Majestic, Beautiful, Noble, Heroic. The horn is a unique instrument, and an instrument many people say is very difficult to play. However, even in the early stages of learning the instrument, it is important to think about expressing the wonderful qualities of the horn, while still learning the technical aspects of the instrument. In my experience, playing as the President and Principal Horn of the Houghton Symphony Orchestra amongst other positions, learning to become a good musician is just as important as becoming a good horn player, so in my lessons I aim for my students to become both. Let us go forth and be better musicians.

I believe that a beautiful sound is the most important thing. Rather than telling you how to get a great sound, I will demonstrate by playing everything back and forth with you. Learning a musical skill is accomplished through trial and error, thus we need to make mistakes in order to improve. I encourage my students not to be afraid of making mistakes. Perfection is not the target - a beautiful sound is the ultimate goal.

About Larry

Hi! My name is Larry, and I really enjoy playing and teaching trumpet. I have been taking lessons with Larry for about two years and I have improved immensely. Larry is very supportive and gives great feedback, he makes the lessons fun and educational. He will let you figure things out on your own but also give helpful instructions to lead you on your way to success. Larry is the reason I went from not being able to play the trumpet to two years later playing a level 4 trumpet NYSSMA solo and getting a 25 out of 28. Taking lessons from Larry was the best thing I could have done to get better at playing the trumpet.
Ginny
Our daughter loves taking lessons from Larry. He has helped her improve her trumpet skills. She is a beginner, and he is very patient and knowledgeable about what she needs to develop into a great musician. Larry is always available and prompt with his lesson times but is also flexible with his schedule for us when needed.
Sarah
I like lessons with Larry. He is patient, and always finds something positive. Trumpet is easier now, and a lot more fun!

Wonderful!

Samantha D. is wonderful. My kids play so well for only 1 year'sworth of lessons. I would highly recommend her to anyone! I am blownaway by the music that comes out of the Piano from a 7 and 11 year old.My 11 year old signed up for her first music competition at school. Ifyou told me one year ago I would have girls playing a piano, I would notbelieve you. I truly thought they would quit after a couple of months. Not the case. They are musically talented and still love it. Thanks toSamantha D! They are now thriving in the in-school music program.Thank you, TakeLessons, for filtering out the best teachers. When achild has a small window of interest, you have to grab it the rightway...the wrong teacher would not have given me these results.

My granddaughter, Katelynn, enjoys her trumpet lessons with Samantha. Samantha is caring, seems to enjoy teaching & has patience; which is needed since Katelynn needs a little extra attention learning things

Highly Recommend her!

My daughters (10, & 6) have only had three lessons with Samantha! They love it. Her nature is kind and welcoming. She can tell how much they can handle so doesn't overwhelm them with too much theory or pieces to play. She strikes a nice balance. My 10 year old started composing her own song when she became bord with the beginner book! Samantha has added to this excitement and changed her teaching style to match my daughters learning style. My daughter was beaming! Samantha has taught her how to take the next pieces of theory and add it to her song. She also ordered music my daughter enjoys like Selena Gomez. My 6 year old is excited every week and doesn't want to be late. My husband and I thought this would be just another thing to start and quit. So far they are going strong!

Wit's understanding and non-dogmatic teaching style made classes high-quality and stress-free. Remote instruction was deeply engaging, which I wasn't expecting as someone who is used to in-person music classes. I definitely learned more than I have in any other guitar class.

I especially appreciated that class felt like a discussion rather than a recital. Instead of following one method or theme, I was encouraged to completely shift our attention at any time if there was anything I was curious about.

Wit presents difficult ideas with enough context that I, having a limited understanding of theory, felt able to keep up and incorporate higher-level concepts into my writing/playing.

Can't recommend Wit's classes enough!

My mission is to cultivate musicians to be the best they can be by receiving a well-rounded music education, developing mastery, and becoming life-long music appreciators. My goal as an educator is to inspire and encourage students to test their limits and strive for musical, personal, and professional growth.

Benefits of being in my cello studio:

Flexible schedule: Unlike other cello teachers, I have a lot of availability throughout the day and week. As long as you reschedule within 24 hours, and I can guarantee you have a lesson during that week!

They way she teaches the lessons makes it educational and yet fun at the same time. She's easy to get a long with and communicates well. Loved that she complimented me when I was doing something right. She made me feel very comfortable. Overall she was a great teacher.

We met Ashley when she was a junior in college through the Univ. of Texas String Project. Over the two years with her in this program, Ashley has been most dedicated and caring, and her passion for teaching showed when she went above and beyond to address my questions. She is also organized, reliable, and resourceful. During the program breaks and then post graduation, we continued with private lessons because Ashley made lessons fun so my little cellist loves hanging out with Ashley that much! Transitioning to online lessons was a trial for everyone, but Ashley managed to make that work and her dedication did not falter. We are so thankful for her and highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn/improve in cello.

As a graduate of The Juilliard School and a former member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, I have extensive experience performing as a classical violinist and violist in solo, chamber, and orchestral music. I have been playing the violin since the age of 5 and have participated recently in many well known music programs such as the Verbier Festival in Switzerland, the Music Academy of the West, New York String Orchestra Seminar, and Aspen Music Festival. I have experience teaching in violin sections in orchestra and group classes through the Tufts Community Music Program. I grew up learning through the Suzuki method, so I encourage learning by ear and emphasize the importance of efficient and organized practice. In a lesson with me, I would focus on learning classical violin technique in order to produce the best sound, while allowing the student to pick their repertoire based on their musical preferences, however always encouraging exploration of the classical genre!

"Miss Ashley is quickly and diligently finding the gaps in my 12yr old daughter's Tap/Jazz training! Ashley is intelligent, energetic, observant and is quick to clarify what she means verbally. She can superbly demonstrate in minute details the technique of any movement being discussed. Refreshing. :) Every minute with her is a learning moment. We've seen in 3 lessons that she can fuse genre or she can approach them from the purist's perspective, and she can review choreography and offer guidance in an age appropriate manner. My daughter is already looking much cleaner in her technique than she, herself, thought possible. Hope. You're in excellent hands with Miss Ashley. For the hesitant, she's no doubt worth the rates she quotes for an individual lesson. If you want to get A to B, this is your teacher. Come to her with an agenda, and she'll help you get through it. My child loves her. Good luck and Keep Dancing!"
