International touring dance artist with 10 years teaching experience. Hip Hop is one of my specialties and has been a part of my life for the past 15 years! Catered to your level, this class will touch on the basics of many different styles of hip hop - breaking, krump, house, old school, commercial, locking, contemporary hip hop and common style. Follow along with some basic groove steps for whichever style you would like to focus on (or some groove steps for all of the styles), and learn some movement phrases created by me to practice or refine your skills.
***During the pandemic, I am offering these classes at a low rate as my way of giving back to the community.***

I have been teaching dance for over 10 years. In that time I have found that, regardless of what style you are learning, everything is made of a few fundamental principals and components specific to that style. There are only so many ways you can move your feet and body. By understanding these principals & components, you can then put them together in any order with different style to create different dances. By laying the proper foundation, students have an easier time following choreography, learning to apply their own style, and even keeping up with a class. Once a dancer has a foundation to work up on, I introduce new concepts in layers to help dances feel better and develop a nicer aesthetic.

Ask as many questions as you like. Ive been teaching for over 15 years. All ages from 7-70.
A little about me. I started dancing in 2003. I connected with dancers from the DMV which led me to Breakdance practices at College Park, UMBC, JHU and more. As I got better and more skilled local crews began to take notice. I was inducted into The Deadly Venoms Crew "DVC" in 2010. The entire time training as a BBoy i was also learning and picking up other HH styles such as House, Krump and Popping. One was just not enough for me. In 2011 I competed in numerous All-Styles and Top Rock battles Nationally. In 2013 I was a showcase street performer in the production “Working America” and later that

Private Hip Hop Dance Lessons Near You
Primarily performed to hip hop music, hip hop dance incorporates a variety of street dance moves that evolved around hip hop music's culture. Originally, a type of freestyle dance, improvisation, and freestyle competitions are still a major part of hip hop dance. The style incorporates a wide variety of moves, like popping, locking, and breaking.
Featured on television shows like "Soul Train," the style first became popular in the 1970s. Its popularity began to grow and become more mainstream throughout the 1980s. In the '90s, the dance industry responded by standardizing and teaching the form.
If you want to be the best dancer at a school dance or during a night out, then hip hop dance is where you should focus. Hip hop dance most closely resembles what you see used in popular culture. It's the type of dance most often performed in music videos or half-time shows for pop, R&B, and, of course, hip hop music artists.
Why Sign Up for Hip Hop Dance Classes?
Professionally, hip hop dancers have opportunities to work as performers. They work as live backup dancers, in dance troupes, and on music video sets. Hip hop dancers can also join up with large dance teams to dance in performances and competitions. Plus, there're dance teams for dancers of all ages and abilities to join — from grade school past college.
Hip hop dance's uniquely powerful style helps build confidence and independence in dancers. It's also very healthy. As you practice and learn new moves, you'll grow stronger, increase your flexibility, and get a great aerobic workout. Learning hip hop dance will help you get fit and stay in shape, meaning you'll enjoy overall better health.
The Best Way to Learn Hip Hop Dance and What You'll Study in Lessons
You can easily find free hip hop dance classes and tutorials online, but the best way to learn is with a private hip hop dance tutor. In private lessons, you'll receive immediate feedback and personalized instruction that you can't get online or in a larger class setting. When you study one-on-one with a hip hop dance teacher, you'll overcome challenges and learn new moves fast.
Plus, every private hip hop dance class is unique! Your teacher will personalize everything you learn in your lessons to keep you interested, motivating, and learning at the pace and level that's best for you. For example, hip hop dance classes for adults differ, in terms of teaching methods and content, from hip hop dance lessons for children.
Sample Curriculum for Beginner Hip Hop Dance
If you've never taken hip hop dance or have only had a little previous experience, then beginner lessons are right for you. In these classes, you'll be introduced to the basic moves, techniques, and dance styles that define hip hop dance. In beginner lessons, your instructor might choose to cover the following:
- Learn to find the rhythm
- Dance conditioning: how to warm up, cool down, and stretch
- Train your dance foundation
- Introduction to fundamental moves and styles
Sample Curriculum for Intermediate Hip Hop Dance
If you're already familiar and comfortable with the basics of hip hop dance, then you'll be most comfortable in intermediate classes. In these lessons, you'll build upon your basic knowledge and skills and begin mastering increasingly complex dance moves and choreography. As you train, you'll grow stronger, increase balance, and become more flexible. Your intermediate teacher might choose to cover the following topics:
- Increase body control and awareness
- Master combination dance moves
- Introduction to incorporating breakdancing
- Learn professional choreography
Sample Curriculum for Advanced Hip Hop Dance
If you can pop and lock with the best of them and have been practicing hip hop dance for a while, then advanced lessons are right for you. In these classes, you'll have the opportunity to improve your style and technique, in addition to trying out new moves and choreography with a professional. Content covered in advanced lessons really depends on the student's individual interests and goals, but your hip hop dance teacher might cover the following topics:
- Practice new freestyle techniques and strategies
- Learn to choreograph your own moves
- Audition coaching
- Performance preparation
