About Lily

I've been sewing since I was 13. I've sewn things over the years such as dresses, pajamas. I do a lot of tailoring things too. I just love to sew, and I love teaching people to sew too!

The way that I teach is to help the student develop their own style. I have students work on their own individual projects that they pick out while asking me questions that they might have while they are doing their project.

However, if they would like there is an option for me to develop lessons for the student on certain sewing techniques that the student could learn. Although, be aware that learning how to sew takes time and that all the techniques of sewing cannot be done all at once.

Then, there is the third option that the lesson could be a mix of the student doing what they want (choosing their own project) and learning some pre-designed

techniques.

My first goal is to give my students all of the tools they need to feel confident from the very first lesson. I would like for all of my students within the first lesson to finish either of two basic projects (pajama pants or a draw string bag).

My lessons are not like videos you may find online. Meaning projects will take longer than you think they will. I will work with you to properly construct a quality finished project without too many frustrations and in a timely manner. I recommend buying lessons in 90 minute packages, since sewing always takes longer than expected.

THE BEGINNER SEWER

In these lessons we will go over the following, which can be adapted to how you want:

- Sewing safety and how to use a machine
- Learn about the sewing tools you'll be using
- How to read, cut out, layout, and follow a basic pattern instructions
- How to pin and sew a seam, finish seams and sew hems
- Learn to sew on an elastic band (to pajamas or for a tote).
- Learn how to unpick your projects when a mistake is made.
- Learn how to do a basic stitch and the gather stitch.
- TAKE AWAY PROJECTS:
- Pajamas
- Sewing Tote
- Basic Dress
- Pillow case

THE INTERMEDIATE SEWER
- Cement what you learned in the while a beginner.
- Learn to hand sew hems etc.
- Learn about different fabrics and when to use them.
- Sew a basic zipper onto clothes or bags.
- Learn about the different foots.
- Learn to do other stitches
-TAKE AWAY PROJECTS
- Intermediate Dresses/ Clothes
- Bags

Whether it is for a hobby, to decorate your house, to prepare for design school, or to make your own clothes, I can teach you from the very basic sewing skills, to more advance topics such as modifying your patterns to make clothes that fit.

About Guifang

I have 10 years of language teaching experience. I have learned eight languages and dialects over the years in China and overseas. I started tutoring Chinese students (age 8-16) English and Chinese in 2009 and I founded my first summer camp in China in 2010. Students who had registered for my summer camp increased from 25 in 2010 to 86 in 2016. I've gained very valuable skills and perspectives in teaching, not just as a teacher, but also as a student--students are my teachers too--I've learned there are always places that I can improve and better help them learn languages. Students' "needs" and "wants" are prioritized. It helps students achieve their goals while combined with students' "lacks" in lesson planning. Students should get involved in the lesson planning process.

Interest is the best teacher. When I taught non-native Chinese

speakers (in China, South Korea and the U.S) Chinese, it seemed it stimulated their curiosity and interest to learn Chinese when cultural elements were introduced--such as characters' origin and visualization, historical contexts and cultural traditions. I hope that approach can also bring you an enjoyable experience learning a new language!

To help you be able to use Chinese, our language learning is mainly through interactive and communicative approaches. Talk! Talk! Talk! Please don't be shy. It's okay to make mistakes. Learning from mistakes is also a very effective way to learn a new language. We can make more contextualized dialogues based on whatever textbook you are using now. Or we can produce functional conversation based on everyday topics that you are interested. Lesson plans are customized and they can be flexible.

Ready to get on the boat and sail on the sea of Chinese? :)

I have been working with Jaqueline for about 8 months now, and can say that she is a very good teacher. She will focus on your strengths and use them to help you learn. She remains flexible to schedule needs and keeps good notes on your progress and what you have learned so far as well as where you are going. I need to learn Portuguese for my work and so she was very focused on keeping my lessons moving from the very basics to ultimately technical terms and meeting conversations. I don't believe I would be productive without her help.

Mitchell C.

North Salt Lake, UT 84054

About Mitchell

I am a student at the University of Utah, studying Health and Kinesiology.
I play ukulele and sing in a band called "The Tempo Squares" in SLC for over 2 years. But my music experience all started when I was 7 years old, with the piano.
I have sang and played a variety of instruments over my life including piano, trombone, drums, bass guitar and I am learning acoustic guitar right now. The ukulele was something I started in high school, and I've loved it ever since I picked it up. I would consider it to be my favorite of all the instruments I know.

I love to perform music, and I love seeing people progress. Anyone can play the ukulele, and I'm here to help you reach your uke goals.

Let's get started!

About Chilo

I'm a first generation American. Growing up in my household we only spoke Spanish, it wasn't until I started going to kindergarten where I was forced to learn English. I understand the struggles of learning a second language and my style of teaching is a practical one, one where you will use what you learn on a daily basis.

I have a 16-month-old son who I am teaching Spanish along with English. I have mentored students in Spanish for the past 10 years and translated for school districts and companies during that time.

When I visit my family in Texas and Mexico we still speak Spanish as the primary language, no Spanglish allowed at my parents house. Some of my interests outside of my Mexican culture including Martial Arts, Computers and Photography.

"I had a couple of sessions with Meriem during the transition between my French 1 and 2 classes. We went over rudimentary things that I didn't get in class
and now everything makes so much sense. Good pronunciation is definitely the key and Meriem knows how to lead you there.
I also really enjoyed the examples she gave based on songs lyrics. That's a great method!"

"This was my first lesson but I really enjoyed learning the different pronunciations and meanings of Spanish words and how they vary depending on where you
