Bachelor of Music In Vocal Performance from Jacksonville University
Awarded McClure Music Performance Award from Kahn Foundation
I’m a professional singer with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in vocal performance. I have extensive experience with both musical theatre and Opera but will teach any genre. I was a vocal TA to over 30 students at the University of Illinois and have developed an understanding of how to develop a student’s personal style. I also taught privately in Jacksonville where I received a minor in education. My course credits include italian, German, and French diction, pedagogy, vocal literature, musical theatre history, and opera history and I’ve worked with singers such as Nathan Gunn, Michelle DeYoung, Susan Graham, and Jerold Siena in order to develop my unique perspective and Style as a singer and educator.
I believe that anyone can learn to sing if they apply the principles of classical technique and practice good breath support/healthy tone production. I also believe it’s very important to apply the principles of characterization to any genre. Understanding and interpreting the lyrics/text is essen
Michaela demonstrates exercises very well and helps you understand how singing works from different aspects - how it mechanically works and how you feel different notes and vowels. I could feel improvement very early in my lessons. Michaela can definitely help you learn how to broaden your range and have a rich sound while maintaining healthy voice/vocal cords.

Lessons with me means we will be learning and having fun at the same time! I personalize each lesson for a specific student's needs and learning abilities. Whether your student is a visual learner, auditory learner, or a kinesthetic learner, I will help your student play comfortably and confidently. I have been teaching ages 5-18 for over 10 years and I love it! I use games, puzzles, online interactive games, and prizes to help the student's learn Music Theory along with playing the Piano and Harp. I want my students to love music as much as I do.
I hope to see you in class!!

I typically use Garage Band and have a professional recording mic, plus access to the best engineers and studios in the Twin Cities. We can get the material ready and do the preliminary work and record some great takes!
**Several of my students like to post on Sound Cloud, You Tube and upload into their individual social media to acquire more fans and promote their shows!
Here are a few great tips to create your best recording, enjoy!
1. Make sure the singer is well rehearsed, physically comfortable, and under no psychological pressure. Most singers perform best standing up in a room that has a comfortable but not over-warm temperature. If they are distracted by other members of the band or by hangers-on, send everyone but the engineer (and producer, if you have one) out of the studio.
2. Take time to get the vocalist's headphone mix right, and give them a little reverb to help them sing more confidently. If you can rig up a system which allows vocalists to adjust their ...

Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.
Thomas has studied piano for 15 years, and continues to play regularly. His education has included courses specifically on musical instruction methodologies, and he has been trained as a pianist at the collegiate level.

I also like that he is helping me with ear training. I've had previous experience with reading music, but he is really expanding my horizons with listening to music and trying to figure it out by using basic principles. This is a way to learn that I hadn't experience before in guitar lessons in the past, and I think it's a great way to learn.
I'm looking forward to many more lessons to come. This has really helped me to enjoy playing the guitar again!
My teen daughter has been wanting to take guitar lessons for the last 3 years. Looking over Mr. Russo’s extensive qualifications, gave me pose in hiring him, after all she was so new she did not even know how to old a guitar, I figured he would be over kill. That plus the fact that he seems to tour a lot made me concerned that, once the pandemic receded he would be back to touring extensively, leaving us to find another teacher. I am glad I decided not to let my fear guide my decision because, he really is an excellent teacher. He put my teen who is people shy at rest, now you cannot tell her she is not the next Joni Mitchelle in the making. One of her favorite things to do after each of her lessons, is to FaceTime me(she is in boarding school) and enthusiastically show me what she is learning.

Bachelor Of Music Magna Cum Laude from Berklee School Of Music
A stringed musical instrument that has a number of individual strings running at an angle to its soundboard; the strings are plucked with the fingers. Harps have been known since antiquity in Asia, Africa and Europe, dating back at least as early as 3500 BC. The instrument had great popularity in Europe during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, where it evolved into a wide range of variants with new technologies, and was disseminated to Europe's colonies, finding particular popularity in Latin America. We will start by learning how to tune, seating and hand/plucking placement. I have an easy to follow technique where you will learn the strings, notes, how to read music, rhythms, plucking techniques, and songs. As the student advances theory and soloing will be incorporated.
Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.
She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.
I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.
