ESL students prepare for the TOEFL and IELTS exams. Throughout my career, I've helped both native and non-native speakers of English improve their language and critical thinking skills. In tutoring, I take a very customized approac
h and use a variety of tested methods and effective materials to address each student's needs.

I like the way how she organized the classes. Marcelle knows which part of my English language needs to improve. She is very flexible in the timing of the classes. I strongly recommended her for whoever wants to improve and refresh their English language. Honestly, she's the best.

I'm three classes in, and so far am very happy with Karen as a tutor. She is a great teacher, very patient, and has a ton of prepared tools and activities to help scaffold learning the material. She is also well versed in the structure of language so we can talk things like articles, reflexive verbs, etc. I love the verb chart! She clearly has a lot of experience and knows what she's doing. I'm excited to learn a ton more from Karen!

I have been teaching French for all age groups (beginning from 3 years old kids to the adult advanced level) for more than 20 years and I am really happy to provide my students with the experience and skills I have acquired for all the years.

I have worked with the kids of all the age groups creating cooperative learning, hands-on and minds-on approach. I also participated in "Write-to-Read" program in California and used these methods to encourage reading/writing at home, parent involvement, and listening/speaking/writing skills. I always try to create an individual approach to every child to develop his/her unique language skills and personal perception.

I am a professionally credentialed and certified teacher from California state and I am happy to share my
experience and my love for French with all students and their families.

Sincerely,

About Julie
I am a professional musician, specializing in traditional American and Irish music and song; I can, however, also teach classical guitar and beginning-intermediate violin. My CD, "American Stranger," has received critical acclaim and I have authored two books on DADGAD guitar for Mel Bay Publications.

I taught myself guitar at the age of thirteen, but took three years of lessons at Washington University, where I also studied English and French. As an adult I became interested in fingerstyle guitar in open tunings, especially DADGAD. I am, however, happy to teach in standard tuning--including basic guitar proficiency, classical guitar, and "folk" guitar.

I have played violin since I was eleven, taking lessons until the age of sixteen and playing in both high school orchestra and the local youth symphony. I later learned to sus
pend much of my classical technique in order to play both old-time and traditional Irish fiddle as authentically as possible; but I still retain my initial training and apply good basic violin technique to my fiddle and (of course) her violin teaching, while tailoring it to the musical idioms of each of students.

I have also studied voice, which again, however, I have never allowed to interfere with my performance of traditional songs--largely because I had developed a traditional approach to the singing of both American southern mountain repertory and traditional Irish song many years before receiving any formal instruction. This training, however, has given me greater insight into how to get the most out of your voice for almost any style.

I also taught myself to play lap dulcimer, basing my approach on the Eastern Kentucky styles associated with Jean Ritchie, Barbara Edwards, and Anne MacFie—that is, primarily using a small dowel stick or noter to sound the melody, and playing counter-melodies for song accompaniments.

My clawhammer banjo-playing is influenced by various Appalachian instrumentalists and accompanists (including Dock Boggs, Clarence Ashley, Hobart Smith, and Lily May Ledford), but my style is also influenced by years of playing with midwestern and southern-style fiddlers.

I welcome students ages 10 or above, and have learned to adapt my teaching style to the individual student, helping each one to make the most of his or her talents and enthusiasms, while emphasizing sound technique and good practice habits.

I loved working with Julie. She considered what my goals were for playing and the playing style I was interested in. She then guided my lesson practice toward those goals, while at the same time making sure I was getting the underlying foundational principles to build upon. I'm off to a good strong start and I'm certain I will continue to build my skills and enjoy playing music for many years.

About Ashli
Hi! My name is Ashli Adams and I have been a professional actress for over 20 years. I have several professional (TV/Film) credits and I have been in over 20 stage plays. In addition to my professional career, I have been studying acting for over 15 years and hold a bachelors degree in theatre acting from The California Institute of the Arts.

I began coaching and directing actors about 10 years ago. I can teach any age (5+) and any experience level, though, having been a child actor myself, I connect especially well with kid and teen actors. My teaching methods are rooted in several different techniques (method, Uta Hagen, Stanislavsky) but overall, my approach is one that immerses the actor in their work fully. Our sessions will engage your mind, body, and spirit with the hopes that you will become a well rounded and captivating arti
st and performer.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I currently work in a field where I educate and guide young individuals with disabilities through their transition from high school to post-secondary training and beyond to the world of work. During my free time, I teach American Sign Language. My background in Sign Language is more of a personal experience - I grew up speaking/using two languages - English and American Sign Language. I have a hearing loss which propelled me to learn sign language at a young age. Now that American Sign Language is recognized as an official language, and more educational institutes are offering Sign Language as a course, I cannot help but become more eager to teach sign language or even tutor those who are currently taking classes. Come and take a class with me! I promise you that I am laid back and patient, but I will help push you to become comfortable w
