Being born to deaf parents, my first language is American Sign Language. I am a CODA (child of deaf adult). My primary language is English and an expert ASL signer. By nature, Im apart of the Deaf/HH community and look to grow in advocating. I would like to reach hearing parents with deaf children or even hearing children with deaf parents by helping them advance in using their sign language skills proficiently.
I’m also interested in working with students whom are interested in ASL as a second language or even a hobby. Taking ASL in high school and need tutoring? I can assist in learning the visual and gestural communication of the signing.

About Amber

Do you want to expand your signing skills from a CODA (Child Of Deaf Adult) and educator? ASL being my first language and English a second language, I’ve signed to my mother, father, brothers and others in the deaf community by nature. I’m currently learning to sign music in ASL which has been a gr

I teach and tutor in American Sign Language from the perspective of one who came into ASL and the Deaf community without a thought of being a professional in a related field. Still, I did become a professional interpreter, teacher, tutor, mentor and have been a service-provider, advocate and friend with many Deaf since 1984.

I want my students to learn that fear and anxiety in undertaking a new adventure are usually of our own making, and that learning about other cultures and languages by association with native users is so valuable.

Therefore, my classes are highly interactive and immersive; students will be required often to learn voice-off, role-play sign language / deaf experience situations, complete tasks between classes, and engage fully. Focus will be on conversational quality, grammatical structures, situational encounters, expressive and receptive language skills.

I will provide curriculum and, as needed, written information and videos used.

About Allison

My journey with ASL began at age 6 – from shy little friend to a Professional interpreter, teacher, tutor, mentor, workshop trainer, evaluator, agency owner, advocate, and friend. I began interpreting in 1984 and soon thereafter received my degree in Public Service - Interpreting / ASL; and thus ha

I had some previous ASL lessons and exposure. However doing the class with Allison did help to polish my language skill and conversation skills. The class that I participated in was a mix of true beginners and some intermediate users. She was still able to make class fun and even challenging for me with the mix of learners.

She is fun and doesn't make learning overly serious. But you will be very equipped to hold a conversation with deaf friends and family.

Allison's teaching method is fun and engaging. I have witnessed her teach ASL to students of all ages and backgrounds, and I'm convinced she can teach ASL to just about anyone!

"I had been wanting to learn sign language and more about the deaf community since seeing an ASL translator at my college in California. Now at a point where I am finishing up my college career, I decided to invest in classes (because why not try something new and interesting!). Online proved the best option and Eduardo was the #1 rated ASL teacher on TakeLessons.
I had a few questions and Eduardo immediately reached out to me. He was (and is) both friendly and informative in his communication. His teaching style is more conversational and personalized to the level and learning style of the student. He is patient yet pushes me forward in my learning by integrating sign language into daily parts of my life. For example, I am currently learning how to sign some of my favorite songs! Additionally, Eduardo presents a new challenge regularly for my personal growth in the language. I have been taking weekly lessons for 3 months and am now at the point where he says I can no longer use my voice along with my signs. The process of speaking interferes with the fluidity of signing...I'm really excited to see how my signing improves!
If you have the opportunity to invest in learning this beautiful language, I really encourage you to #1) try it and #2) take it with Eduardo. He will teach you so much and make it incredibly fun in the process. I feel like I've learned enough to fill a dictionary after each lesson! Eduardo genuinely cares and is excited to share this piece of his world with you...I couldn't be more thankful and plan to continue lessons with him indefinitely."

Sign Language for Beginners: 10 Basic ASL Phrases & Words

To effectively communicate with sign language, you need to know basic sign language words and phrases. Just like spoken languages, there are a variety of sign languages used around the world. American Sign Language (ASL) is used throughout North America, including the U.S. and English-speaking Canada.
