I have been teaching saxophone for 15+ years. I enjoy teaching people of all ages, both children and adults, of all levels. I believe in teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but also in finding what makes music special to each student. Lessons should be fun and engaging. I have several students audition into regional bands, and select school ensembles every year. But we also make sure to play some pop tunes and top 40.
Now accepting vaccinated students for in person lessons. I am a musician with an equal passion for performing and teaching. I have taught ages 8-80 at all levels from beginner to advanced. I believe in the importance of teaching a strong core of music fundamentals but I also want to find what mak

I came in with few specific goals aside from becoming a better all-around singer.
Steve initially helped me improve my technique and cultivate a fuller sound using a variety of physicalization exercises. Since, we have progressed through songs he selected that each challenged certain parts of my voice while also highlighting my strengths. We'd keep coming back to songs I struggled with until I developed the desired skill. In that way, each song kind of brought its own lesson.
10 months later, I have a collection of songs I can perform confidently. In this time, we've also spent time on music theory and focusing on new skills I grew interested in improving (like singing with quiet intensity).
Finally, it's also important to note that Steve has always been patient, kind, and supportive. I was nervous before starting singing lessons again, but his gentle though direct feedback put me at ease quickly.

I have had the pleasure of studying trumpet at James Madison University with Jim Kluesner, who was a student of perhaps the greatest trumpet teacher of all time, Vincent Chicowitz. As a student of Jim, my process and pedagogy is based on the teaching of Chicowitz. Most of my experience as a player is in the classical realm, performing with Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. I also have experience playing lead trumpet in a big band and can give good insight and direction if that is the style of playing you are interested in. I am a licensed teacher for k-12 Instrumental Music. I have directed both middle school and high school band programs. I am currently a Doctoral student in Instrumental Conducting at The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford.

Japanese pronunciation can be difficult for beginners, but these tips from Ann Arbor, MI teacher Elaina R. can help you understand some of the basic rules. My mother is Japanese, my father is American, and both of them are bilingual. As such, I grew up bilingual and became aware of accents at an early age.
