Hi, I am excited to share the beautiful language of ASL with you!
I have experience teaching for over a year. As well as teaching friends and family in an unofficial setting even longer! I love to work with children, or adult beginners.
I believe learning should be fun! With game-style lessons for children, they'll enjoy learning!
I also encourage constant practice, even if it's just in the mirror. I will include homework, in the form of videos of any new vocab. (That way you never have a problem forgetting what you were supposed to practice!)
I love ASL and can't wait to help you learn to love it too!

About Lucy

Hi y'all! I'm so excited to teach you something I love and has changed my life for the better! I am an enthusiastic people person and I am a teacher at heart. I truly enjoy teaching children! And have loved teaching and working with children for over a year, with ages ranging from infant care to

I learned ASL from the Deaf Community over 35 years ago so, I understand the cultural aspects of the language in addition to its linguistics. I received my AAS through an interpreter training program in 2010. Since 1998, I have been both an Educational and a Medical Interpreter through various agencies in my area. I am state certified and hold EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) credentials as well.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my first lesson with Ava. We covered a lot of signs in this lesson. The pace was just right, not too fast or too slow. I took an ASL course years ago, but besides teaching baby signs to some of my speech therapy clients, I haven't used my ASL since.
Thanks Ava!"

What are the Different Types of Sign Languages?

Many people are surprised or even shocked to learn that American Sign Language is not universal. However, when you think about how many spoken languages there are across the globe, it makes sense that sign language would be the same. After all, American Sign language is its own language with its own grammar, idioms, and everything else needed to be a language completely separate from English. Different types of sign language are developed in different regions around the globe, just like spok …

How to Teach Deaf Children to Read

Hearing Loss According to the CDC, at least one in 1,000 babies are born with a hearing loss. Historically, a hearing loss could go overlooked in a baby for months and even years, but fortunately, at present approximately 98% of infants are screened for a hearing loss. Identifying a hearing loss in infants is critical, because the first three years of life are crucial for speech and language development and it’s important for all children to have linguistic input from birth. What is Black ASL?

Most people living in the United States are likely familiar with American Sign Language (ASL); even if they don’t know any signs, they know it exists. Even less people realize that ASL is not universal, but unique to the US and parts of Canada. Therefore, it’s probable that very few people living in the US realize that ASL has variations. Just as with spoken languages, which have various dialects and accents, there are also variations within ASL, and age, race, location, socio-economic c …
