About Chelsy K.

I am a hard working, empathetic individual who found a passion for the language of American Sign Language in 2013. Since then I've been studying, learning, and using the language in several different avenues of my life. I hold a Bachelors degree in English with a minor in American Sign Language and Deaf studies.

I am currently enrolled full time in an Interpreter Training Program where I will earn a certification in June of 2021. In the program I dove further into the history of the language, linguistics, Deaf culture, interpreter training and so much more.

Teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had. For years I taught community education classes in large groups. Later on my classes transferred to one on one and small group settings as well. I have experience with children, adults, special needs, hard of hearing, and deaf individuals. I have had groups of families get together to learn, and was requested to appear in a local college classroom to educate nursing students on basic health and emergency signs.

I worked in a charter school for almost three years in general education and special education classes. Here is where I found a true value in knowing this beautiful language to assist with communication barriers and even behavioral outbursts. The implementation of ASL into their everyday lives made improvements in communication, education, and behaviors.

My goal is to not simply earn a living, but to live a meaningful life. Whatever your reason for wanting to learn, I will be there every step of the way as you begin your Sign Language journey!

I attended a level 1 ASL class with Deaf Access Services where Chelsy was my instructor. I continued doing private tutoring with her a few months after and she is amazing! She is dedicated and passionate about ASL, she took the time to make sure I felt comfortable in what I was learning and always had resources and materials readily available. I really enjoyed my tutoring with her and learned a lot.

After suffering complete hearing loss in 1 ear and starting to gradually lose hearing in the other I decided to learn ASL. I cannot say enough about the help and encouragement I have gotten from Chelsy. My wife is also taking lessons, and it will because of Chelsy we will be able to communicate .. Thank You

Chelsy was my ASL I teacher and we have used her as a private tutor for our family as one member loses their hearing. She is GREAT! She is flexible and uses the best teaching methods to help us remember things and be able to actually communicate! LOVE HER!!!

I took a level 1 ASL class with Chelsy, and then continued tutoring for a number of months afterwards. She is so kind, and does a really great job at catering lessons to what works for her students. She also takes time to get to know you as a person, which is a really great touch (and fun way to practice what you've been learning!). Will definitely be reaching out to pick up tutoring again with her once my schedule frees up!

Chelsy was a wonderful instructor. We first encountered her in a classroom setting, but had such a positive experience we also had her tutor our family in small group setting. She moves at the pace you need her to, challenges you to learn and use ASL and reinforces in a supportive environment. We highly recommend her.

I took an ASL 101 level class with Chelsy. The course took place once a week over the course of a few weeks with a class size of 6-10 people- of all different ages, backgrounds and skill levels.
Chelsy managed the class well especially considering we all had varying experiences with ASL- from none to at all to wanting to brush up on the language. She is friendly, approachable, and clearly very knowledgeable and passionate about her profession. The course work was appropriate and she incorporated different games and activities for us to actively practice and learn. I definitely feel like I retained a lot and would love to keep going with learning more ASL
