James and I worked together for 4 months at an elementary school tutoring 3-5 graders in math and english. James is professional, intelligent, and creative. It was a pleasure working with him. He cares very much for the youth in our community.
We've stayed in touch via email and are developing a friendship I hope lasts a life time. He is good people.

I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 9 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven very effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success!

Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subje
cts can be attributed to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess a student's shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.

Math:
• Elementary • Pre-Algebra • Algebra 1 & 2 • Geometry • Pre-Calculus
• Trigonometry • AP Calculus • Applied/Business Calculus • Differential Equations

Physics:
• AP Physics 1 & 2 • College Physics

Test Prep:
• SAT I & II • ACT • ISEE • SSAT • HSPT • GRE • and more

Computers:
• MS Word • Excel • PowerPoint • Adobe Acrobat • General Windows/MAC

Mentorship:
• Grade Monitoring • Teacher Collaboration

Executive Functioning:
• Organization • Time Management • Study Skills

• Completely turned around achievement and self-confidence of mentored students
• Track record of student improvement particularly in math and physics

Daniel helped me reinstall core Algebra 2 concepts that I learned the past year within a couple of hours. He helped thoroughly explain concepts that I might have had trouble with, and tried to find different approaches to the problem, so that I could derive the answer. He truly is a caring tutor and person.

I really learned a lot from Daniel. He clearly knows a lot about the topics he tutors in, and knows how to explain it in a way that's easy to understand. His demeanor was calm and is very easy to talk to!

About Jordan
Well Rounded.

That's how I believe every man and woman should become.

Most people put more time in one field and neglect everything else, when they should be efficient in multiple studies.
Being truly brilliant, is being truly knowledgeable overall.

In my life, I gained experience in many different fields and believed that it would be best to share them all with everybody else, and help each individual become someone knowledgeable in many different aspects of life too.
Because you never know, sooner or later, someone may ask for something that only you can help them with!

Jordan was very patient and personable with my son's lesson. It was his first time learning to play his beginner acoustic guitar. Jordan began with the basics, explaining frets, chords, how to pick and precisely tune listening to an online tuner.

The tuning homework exercise was just right for his introduction. He brought along his electric guitar and explained things for us in a way that was easy to understand and pick up. He is looking forward to his lessons.

Lessons would be individualized to focus on areas that need the most guidance.

About Melissa
I have been teaching since 2006 on a variety of topics. I graduated with an BA from the University of Wisconsin. My degree is in History with and emphasis on East Asian history.

I've taught all age groups from age 2 up to retirees. My teaching experience includes one-on-one and group classes in a variety of settings. I've taught corporate classes, private lessons, small groups, and traditional classroom lessons.

We have a student-centric philosophy of learning. Lessons are generally relaxed and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. Special focus on topics like music theory, self-accompaniment, composition, song writing, and home recording are available as well.

What are your personal goals? We'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

Lessons with small children are more focused on just having fun while developing a good musical foundation, but we prefer for them to have as much personal ownership of their lesson as possible.

For new students, I will first assign you a small piece of writing so I can get to know your style, writing level, ability, etc. and from there, I will create individualized lessons. I know grammar can be tedious, so I promise to spice it up and make our sessions fun and creative in addition to informative!

About Jillian
We are what we know. Growing up, my mother was an English and grammar teacher. I'd sit with her at the kitchen table while she graded - her red pen a trusty sword shining in the midst of a stack of papers a mile high. She taught me her tricks and tips, her shortcuts and symbols, and as writing became a great passion of mine, I began to realize that tutoring was too.

Throughout high school and during my years as a communication major at Villanova University, I was always that girl with three of my friends' papers wedged into my purse. I was the one in the coffee shop scanning everything from Georgetown essays to Wilde vs. Whitman comparisons to thesis statements on speech pathology.

I am a published author, the winner of the National American Voices award at Carnegie Hall for my play "Lumos," and a judge of the National Scholast
ic Writing Awards.

I love assisting in creating that final product - the freshly printed, mistake-free masterpiece that is black words on a white page. After nearly five years of tutoring writers and editing papers, I decided it was time to go viral and edit for the masses.

The minute Peter Parker donned his red spandex, he became Spiderman. I may not have "spidey senses" or even spandex, but I do have a red pen. And as Red Pen Wench, I will fight off every grammar mistake, battle every boring word choice and conquer the evil that is anything less than a professional piece of prose.

My writing has vastly improved after only a few sessions working with Jillian. Her ability to come up with extremely purposeful exercises coupled with her consistently useful feedback leaves no doubt in my mind that she’s the best tutor/editor you’ll find. She never misses a beat when revising a paper and is great at explaining areas for improvement. I haven’t met anyone with a greater command over a pen and a paper. She’s also easy to work with and no time is wasted during our sessions. As a freshman in high-school, improving my writing is a bigger priority than ever before. As long as I’m working with Jillian, I’m confident that my writing abilities will continue to steadily improve.

I have a passion for English grammar and have so enjoyed teaching it at various grade levels (6-12) over the past four years of my teaching career. I believe in using grammar exercises that are applicable to the student (I.e. In their own writing) as well as using techniques to memorize the many "rules" grammar has and applying them through repetition in sentences. I truly believe grammar can be enjoyable and change the way you look at reading and writing!

About Bridget
My name is Bridget and I was born and raised in Minnesota. My husband and I have a little girl who we just love spending our time with! I attended the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota and graduated with a double major in English and Secondary Education. I have taught the past 4 years ranging from grades 6-12 and have loved all of the nuances that come with each grade level. I have always had a passion for writing and grammar and continued to develop that love during college when I worked with peers on their essay writing. I have worked with all different ability levels and feel as though I can personalize my teaching approach for each student's individual needs. I would love to work with you wherever you are at and help you feel more confident in the work you do!
