About Amy
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my students an array of tools to gain the ability
and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching how to sing rock, pop, musical theater, jazz, cabaret, and blues without hurting the voice as well as method acting instruction.

A very good first lesson. We went over breathing exercises and scales. Also had time for Amy to critique my speaking style through a portion of a speech I will be giving in a month. Time well-spent.

She briefly went over the next lesson plan and gave me a little homework to do as well.

I got a lot out of this lesson and I can see how this will help me accomplish my goal of being a better public speaker and having a more controlled and stronger voice.

Looking forward to future lessons.

Teresa was awesome! She worked with me and my limited flexibility and really set me up for success with exercises to integrate into my routine. She was also very cognizant of a prior injury and presented long term alternate solutions to tissue regrowth. I really look forward to working with her again!

She was really great, we have only had one lesson so far but she made me feel very comfortable and I feel like she will be perfect for me helping me get over my stage fright. She came up with quite a few ideas up front and can tell she is taking it seriously, which makes me even more confident in her because it is such a serious issue for me. I am looking forward to working with her.

About Christina
My name is Christina and I am very passionate about the vocal arts, specifically Opera. Opera was a surprise in my life that I discovered in college. I am now currently pursuing my MM degree in vocal arts at UCLA. The classical technique can provide a great foundation to healthy singing, ensuring a long and healthy vocal life.

Along side opera and other genres of singing, I believe basic knowledge in piano is extremely beneficial in improving musicality and an understanding of each piece. Piano greatly improves sight reading and ones ability to learn music quickly and efficiently. It can allow one to develop an understanding of harmony and context within each unique piece of music.

I would love to help and guide those interested in music, specifically classical voice, opera, musical theater, and piano. I would love to share the gre
at joy it brings me with others and pass down what I have learned over the years. I have completed courses in music pedagogy and education alongside my degree, and believe in shaping my lessons around each individual's learning style so that each student may continue to grow while having fun. Helping each student develop their own unique musical identity is one of the main goals with these lessons.

Andy is a positive, knowledgable teacher and coach for anyone having/wanting to work in front of an audience or meeting, having to memorize text, analyze lines, sentences, plots and sell a story. Sessions search for paths to confidence as well as competence. A performer, director and teacher for over 30 years, I've studied teachers and students to learn that whatever frees a person to be comfortable with a task, and with the effort to develop skills, is a wonderful 'method'. We'd use movement, what-ifs, and references to life and death! And humor. Clients include a featured Narrator for SFGMC's winter show, an actor needing a monologue coach for her move to L.A., peninsula teens auditioning for their school musicals, and Bay Area youth and senior theater companies, and local community and professional performers. I taught high school dram

I have been extremely passionate about teaching Acting and Spanish for over 10 years (and have been an English as a Second Language student for 30!!) I am a native of Mexico City but made Chicago my home three years ago when I decided to continue my acting career in such a lovely city.

(Acting bio above)

Spanish: I started teaching Spanish while I was doing my degree at the University of Exeter in the UK. I helped some of my actor colleagues learn the basics of Spanish and when I moved back to Mexico I decided to professionalize my teaching and took an intensive course focused on teaching Spanish to beginners. During that course I fall in love with my native language and decided to take another intensive course this time focused on Advance Spanish. During that course I learned beautiful nuances and details about this amazing langu
age.
Since I have an artistic background, I try to create multidisciplinary classes so that my students can learn Spanish mainly through the arts and not through condensed and heavy books (though they are part of my teaching since I believe theory is of extreme importance in any field of study).

As a bilingual person, I've learned that language is the door to other cultures. Many times we are attracted to a language because we love a country that speaks it, songs we like to sing and dance to, tasty gastronomy, our parents, friends, among many more things. It is language who help us relate to others, understand their ways of thinking, their traditions, their jokes or their feelings.

This is why I strongly believe that finding the essence of why we want to learn a language is so important. It doesn't matter if you are a kid, a teenager or an adult, if you learn a language through the things you are personally interested and passionate about, learning will never feel like an obligation and will always feel like a fun game!
