I have had a fairly diverse musical background, including playing with bands and orchestras, as well as participating in choral groups and opera. I have a master's degree in music performance for wind conducting, and a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on piano performance.
I have taught private lessons for several years now and I love every moment with my students! I have a real passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others, both failures and successes. I try to keep my lessons professional but comfortable too. I don't yell at students for messing up or anything like that. I usually have an agenda but am willing to adjust and compromise if the situation dictates. If you don't have a curriculum in mind, I like Alfred's piano courses, but will do my best to find one that fits you as a student best. My initial goals are to make sure the basics of reading music and performing are set so that no matter what musical avenue you want to pursue, you will be successful. I do specialize in classical music but enjoy creating and playing in other genres as well.
I now also offer lessons online, as well as tutoring in most math areas!
***CANCELLATION POLICY***
I kindly ask for 24 hour notice whenever possible if a lesson is going to be missed. Generally speaking, if I don't hear from a student and their lesson time passes I will mark the lesson as missed, but I am also usually more than willing to make up the lesson at a later time.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano keyboard at my home.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to have their own instruments as needed, as well as music paper, pencils, etc. I may be able to provide some of those materials on occasion as well as some books/recordings, but will by and large expect students to purchase those for themselves.
*** Specialties ***
I am much more familiar with classical styles and Broadway. My music writing style tends to be somewhere between neo-classical and avant-garde.

I come from a community that values hard work and family. I hope to teach not only the language of my heritage but also the rich culture of it as well! Although I don't live and dress exactly like some of my Amish relatives, the culture is still part of me in many ways.
The lessons will be mainly focused on vocabulary and phrases for every day interactions and fun culture facts!
(And if I don't know the answer I could probably ask my grandma and she would know) :)

cing what they're learning. It also can create an instant respect or understanding of trust when you communicate in their heart language. Most can speak English very well, but at home and among themselves they still keep the language alive.
So if you are looking to learn the basics before visiting our area and you want to impress and surprise the locals I would love to equip you for that!

About Katie
My name is Katie and I am an ESL teacher. I was raised in the midwest and have lived in 3 different continents. My thirst for adventure and education is what has taken me around the globe.
I wasn't always a teacher by trait. A year abroad volunteering and teaching English quickly became my passion. I quickly knew that was what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to teach English as a second language.
Every country I have traveled to I try to stop in at local schools or centers and lend a helping hand teaching English. I have taught working professionals in China to monks in Cambodia.
All in all, I have taught over 3 years abroad in both private and public schools in the city and in rural China. My class size has ranged from 60+ students to no more than 4 students.
