About Alexa
Hey guys, I'm Alexa. When I first started learning ASL, I had no idea how beautifully complex it was or the diverse culture it belongs to. I was watching a TV show where ASL was used frequently and I picked up a few phrases. Before I knew it, I was in love and decided I wanted to dedicate my life t

I enjoy using American Sign Language as both a fun creative outlet through interpretation, and as a tool to communicate with members of the Deaf community. I have taught vocabulary and culture to students levels 1-3 and try to add as many relevant cultural insights as possible to my lessons.
Students can expect to focus on fingerspelling, hand shapes, vocabulary, facial expression, body language, and ASL interpretation skills.
About Robert
Mixing has been my passion for over 5 years and I regularly DJ for underground parties and live streams hosted by promoters and friends. My partner and I have developed an easy-to-follow 6-step method through our brand Mix 'n Match Mentors that teaches the basic "order of operations" you should fol

* he's an extremely empathetic person so he's always on the same wavelength as his student.
* he's an exceptional communicator, as evidenced by his fluency in not only English and Spanish but ASL as well. More importantly than his multiple-language fluency, he has a natural aptitude for teaching and explaining things in an intuitive way.
* he's extremely passionate about live music performance, but especially the sounds that get people moving on the dance-floor. He also possesses an exceptional breadth of knowledge of dance music as a whole: the history, the artists, the genres, and all manner of tracks from timeless classics to fresh releases.
Robert has put a lot of thought into how to build the fundamentals of mixing from the ground up. I know, because I was one of the first people he taught. When we started, I was overwhelmed by the flashing lights and myriad buttons on the controller, and couldn't transition from one song to the next to save my life.
The many hours we spent teaching me to mix had two significant outcomes:
1. Not only do I feel comfortable stepping up to the decks to mix, it's actually something I REALLY enjoy and look forward to.
2. Robert developed the teaching framework he'll use to teach you, which focuses first on mastering critical fundamentals in an intuitive, step-by-step process.
If you're anything like me, listening (and dancing!) to dance music is something that brings you a great deal of joy.
Take it from me: the thrill of a perfectly-executed transition from one song to the next is an intensely gratifying and thrilling one. Being at the helm of a controller, you get to play an active role in the music, which is so much cooler than just passively enjoying it. Robert got me to that level.
He can get you there too.

I studied four levels of American Sign Language, and learned about the language and deaf culture, at Temple University. ASL is a beautiful language and I am excited to get you started on learning it! In these lessons, we will learn finger-spelling and ASL signs to carry out conversations. Lessons will be conversationally-based, and I will suggest assignments and activities in between lessons that will help you retain information and progress.

Have you been wondering, "What's the difference between ASL and BSL?" This is a great question, and deserves a little more background. First of all, did you know that sign language is not universal? Just like there are numerous spoken languages (around 6,500) used across the globe, there are also many sign languages (somewhere between 138-300) used by various Deaf communities. Though it’s a common belief, sign languages do not stem from a country’s spoken language. The natural develo …
