I have been a professional American Sign Language interpreter since 2008. I graduated from MacMurray College with a Bachelors of American Sign Language Interpreting and from Walden University with both a Master's degree in both Business Administration and Education. American Sign Language students can expect to gain the foundational skills for conversation. Students will also learn the history and culture surrounding the Deaf Community. I teach students of all ages and experience levels. I can teach American Sign Language students the grammar and vocabulary necessary for communicating in American Sign Language. As a nationally certified ASL interpreter, I am on the state registry of supreme court interpreters, and have worked as the Director of a Community Center for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. I have taught ASL privately since 2009 and professionally since 2014. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to reach your goals.

Great!
Tanya is a great ASL teacher! Finds the perfect pace, makes it fun, and lessons build on each other so you can actually start to understand and converse much more quickly than I thought. My 12 year old daughter and I took lessons with Tanya together and Tanya made it such a fun learning activity for us!
I’ve had Tanya as an instructor for close to a year, and she’s been wonderful. She’s upbeat, positive, patient, and very organized. She gives good resources, whether it’s youtube links, grammar cheat sheets, or book recommendations. She organizes each class by topic and builds upon what you’ve learned in previous classes. She’s also helpful in preparing you for actual conversational situations. I would definitely recommend Tanya for anyone who’s seeking to learn ASL.
