About Beckie
Hi!
My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, and voice.

In 2017, I graduated from UCLA with my Masters in Music on French horn. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with two degrees in music- music performance on French horn and music education.

My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 15 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.

I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and various music studios around Los Angeles.

I currently am a freelance musician, Elementary school music
teacher, brass coach for two local high schools and a private music teacher! I perform with orchestras and groups all around the Los Angeles area. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!

I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!

*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to check in with the student to see how their day was and how practicing throughout the week went. I am very patient and will teach at the student's pace. I expect the student to practice during the week, even if for just 10 minutes a day. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.

For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.

I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)

I also have a 24-hour cancellation/lesson change policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson. Lessons are to be every week as I DO NOT teach bi-weekly lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know! The dog and the cat are put away for the lessons as to not distract either one of us! They are pretty cute!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Outstanding instructor! Beckie is very positive and encouraging and my son has learned so much in just a few weeks. My son looks forward to his session each week. She is also an amazing musician herself and plays her instrument side by side with my son which allows him to hear and learn the individual notes.

~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~
Growing up in the Bay Area, I lived Cupertino & Fremont and attended Stevens Creek Elementary School and Hopkins Junior High School. I am a UCLA graduate in science and math with the second highest honors (Magna Cum Laude, 10-time Dean's Honors List). I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through some UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, English, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken (with scores) include: AP Physics B (5); AP Chemistry (5); AP Biology (5); AP Calculus AB (5); AP Statistics (5); AP US Government & Politics (5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

About Ashli
Hi! My name is Ashli and I have been a professional actress for over 20 years. I have several professional (TV/Film) credits and I have been in over 20 stage plays. In addition to my professional career, I have been studying acting for over 15 years and hold a bachelors degree in theatre acting from The California Institute of the Arts.

I began coaching and directing actors about 10 years ago. I can teach any age (5+) and any experience level, though, having been a child actor myself, I connect especially well with kid and teen actors. My teaching methods are rooted in several different techniques (method, Uta Hagen, Stanislavsky) but overall, my approach is one that immerses the actor in their work fully. Our sessions will engage your mind, body, and spirit with the hopes that you will become a well rounded and captivating artist and
performer.

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

I currently work in a field where I educate and guide young individuals with disabilities through their transition from high school to post-secondary training and beyond to the world of work. During my free time, I teach American Sign Language. My background in Sign Language is more of a personal experience - I grew up speaking/using two languages - English and American Sign Language. I have a hearing loss which propelled me to learn sign language at a young age. Now that American Sign Language is recognized as an official language, and more educational institutes are offering Sign Language as a course, I cannot help but become more eager to teach sign language or even tutor those who are currently taking classes. I have lived in non-English settings for 12 years, living and learning local language and culture, while helping locals learn English. I have a Master's degree in Art Therapy (Art & Psychology bachelor degrees). These studies enabled me to better understand how to listen to people's stories and to listen well so that I could help them from their own context; an important skill in teaching English.

2002-2008 For 5 years in China I taught Art and Physical Education, giving me experience in classroom settings with students from over 16 different countries, all with a native tongue. During my 5th & 6th years in China I worked within the Chinese schools and the sports community, helping tie character values into physical education, while helping students speak basic English.

2008- 2014 I lived in the southern parts of Africa for 6
years, working within the sports community, developing youth to lead well. I was helping local people develop their English speaking skills throughout this time (while I learned their language basics).

Learning another language or developing a second language can be fun! Let's do this together.

About Eirene
My name is Eirene and I love learning languages. I grew up in Canada and the U.S. and have traveled to over 20 countries. Whenever I have some free time, I love to listen to podcasts, chat with my native speaker friends and travel at every opportunity I get. This year, I was in Tanzania, where I studied Swahili for 2 months. Other than studying and teaching language, I also love cooking, drawing and taking walks around the city.

--

My teaching style is very much student-led, teacher-guided. As a teacher, I mold every class to complement my student's preferences and needs. We work on grammar and vocabulary through book materials and exercises but also engaging activities like movies and music.

As a non-native Spanish speaker (Spanish if my 4th language, after French), I hope I can shed light on how Spanish is structured, and how
it works--and also help you meet your Spanish goals, whether it be work, travel or personal.

Feel free to write to me as well with any questions you have. Looking forward to connecting. Chau!

Eirene is a patient and diligent teacher who helped transform my limited knowledge of Spanish--mainly from TV--into practical, everyday skills. She broke down concepts in digestible ways, often referencing French (my other language) so that I could better understand a certain topic or concept. What's more, she also always kept the focus on conversation, which I really appreciated, particularly since that's the area I want to work on most. In short, if you're looking for someone dependable, kind and always rooting for your success, you should look no further than Eirene.

I am a native speaker of Russian language. Twenty years ago, I was offered an opportunity to teach Russian and German languages at a local community college. I fell in love with the art of providing people with abilities to speak and understand previously unknown to them languages. My students came from various paths of life; they all had different reasons for learning the language. I have truly enjoyed the process of their discoveries in the sphere of modern lingos. I was also delighted when my students began to communicate in Russian or German. It is a satisfaction beyond any success. I create an individual learning plan for every student. I also develop my own curriculum to supplement the study materials. I look forward to meeting you in the near future!
