Unfortunately, yesterday was my last lesson with Mark, as I am moving to Guam. I would definitely not be giving up my weekly lesson with him if that weren't the case! I've learned so much in the short couple months taking lessons from him. I would recommend him to anyone of any skill level. Very helpful and kind. :)

About Erol
***AREAS NORTH OF CENTRAL SANTA CLARITA ARE DIFFICULT TO SERVICE PHYSICALLY/ ADDRESSES WITHIN REMOTE AREAS (no public transit or bicycle access) DIFFICULT TO SERVICE PHYSICALLY***

My style and attitude toward teaching tends to be conversational, reflective, and interactive, along the lines of current research on effective education. I have developed a talent with certain creative arts, such as imaginative writing and electronic music production; as a result, I am computer literate, capable of assisting with computer assembly, maintenance, and design, as well as productivity software. Due to my limited funds, I do not have direct experience with the Adobe suite, but I have extensive knowledge of related, free distributions that are transferable. I also have formal education in the field of English, innovative leadership, and Education.
My current level is ABD in a PhD program that is thus nearing completion. I am member of the Association for Language Learning, located in Leicester, UK.
My most popular subjects are as follows:

American-English Pronunciation Practice for ESL (AEPP-ESL):
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

Carefully following Burkkowsky's (1969) multi-media method, I have taught this subject for over five years for public and private causes, such as library, individuals, and language schools. My emphasis for pronunciation is a scientific, comprehensive overview and treatment of the various sounds, rhythms, inflections, and patterns the spoken language integrates. I encourage practicing and mastering both the sounds themselves, as well as how the sounds are connected and contextualized. I use contemporary sound recording and .wav editing software to involve audio feedback and self-monitoring.

Sources: Burkkowsky, Mitchess (1969) Teaching American Pronunciation to Foreign Students. New York: Warren Green, 1969.

German Language and Culture:
*****Each Online Lesson with Free Video & MP3 Recording*****

I have grown up bilingual English and German, attending an international school from a very young age. I attended, also, a German public secondary school, where I earned a diploma, and I completed college-level German credits. I taught German in the language lab of a community college, for special needs students, and for private agencies, such as Tutor Doctor. My emphasis is on a comparative introduction of the language to draw out a common ground and familiarize possibly daunting differences. I also enjoy asserting that German is often underestimated as a rewarding second language to study.

Microsoft Excel:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

This spreadsheet and data management software program is of crucial, pivotal importance in any business and financial environment. The program enables efficient and prompt development of arithmetic and statistical calculations of vast data sets. It also helps to visualize and juxtapose related or even discrepant variables. My approach to teaching the program is cumulative and holistic, starting with an introduction to personal inventory management to the processing of large data sets using pivot tables, charts, and dashboards. My emphasis is on making the program as intelligible and transparent as possible to avoid frustration and intimidation. I use a lot of examples and visuals that are readily available.

Typing:
***It is recommended students own or have regular access to a personal computer after 2002 in order to get the best benefit***

I teach the touch-typing method that is the convention for most journalistic and input-intensive organizational settings. I teach the home row, proper finger and hand positions, proficiency with left and right hands, as well as posture and concentration methods. I enrich the teaching with resources from the web, such as speed-building and error reduction.

Hey everybody! Hola and Ni Hao. My name is Mark and I'm an Organic Farmer with an International MBA and minors in both Spanish and Mandarin. With over 20 years of foreign language study, and 10 years teaching foreign languages, I know exactly what works and what doesn't when it comes to learning a new language.

I recently moved to Aurora in order to be closer to my family (I recently lived in China, Maui, and Alaska). I have the flexibility to work with you around your schedule and will create a customized lesson plan that fits your needs. I have extensive experience teaching small to large groups as well.

My only requirement of you is I request that my students be committed and dedicated to learning the language they choose for me to tutor. I assign homework every lesson that is very important to continuing the learning expe
rience outside of class.

Hope to talk to you soon!

I just finished 5 lessons with Mark and it was just what I needed to help me improve my speaking skills. He assigned homework each week (the reason I initially chose him) that was based on our lessons. It pushed me to grow. I found him to be quite competent, gentle with correction, and pretty funny. You'll enjoy him!

About Tamari
Hi, there! My name is Tamar; I'm called Tamari, informally, and Tamara for the stage, and I can't wait to meet you!

