Dan is awesome to work with. I've had five 30 minute sessions so far, and now have switched to 60 minutes - I've even paid in advance for 20 lessons because I know I'll be continuing with him long term. Love that he's very detail oriented and corrects me when I sign less than perfect.

I've been teaching American Sign Language for 5 years, and signing myself for 18 years, and my students have gone on to develop a love for ASL, Deaf people, and Deaf culture. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to carry on a simple conversation in the language, and as time goes on you'll be able to feel totally at ease with Deaf people. I have great online tools you can use for free to practice between lessons, and I'm flexible with any other resources we use. I can't wait to meet you!

About Carla
I have been signing since 1998, spending every chance I can among my Deaf friends and immersing myself in the language as often as possible. I received my BA in Music with a certification to teach at Lubbock Christian University in 1998. Later I attended the Interpreter Certification program at Burlington County College in New Jersey from 2009-2011, and during that time took a summer course at Gallaudet University for the Deaf in Washington DC. Then in 2014 I received my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with Instructional Technology from Houston Baptist University. I have been teaching ASL at the high school level since 2011. I am also one of the interpreters for the Deaf at my church in Fort Bend County, TX, outside of Houston, where I am a member and actively involved in the Deaf Ministry.

Please feel free to ask me any questions y
ou have. I'm happy to get back with you, and I look forward to teaching you!

I have enjoyed my lessons with Carla. What makes her a great teacher is her passion for what she does and her caring attitude. She goes the extra mile to make her students feel comfortable, successful, and remain motivated through their training. She is always motivating me to become the best version of myself- something I value immensely. She consistently helps me work around my concerns and find innovative solutions to help me excel. I am so glad I decided to work with Carla, I highly recommend her if you are looking for a compassionate and kind teacher, one who will push you in a positive way to learn and grow!

About Tony
Thank you so much for checking out my profile! My name is Tony and I've been teaching formal and private lessons since 1996 and have loved helping my students learn American Sign Language while developing confidence in their skills. I went to Harding University and was trained and tutored by a Master ASL Instructor (CODA) as well as the Deaf community.

My former students have gone on to become Interpreters for the Deaf, Deaf Education Teachers, ASL Teachers, and leaders in Deaf ministry. In fact, I now teach with one of my former ASL students!

I'm a patient and fun person and my teaching style is highly interactive. I look forward to helping you reach your goals!

Please keep in mind that it is very important to practice in between sessions and complete all the suggested activities to help you accomplish your goals faster. ASL
is a VISUAL language and does not follow English grammar rules. ASL has its own grammar and syntax. In fact 50% of the language is comprised of nonmanual behaviors.

My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know my students. Every once in a while I will have a student that wants to be mentored beyond ASL skills and wants further mentoring in learning how to be the best they can be.

I enjoy teaching the Bible class for the Deaf at church as well as being involved in the Deaf community in this area. The Deaf community is a wonderful, vibrant, and very close knit group of people.

Thanks again for reading my bio. I hope to meet you soon!

Very clear to understand, patient, encourages me to try instead of doing things for me. I'm walking away from my first lesson much further along than I would have expected and feeling very positive about the experience. Thanks, Tony!

I received my Seal of Biliteracy in ASL from Carlsbad High School, earning an A grade each year. I took ASL for four years in high school. I still continue classes outside my regular college curriculum. American Sign Language was such a fun subject for me because I got to learn about Deaf culture and communicate with others.

About Ariana
Hi! My name is Ariana. I am an 18-year-old sophomore at the University of California, Merced studying Applied Mathematical Sciences and Economics. I first started tutoring at the age of 14. From there I decided that math was something I loved so much that I wanted to pursue a career in it. No matter what level you are at right now, I would love to be a part of your academic journey, whether it be wanting to do math full time, or just a class to get out of the way in order to pursue something you love. I look forward to meeting you!

This was an excellent first lesson, I learned the alphabet and a few simple phrases and a brief history.

Ariana texted me the alphabet of symbols to practice from for later. I think doing the symbols live was really helpful it's the best way to learn for me at least. :)
