The awesome thing about working with kids on acting is that they usually come equipped with active imaginations and are already versed in the art of playing. Adult actors of all levels vary in their experience and training, but some may not have as easy access to that inner kid. And at the core of good acting is the ability to let go of inhibitions and play, which most kids do pretty naturally.
I first started working with young people as a college student when I returned home to conduct improv workshops at Scotland High School where I had graduated in North Carolina. I was also a camp counselor for 2 years at our local adventure camp. (Don't get me started on the talent shows we'd co-produce with our kids). Since then, I've conducted interactive workshops on Shakespearean Acting (including stage combat!) across the southeast while on tour with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival's Globeworks Program. I've also lead workshops at the West End Studio Theatre in Santa Cruz ...
