I've graced the stages of some of NYC's most beloved theatres including; The National Black Theatre, The Public Theatre, 13th Street Rep, and HERE Arts Center. I can be seen in a number of films, commercials, and music videos alongside the likes of Shaquille O’Neal. I’ve performed worldwide in places like Athens, GR. I have worked with world-famous directors like Broadway's Kenny Leon and Dennis Hilton-Reid, and received training from some of the world's top acting institutions (The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, CalArts). I have directed regionally and in New York, I teach regularly with The Family Repertory Company (Where I have served as a resident actor and director since 2016), and have students spanning the globe! I strive to acquire as much knowledge about this craft as is possible and to share that gift with the world. A wise man once told me, “The only reason to act is that it hurts too much not to.” My approach Heightened Sense of Self Awareness Expanding the Self (mind/ body/ voice) Text Analysis/ Scene Study Creating Multi-Dimensional Characters Building Character Relationships Fighting for an Objective Audition and Performance Technique

In the dramatic arts, method acting is a technique that actors use to create and develop lifelike performances. Though not all Method actors use the same approach, the "Method" refers to the method of teaching the craft of acting, which was created by Constantin Stanislavski in order to teach concepts of acting to his students. Later, Lee Strasberg adapted Stanislavski’s method of teaching for American actors. Strasberg's method emphasized the practice of connecting to a character by drawing on personal emotions and memories, aided by a set of exercises and practices including sense memory and effective memory. Stanislavski's system of acting was the foundation of Strasberg's technique. Those who use Strasberg's technique are now commonly referred to as "Method Actors", although the "Method" refers to Stanislavski's original system.

Method Acting Lessons

Method acting has become synonymous with some of the greatest actors in both film and theater over the last century. Method acting techniques have grown from the system developed by Russian actor Konstantin Stanislavski, as well as famous acting coaches such as Stella Adler and Sanford Meisner.

Also known as the Method, method acting is a technique where an actor attempts to “become” the character they are playing on stage, in film, or on a TV show. Typically, the actor dives into the psyche of a character, often not breaking the role even when off-stage or out in public. This is all done in an attempt to completely inhabit the persona of the fictional or historical character they are playing.

For fledgling and experienced actors looking to incorporate the system into their own approach, it might be time to take method acting lessons. The TakeLessons platform provides the best online method acting lessons and in-person sessions that will help you learn the ins and outs of method acting. Sign up today to get started!

FAQ

How do you learn method acting?

arrow

You can learn method acting by “becoming” the character you’re playing. You find a character by practicing emotional memory to bring out emotions from your past that apply to that character. You can augment this by researching the character as much as possible, finding things you can relate to in their experience, and then embodying that in your acting. Eventually, playing the character will become so natural you won’t have to think about it. A method acting teacher can help guide you through this process and give you critical feedback on your performances.

Where can I learn method acting?

arrow

You can learn method acting in many different places. There are famous acting studios that teach the Method, such as The Actors Studio at Pace University in New York, as well as the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. There are many approaches and styles to choose from as well. Another great way is to learn online through private lessons. TakeLessons has experienced teachers who provide the best online acting lessons for your growth as an actor.
