I am an experienced tutor with 4 years of experience tutoring at the college and elementary school levels. I have mostly tutored in ASL (sign language) and various areas in psychology. I love being able to share my knowledge through tutoring. I have a BA in psychology, and a lifetime of using ASL at home. I use this experience to help students learn in ways that work well with their particular learning styles. For this reason, I like to teach students small lessons, then ask them questions. This tests memory and understanding, while also allowing for connection, repartee, and flexibility.
About Theresa
I am an experienced tutor, having tutored in 6 subjects over the course of 3 years through a peer tutoring program at my college. Further, I have tutored 4 students online through another platform in ASL. I am a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) and ASL was my first language, followed closely by English

I teach and tutor in American Sign Language from the perspective of one who came into ASL and the Deaf community without a thought of being a professional in a related field. Still, I did become a professional interpreter, teacher, tutor, mentor and have been a service-provider, advocate and friend with many Deaf since 1984.
I want my students to learn that fear and anxiety in undertaking a new adventure are usually of our own making, and that learning about other cultures and languages by association with native users is so valuable.
Therefore, my classes are highly interactive and immersive; students will be required often to learn voice-off, role-play sign language / deaf experience situations, complete tasks between classes, and engage fully. Focus will be on conversational quality, grammatical structures, situational encounters, expressive and receptive language skills.
I will provide curriculum and, as needed, written information and videos used.

To effectively communicate with sign language, you need to know basic sign language words and phrases. Just like spoken languages, there are a variety of sign languages used around the world. American Sign Language (ASL) is used throughout North America, including the U.S. and English-speaking Canada. ASL is a complete language, which means that you can communicate just about anything through signing. Those who are deaf and hard of hearing, as well as people with functional hearing, use ASL …
