My background includes having deaf parents and daughters that are deaf so I have been using ASL all of my life as it's my first language and I am a CODA (child of deaf parents). I have taught k-12 deaf students for over 30 years. My favorite subject is teaching American Sign Language (all levels) and interpreting which I taught at the local college for over 20 years. I have lifetime teaching credentials for k-12 and community college. Presently, I interpret for the deaf free-lance. I have taught over 3000 students over my many years of teaching, it is my love.

Dan is awesome to work with. I've had five 30 minute sessions so far, and now have switched to 60 minutes - I've even paid in advance for 20 lessons because I know I'll be continuing with him long term. Love that he's very detail oriented and corrects me when I sign less than perfect.

Congratulations on taking the first step to learn the beautiful language of ASL! After studying under Deaf professors myself, I am thrilled to offer you help along your learning journey! I offer between 25-30 ASL lessons which will help a complete novice cover all of the ASL beginner lessons and learn about Deaf history and culture.

About Joy
Want to learn to speak Spanish? Sign ASL? I would love to be a part of your journey! I am a patient, and friendly person, who is passionate about language learning!

SPANISH: I use my own personal learning experience mixed with a communicative approach to create a teaching method for my Spanish students. My Spanish teaching method focuses on the development of these four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and then writing. Do you have specific goals? Great! Or are you learning just to be able to speak any and all that you can? Awesome! I teach beginner and intermediate and am a conversation partner and tutor for students more advanced! Also be prepared to be challenged to get involved with the Latin American culture around you!

ASL: My lessons will give you a strong foundation in Sign, and then a few training wheels until you fee
l confident in what you know, and can converse about various real-life topics. My teaching method utilizes much of Deaf professor Dr. Bill Vicars' approach--with signed conversation in each lesson beginning with high frequency concepts. Each lesson is full of new signs, grammar, conversation, Deaf culture tidbits, and more.

About me:
I fell in love with language when in 2010 I lived, studied, and worked abroad in Colombia, South America. There I studied Spanish, worked with Deaf students, and taught Spanish speakers English. It was such an enriching experience that upon returning to the USA, I decided to fully surround myself with culturally diverse individuals and continue my learning journey.

One of the major differences between learning a language in a classroom and having a personal instructor is that one-on-one help you will receive --- specific to your level, learning style, and language goals. I will help you stop feeling nervous, renew your motivation, and get you communicating in a new language in no time!!

I just had my first lesson on TakeLessons and couldn't have picked a better instructor. Joy moves at a pace well-suited to my current comprehension of ASL and pays attention to every aspect of how I'm signing in order to help me improve. Loved it!

I love teaching Baby Sign Language to parents, grandparents, nannies, daycare providers, and other caregivers so you can teach your baby to communicate with you to help build a close and meaningful relationship!

45 minute classes are caregiver-baby theme based classes and teach you 5 or 6 signs you can use immediately to communicate with your baby. The 90 minute Workshop is for caregivers only and gives you all the information you need to teach your baby to sign! Decide if you want to learn in bite-sized doses or all at once, and book a class today!

About Christelle
I love creating: writing, knitting, seeing new things come to life and thrive. I have extensive experience teaching women's health classes and counseling in natural women's health, because motherhood courses through my veins. I am also a published author and speaker.

I love to encourage and support my students and build into your lives -- to see you make goals, work hard to achieve them, and then succeed! If you are a student who will work hard -- and have fun doing so -- and want a coach who will cheer you on, then I am the teacher for you!

Baby Sign Language classes are either caregiver and child or caregiver alone. Baby Signs classes are appropriate for young children age 5 years old and under. Health coaching services are for women age 18 years old and up. My ESL classes are for women who are at least 18 years old.

As we took a childbirth class from Christelle, you might say we took one of the most important classes in our lives from her! We honestly believe if we had not taken her class we would not have had nearly so positive an experience in natural childbirth, so much credit is due to her. Christelle prepared thoroughly for all our lessons, included interesting activities and personal anecdotes. Most importantly, Christelle made it clear that she cared not only about our grasp of the content but also about us as people. That made all the difference.

Fluent in American Sign Language and have been for 18 years. All ages welcome. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Not only will you be fingerspelling words in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of every day vocabulary, expressive skills and more. Let's get started!

About Kaitlin
I currently work in a field where I educate and guide young individuals with disabilities through their transition from high school to post-secondary training and beyond to the world of work. During my free time, I teach American Sign Language. My background in Sign Language is more of a personal experience - I grew up speaking/using two languages - English and American Sign Language. I have a hearing loss which propelled me to learn sign language at a young age. Now that American Sign Language is recognized as an official language, and more educational institutes are offering Sign Language as a course, I cannot help but become more eager to teach sign language or even tutor those who are currently taking classes. Come and take a class with me! I promise you that I am laid back and patient, but I will help push you to become comfortable w
ith Sign Language.

I have a BA in services to the Deaf with a minor in Interpreting. I currently teach ASL for the local technology center. In my classes I teach not only the signs but also add culture. I will share personal stories and things that happened when I was learning, that if someone had told me different I would not have offended people. I will teach you by association and explain why some signs are what they are. If you are looking for a fun , and informative class sign up for mine today.

About Starrla
I am an instructor at the local Technology Center. I have been signing since 1990. I started out in a night college class as a junior in high school. My dad told me I needed to get a head start on my college life. I asked him what was I going to take...He opened up the newspaper and there it was...The headlines read...New class to offered, Sign Language. I enrolled the next day and have been signing ever since. I have to say it was difficult at first because I speak english, and all the words like and, but, or, was etc were NOT in the signing vocabulary.

Sign Language is not something you will learn overnight. You also have to practice or you will loose what you have gained. I still to this day practice. I practice while I am driving and well needless to say people stare at me....Oh well at least I know I am retaining my pas
sion. I stay involved with the Deaf community as much as I possibly can. I do have many Deaf friends that well keep me on my toes at times. They like to facetime me and show me a new sign they either made up or someone has showed them and they do not understand why it means what it does. I hope you will give me the opportunity to teach you ASL. It is my passion and I love to see people have an interest.
Thank you and hope to see you soon

About Brandy W.

Embraced by the Deaf community in the state of Massachusetts over 10 years ago, I was submerged in the language and the culture during and after losing what was left of my hearing. I’ve never felt so much love and support in my life. It was quite touching. During the whole “losing my hearing” process, I quickly picked up American Sign Language and began teaching at TLC Deaf.

My family relocated to a different state and I began teaching homeschooled students ASL online via other video chat apps like FT, Skype, etc.

I had no idea that this (TakeLessons) existed and I’m not even sure how I stumbled across this app. I’ve been seeing various vocabulary signed differently compared to what I learned so I’ve been joining classes as well. Furthermore, I believe that there will always be something for you to learn no matter how skilled you are.

I noticed that there were no morning classes during the week and figured that I could share what I know with those who prefer morning classes.

About Brandy Q
I’m fun, innovative, interactive and insightful. I believe that I am skilled at meeting people where they are, understanding how they learn, and adjusting my style of teaching to match their needs. My classes are voice off, but I have many visual cues along with text that will help students understand and flow.

First lessons can be hard because you don't know what knowledge your new student is bringing. Brandy understood when we could speed up and when we needed to slow down. She is very friendly and relaxed. As a beginner, I highly recommend her!

Mrs. Williams is an awesome teacher. She is very patient and kind. I am not def and not very coordinated but I am actually learning and using what I learn, correctly, with my best friend who I recently reconnected with. Thanks Mrs. Williams for making this so much easier than I expected and working with me through my challenges!
