About Abby
Hi!

I am a certified ESL teacher and academic tutor. I have experience teaching all levels of English, including English for the workplace. I have taught ESL speaking and writing classes at St. John's University; Teachers College, Columbia University; the New Americans Welcome Center; as well as through numerous private organizations. I also tutor students who need help with English/Social Studies/Literature classes, AP English classes, the REGENTS and the SAT.

I hold a BA in Media Studies and an MA in Middle-Eastern Studies. Therefore, if you need any help writing papers in the arts/humanities/history, I would be happy to help out. Prior to working as an ESL teacher, I worked in publishing as a literary assistant/ online editor and had great success editing manuscripts, papers, and even blogs.

As far as teaching is concerned, I
genuinely enjoy helping others and try to make my classes/ sessions as communicative and engaging as possible. Tutoring is a refreshing experience for me since I learn something new from my students each and every day.

Learning is just a matter of perspective; finding new ways to look at and explore the world around you. I look forward to meeting you and exploring together!

Abby is a great teacher. I was lucky to find her on this website. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to improve their language skills. She is very friendly and easy to work with. She let you choose a topic or suggests a topic that you might like it. We have been focusing on my speaking and writing skills. I have made a big progress in just over a year. I highly recommend Abby !

Abby is a really attentive teacher, she has been a big help to English. Besides the weekly lessons, we also worked on some articles for my blog and for my portfolio site. She was really involved and she had a lot of original and creative ideas. Working with her is a surprisingly efficient experience for me. Thanks to her, my English knowledge got better earlier than I expected. In addition, she is a really
caring person, and she always has new ideas about how to improve. She also pays attention for her students personal interests and prepares individual materials for each lesson.

About Simona
I was born and raised in Italy. When I moved to the States in 2005, I barely spoke English.
That's why I decided to start teaching Italian. I know how difficult it is to go to a foreign country and not be able to buy something as simple as bread.

I will send you links, we will read together, watch videos, talk to each other. No need to buy any book with me, I will send you everything.
Italian is a very difficult language, let's have some fun.

Are you ready to learn? Because I am happy to teach you.

Simona is an excellent teacher. As a native speaker, Simona has extensive knowledge of Italian. But she is also well-versed in English grammar and sentence structure. She keeps lessons challenging and fun and is a patient and kind teacher. Simply the best!

Gabriel is an incredible accent teacher. He has his own technique and all I can say is that it REALLY works. I tried other accent coachs before him and always felt some part of the work wasn't fully done. I felt like they were only showing me what I should be doing. That is not the case with Gabriel. He is detail oriented he has a superman ear, he is very good at explaining what is the mistake you are making and how you can correct it, giving precise exercises and techniques to fix it. I have people asking me if I moved to the States when I was 5 when in reality I moved here less than a year ago :) Can't beat that! A part from his professionalism, he is kind, funny, flexible. I totally recommend him!

I've been working with Gabriel on reducing my accent, and my progress over the past month has been terrific! Gabriel's unique methodology is straightforward and effective. He's also very encouraging, patient, and upbeat. Thanks to Gabriel, I was able to understand (and *hear*) the mistakes I've been making for many years (I've been in the US for over 10 years) and to finally get to fixing them. My friends and colleagues have been asking fewer "What did you say?" questions and as I went to networking functions, I was not asked where I was from, which was a sign to me that people did not hear my Eastern European accent. I'll continue working with Gabriel until I sound like those broadcast TV reporters :-), and I am sure that under his guidance I'll be able to do that. Thanks, Gabriel, you are awesome!

Dr. Tem is a wonderful teacher for any age and audience. If you only want to learn to play, then you will be satisfied. However, if you are interested in music as art and a form of expressing one self, you will find this is where Dr. Tem's ability to teach really shines through.

About Justin
I have a bachelor of arts in Spanish with a minor in Latin American studies. I've studied abroad in México and Argentina (three months each) and know well the language variances of each. I would love to share both language and teach cross cultural competence to students of all ages. I am a trained, credentialed teacher in California and have experience differentiating lessons and activities for a wide spectrum of learners. I've taught high school classes of Spanish as well as Spanish for spanish-speakers, so my lessons can be used for students who grew up speaking spanish at home, but lack a formal education in the language. I also have a masters in multilingual education from Cal State San Marcos

I have taught English as a Second Language in China, Oman, and Jordan, as well as tutored international students for three consecutive years. However, my passion is Spanish. Native speakers consistently mistake me for a Spanish national due to my Castilian accent, and I use Spanish as a way to advocate for those who live in the US and do not speak English fluently.