I've been teaching private lessons for many, many years and have loved helping my students acquire new skills, master new pieces, and prepare for concerts and performances. Over the years, my younger students have earned Blue and Gold ratings at the Young Musicians' Festival in Fairfield U., some of them earning gold cups: This is a statewide event to encourage long-term commitment to the art, discipline and joy of music making.
I went to Indiana University's Jacob School of Music and earned a Masters in Piano Performance, and Composition in the '90's. I sang all types of vocal music as well as prepared singers with vocal coaching and voice development techniques 20+ years.
I'm fun loving, patient, and optimistic-
- these traits carry through in my teaching style,
One Size does NOT fit all--I approach the lesson plans for each student tailored to your learning style.
Over the past 23 years, my life experiences have encompassed other disciplines and compelled me to learn and acquire many other skills: my liberal arts as well as fine arts education lent itself to helping me work administrative jobs and even expanded into sales and public speaking. I have coached after school and SAT preparation to High School and College age students, helped with the preparation of legal and analytical documents, creative writing and editing assignments; and even tutored computer, social media and Microsoft Office & iWork Suite of applications to older adults.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals

About Maria
I, Maria J., graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors College distinction from the University of South Florida, in 2014. I have seven years’ worth of tutoring experience. I have tutored students, at differing abilities and intensities, in Algebra, English, and Latin. I view learning as an accumulative experience. In my sessions, I would have two goals: one, to explain concepts and, two, to provide moments for the students to use this acquired knowledge. I believe that variability in information presentation is important to the overall success of learning. Therefore, I use various methods to convey the same information. My second goal follows closely: I would offer opportunities for students to use what they have learned. Giving them occasion to find the answer before I intercede, helps students realize where their strengths and shortcomings
are. Through a careful balance of teaching and homework, the student’s ability will increase.

I focus on the student. My approach and materials will vary depending on the progress, past experience and interests of the student. I want her or him to want to learn. My hobbies include backpacking, hiking, travel, reading, and language learning.

I am working on my Masters in Secondary English and currently hold an Associates in ECE, this combined with my extensive experience with the AP system and the time that I lived in and attended université in France make me qualified to tutor in these subjects and the satellite subject areas such as diction, study skills, reading and writing. I have experience learning four foreign languages in addition to English. It is my love of the learning process, patience and passion for these subjects, however, that are most efficacious in the tutoring process. Best of luck with your studies!

M. Marie Roche conducted on the campus of U Mass eight seminars--open to all--on two of Shakespeare's history plays, King John and Richard II. Neither play is popular with modern Shakespeare-going audiences. But she accomplished the nearly impossible--making both plays compelling and relevant by her selection of background documents and themes. I hope that TakeLessons can provide an adequate platform for her level of sophistication.

About Ulyana
My name is Ulyana and I'm passionate about teaching and tutoring! I graduated with a B.S. from Rice University (Houston, TX), specializing in earth sciences. During my years there, I traveled quite a bit - including to Antarctica! - and took part in many science outreach activities with young students. While doing a Masters in planetary geoscience at Brown University (Providence, RI), I gained field experience in Iceland and used it as a research analog to past climate conditions on Mars. For my PhD, I trekked over 1500 miles in Nepal, studying glacial lake flooding hazards to Sherpa villages, as well as impacts of pollution on pristine high mountains, including Mt. Everest.

For seven years now, I have either tutored or taught, in classrooms and in the field, all age groups, sharing the joy of science, math - and learning in general! Mos
t recently I worked for National Geographic Student Expeditions, a program for high school students interested in learning photography, film, and field (outdoor) science. During the springtime, I am a visiting professor at Colorado College, teaching at the undergraduate level. My day job includes running my company, Science in the Wild, which gets kids and adults alike outside, learning and doing science around the world while on expedition. Our most recent was to the top of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa.

When I was in my teens, I participated in many science fairs and symposia at the national and international level. Then I went to college and grad school in science. Pretty much, science has been my life! For any of your science needs, with a special focus on astronomy and geology (earth sciences), I'm here to help. I can also assist with physics, biology and chemistry. The sciences are interrelated and I've used them all in the past and in my current work. The same goes for math.

If you're interested in creative lessons - with a true focus on your learning experience, I'm your tutor! Often times when working out in the field in extreme locations (e.g., Antarctica and Mt. Everest), I have to MacGyver solutions on the fly. I want to teach you how to think. This skill will serve you well, long into the future.
