About Marsha
And... it is summer. There are lots of things and people we LOVE. I like to focus on those good feelings, and music that uplifts and enriches. We are really working on our OWN music compositions this month.

Goals: Since I am also a Life Coach, we really focus on how to accomplish our hopes and desires. We begin by weekly, then monthly and even a yearly goal.

Each week we also focus on something in my STUDENT PAL - mnemonic. Another is TECHNIQUE. Technique is the ability to have proper position, wrist-lifts and finger curve as well as Theoretic knowledge and application.

I started giving out lickable gold stars, you know, the old-fashioned kind? They are for those students who mark their lesson sheet and come prepared... They really seem to enjoy that, and I adore the nostalgia!

It is a great week when students are
nearly all prepared and ready for their lessons. This makes both Coach and student more effective and the time together more enjoyable.

Perhaps you are reading this with both a little excitement and a little concern. Finding the right person for your or your student can be intimidating. A short introduction follows so that you know a little about me and my philosophy which can assist you make an informed decision. If we are a good fit, lessons and learning progress more joyfully.

I have been teaching music, performing music and enjoying music since I was a tiny three-year old. My first piano lessons were at age seven. I have since taught the students of former students! How fun is that?

Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Teaching at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music; Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years has been a delight.

I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons, which we revisit monthly. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them/you to accomplish the goals set, working with music that delights and educates.

You want the best teacher, who offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's own "voice" (whether playing or singing) so that they can be free to create their own style.

*** Lesson Details ***
In our lessons, we work with a predictable schedule of balance. We have weekly exercises to make strong fingers and or voices, and technique and theory practice to hone skills that will improve our performances, whether they are for others or for our own benefit. Each student of piano can learn how to create and write their own music in time, choose their own pieces to work on, and have a say in their classical and performance goals.

We have a program of advancement, so you and your loved ones can visually see your progress and measure your skills, complete with awards and trophies.

What you learn, has everything to do with your commitment. Practice doesn't make perfect, Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.

Learning the piano ought to be a JOY. I believe in playing the piano, not 'practicing' it. Enjoy what you do, and you'll do it longer and with celebration instead of duty.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano - upright; CD player; Music stands; Dozens of music books and lesson materials; flash cards; computer and music writing program; mic and mirror, syllabus.

*** Travel Equipment ***
No travel.

*** Specialties ***
Over the years I have dabbled in most methods, but finally come to use my own syllabus and musicianship. I can easily adapt to your favourite if that is your desire. I specialize in a total music education, not merely in learning notes. It is like looking in a mirror and only seeing eyes and skin. Music has many facets and we discover all of them.

Mrs. Jen has been a violin teacher for our daughter for 3.5 years. She is an extremely qualified and talented musician who deeply cares about her students and is committed to teaching. She is kind and patient, but also effective and motivating. When our 8 year old daughter learned Mrs. Jen was moving she said, "I probably will never have as neat or special of a violin teacher as Mrs. Jen"- and she's right!

First lesson was fine. We took a few minutes to find each other in a cafe setting but as it was also a meet and greet session I wasn't too concerned about time. As it turns out Beth more than made up the time. She's very pleasant and easy to speak with. We went over my goals, simple traveler type words, phrases and questions, and a work schedule to cover the next several weeks. Beth told me how she was going to approach teaching me after listening to my goals. I'm looking forward to the next session where we can focus on learning the language.

I think Susan would be a better teacher for a beginner student than for an intermediate student. The voice lessons were still helpful, but she was more of a practice coach than a teacher, for an intermediate/advanced singing student. If you need to learn how to breathe and support your singing, I'd recommend her for starting out, but if you are already a trained singer and looking to improve even more, you'd be better off going to a more specialized expert singing teacher. She was a nice lady and I had fun in her lessons though.

About Guifang
I have more than eight years of language teaching experience. I have learned five languages over the years in China and overseas. I started tutoring Chinese students (age 8-16) English and Chinese when I was 19 and I founded my first summer camp in China when I was 20. Students who had registered for my summer camp increased from 25 in 2010 to 86 in 2016. I've gained very valuable skills and perspectives in teaching, not just as a teacher, but also as a student--students are my teachers too--I've learned there are always places that I can improve and better help them learn languages. Students' "needs" and "wants" are prioritized. It helps students achieve their goals while combined with students' "lacks" in lesson planing. Students should get involved in the lesson planing progress.

Interest is the best teacher. When I taught nonnative
Chinese speakers (in China, South Korea and the U.S) Chinese, it seemed it stimulated their curiosity and interest to learn Chinese when cultural elements were introduced--such as characters' origin and visualization, historical contexts and cultural traditions. I hope that approach can also bring you an enjoyable experience learning a new language!

To help you be able to use Chinese, our language learning is mainly through interactive and communicative approaches. Talk! Talk! Talk! Please don't be shy. It's okay to make mistakes. Learning from mistakes is also a very effective way to learn a new language. We can make more contextualized dialogues based on whatever textbook you are using now. Or we can produce functional conversation based on everyday topics that you are interested. Lesson plans are customized and they can be flexible.

Ready to get on the boat and sail on the sea of Chinese? :)

I recognized Guifang's experience as a language educator immediately. She is patient, concise, and clearly enjoys teaching. Her assistance has been crucial to my developing an efficient learning system. I rely on her for refresh and expand my Chinese language skills biweekly. She has way of conveying the subtleties of fluent pronunciation. I did not expect to make so much progress so quickly. Highly Recommend her services!

To me, there are few things that are more rewarding then seeing someone take on a new idea and make it their own.
I am primarily a musician, working in the city but find that teaching others both the language of music and my native tongue, Spanish, are a fascinating and positive way to give back to my community.
Creativity, honesty, and patience are the pillars I work off of; and I know full well that each person requires something different of me, so I will always work towards tailoring the learning process to you and your needs.

I have been teaching mathematics as an instructor since 2007. I genuinely enjoy teaching, both for the joy of sharing mathematics with others, and for the opportunity to revisit old material and enhance my own understanding. I am confident in my ability to teach a variety of courses, notably
in areas of pure mathematics such as analysis, algebra, and topology.
It is my opinion that students generally learn mathematics best through
example. Thus after introducing any new concepts, the majority of time in my classroom is usually spent working through as many examples as possible. I carefully choose my examples to have enough variety so that the students can distinguish the features that are common to all from the features
that are specific to a particular example.
I am so flexible and adapting to my students and I will never gi
