I really enjoy learning new languages, and I truly believe that having a great teacher is essential to success. Tony is AWESOME. He is so patient and kind. He really helps you understand why the signs are what they are and how the deaf community communicates even beyond signing. I am really enjoying our lessons and the 'homework' he assigns is fun and manageable. I highly recommend him!

I teach Conversational American Sign Language. If you want to be able to communicate effectively with Deaf people where you work, at your school, in church, or at the grocery store, you need this fun course. I like to teach students the way Deaf people really sign, and give them opportunities to interact with native ASL users to become comfortable in their signing.

About Catherine

Hi! I am a fluent ASL user. I have taught classes for both Deaf and Hearing children & adults for over 25 years, and even founded a Christian school for the Deaf! I've interpreted professionally in the community, at religious services, medical venues, and in higher education for 30 years, I hav

I am so happy that I chose Cathy, to learn from. She teaches ASL in a fun and informative environment. From the history of the language, to the reason a sign looks the way it does, to “hands-on” activities - you will learn and retain the information. Cathy prepares her students to interact in the deaf community, and encourages us to do so. I am quickly learning the language, meeting wonderful people (who I otherwise never would have met) and I’m growing more confident in ASL all the time. Thanks Cathy!
Ann
Cathy is very knowledgeable of ASL and the history behind it. She demonstrates how the local deaf community uses signs that may be different in other places.
Sarah
Cathy is an amazing teacher and her memory techniques make picking up the language so much easier! She makes learning fun and entertaining as well as informative. Would recommend her as a teacher for anyone wanting to learn ASL.

I was interested in learning to sign from the time I was a little girl. American Sign Language and the Deaf culture have always been fascinating to me. When it was time to choose a college and career, I sought a way to use ASL in my daily life. I became a Teacher for the Deaf, and I continue to have a passion for both the language and the culture. I want to share that passion with you!

I have been a Teacher for the Deaf for 5 years. I work daily with students who use ASL as their main form of communication. In addition to meeting their individual needs, I create goals and implement direct lessons to help them learn and improve ASL.

I learned American Sign Language in a formal college setting. I learned ASL from both Deaf and hearing instructors. I met several times weekly with my professors in the classroom setting and participated in "immersion" hours throughout my college career. Now, I use it daily to communicate with my students and other professionals.

About Robyn

"Tony is a patient teacher who loves his subject and his students. He loves to teach, and truly gets excited when he sees his students "getting it". He is a rare teacher because he is so connected personally to the subject and to every student. He is a great encourager and motivator, and he is extremely skilled in ASL. This is no "side job" for him. He is devoted to the deaf community, and part of that devotion is teaching hearing folks to communicate with the community he loves so much. If you want to learn ASL, you will not be disappointed with Tony."

"I'm a shy person and I was nervous about taking a class as interactive as ASL. From the first time I joined one of Tony's TakeLessons Live classes, he encouraged me to get involved and kept things light and fun. Since then, I've begun taking one-on-one classes and I always come away with a smile on my face and a lot more knowledge than I went in with. Tony's great at adapting to your learning style and goals and he's very supportive and encouraging. You never feel bad for messing up or forgetting a sign. Each lesson is like having a quick visit with a friend, all while learning another language."
